I watched that event live this weekend. This was the most bullshit moment I had ever seen in MLG since I started watching tournaments in 07'. They would have at least gotten 2nd or 3rd if the 360 didn't freeze. What was even worse was that Hysteria was host. If Hysteria hadn't been host, then he would have left like in a Matchmaking game not affecting anything and TD still winning because MLG's rules clearly state that if a player leaves or is not at the station during the game, the match must go on. TOTAL BULLSHIT!

(p.s. TD is going to be mad at the first event...you can bet they will not go without a win :D)

Well, people have died as a result of games. Whether or not it has been homicide is a different story.

And at that moment, when their chances of victory and fame were bedashed by a small hardware malfunction, the members of Triggers Down realized just how pathetic their career truly was.

I'm sorry I just can't have sympathy for an MLG team. I have a strong hate towards competitive gaming.
So playing a game online is stupid? Considering how any game that pits you against someone else is competitive, you must surely hate most online games.
OT: Well that sucks. Not much they can do. They should of let Triggers Down win, though.
Perhaps competitive is the wrong word. I guess what I am talking about is professional gaming, or something like that. Basically anything involving leagues like the MLG.
Don't bash it 'till you try it. Everyone wants to be good at something. This is no sillier then people who make a living off of comedy.

In my opinion turning gaming into a sport is silly.
I take it you haven't heard of NASCAR, then?
lol my thoughts exactly, im sure it is all fine and good to do it, but wow..just wow..your watching a car go around in circles, with barely any changes, doing the same thing over and over and over...where is the fun in that?

OT: i feel bad, that sucks, and i've had shit like this happen and in the replay we were a little demoralized just because and ended up barely losing which was utter b.s...

Is it wrong that my initial reaction was to smile and giggle a bit? Not their losing, because I'm sure that stung a lot. It was the crowd reaction. The silence that followed the announcer saying his button wasn't working, coupled with the rising uproar when the host shit itself was magical.

True that. Maybe if they were playing a sport and one of the end-zones blew up I'd be sympathetic, but this is video games people!
Because earning money doing what you love is a completely stupid thing to do and nobody should take anything like that seriously.

That's why people play soccer, football, baseball, chess, bassfishing, lugging, poker, blackjack, and curling all for fun.........rrrrrriiiiiiiiiiiiiggggggghtttttt?

Really, I don't see a reason why video games can't be considered a "sport". My opinion is that if you can make money off of doing something you love, more power to you, I'm quite envious. Regardless of what you think of their "wasted lives", they're doing what they love and getting paid for it to boot. You'd love to get paid just to play games, wouldn't you?

(Of course it's more complicated then just "playing video games", practice for hours on end, eye strain, physically/mentally exhaustion with non-stop playing, the like.)

MLG isn't really that much different than online competitive gaming, something that I'm sure both of you are familiar with. The only difference is, they get paid to do it. You don't

OT: I find that hilarious though :D

Oh Xbox 360, will you ever stop failing to meet my lowest expectation for a console? I expect anything I spend hundreds of dollars on not to break down until the next console generation but you always manage to make rock bottom look like the highest standard. BRAVO, 360, BRAVO!

I've seen this happen on the PS3 version of MewTwo, when the host console crashes. You can tell that it's not a connection issue because there wasn't any "rubber banding" before hand.

I don't own a 360, so how often does that happen? I've had that happen with my PS3 once when I took it to my father's and left it running on top of the thick carpet. Damn thing got so hot that it crashed. Since then, I've made it an effort to keep it adequately ventilated. Sometimes people forget that new-gen consoles are like mini PCs, and that they require the same amount of care and maintenance.

Now I wonder: is there a rule if your 360 RROD's during a match?

I personally hate MLG, other leagues are far better. I like the TF2 tournaments hosted by ESEA and CEVO. They have rules that makes sense, and also server scripts that can pause a match in event of a dropped player.

I can't stand Halo any more, used to love it but after playing a lot of other shooters. You just move so slow compared Unreal Tournament and Quake.

really?

oh, wait, you mean like that kid whom got murdered while playing ride.

i don't count incidents like that because its not related to the game, its as dangerous as keeping the remote from another guy in room.
not a sport, but may end in death.

I don't find a problem with them being paid to play video games, I have a problem with the stigma surrounding competitive gaming.

Most professional gamers I know are complete pricks about what they do, and to add another cherry on top, they're sore losers.

I'm all for odd things being considered sports, hell I still consider Marching Band a sport since I was an ex-marcher.

That has got to be embarissing. I got good money that after the rematch at least one member of triggers Down ran into the nearest restroom and either cried or yelled profainty at the top of his lungs.
they are playing Halo 3 on the Xbox 360, it does not need to be MLG for someone to cry or yell profanity.

If I was Heinz I would have been popping off and losing my shit like Brock Lesnar right there on camera. I wouldn't give a fuck, I can't handle myself appropriately when that kind of shit happens. And if a potential championship hat-trick was on the line? FFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK.
I probably would have killed somebody!

Now what I really want to know is how often this happens on the PC.
Chances are at a PC-based competition the server would be stripped down to its bare basics, running the Linux build of the game if available, with a liquid-cooled properly clocked processor and multiple gigs of properly timed ram. A.K.A. none of this parallel hosting bullshit. I can't believe competitive console gamers still put up with this shit, there really isn't any reason why a competition at this level should still take place on the same technology that pot heads use in their living rooms.
