So after more than 5 years, MLG STILL does Halo 3? They should just rename it Major League Halo, that is all I've ever seen them play (only watched a few bits).

The fact he was playing "professionally", the fact he was playing Halo 3, and, most importantly, the fact he was doing that horrible jump/drop flag/pick up flag/jump thing makes that one of the funniest things I have ever seen. Glad for him.

Now what I really want to know is how often this happens on the PC.
It's Halo 3, so... never?

Yeah, PC's NEVER crash, freeze, or have any technical problems EVEEEEEEER *rolls eyes*

Anyway, I can't stand pro gaming. All it is is a bunch of glorified cheap online tactics like the flag throwing and spawn camping Halo "pros" always do.
They are a hell of a lot more reliable than most consoles. My laptop has yet to freeze in it's lifetime, and it's been on for at least 14 hours a day for a long while... And pro gaming would be fun, but not Halo.
On topic: That's just crap. If they're without a doubt going to win, it shouldn't matter.

Yeah. Pro gamers drive me nuts mainly because they abide by these stupid "rules" that bascially means you're not allowed to use like half the content.

But also this made me laugh because I hate the MLG in particular.

True that. Maybe if they were playing a sport and one of the end-zones blew up I'd be sympathetic, but this is video games people!
Because earning money doing what you love is a completely stupid thing to do and nobody should take anything like that seriously.

That's why people play soccer, football, baseball, chess, bassfishing, lugging, poker, blackjack, and curling all for fun.........rrrrrriiiiiiiiiiiiiggggggghtttttt?

Really, I don't see a reason why video games can't be considered a "sport". My opinion is that if you can make money off of doing something you love, more power to you, I'm quite envious. Regardless of what you think of their "wasted lives", they're doing what they love and getting paid for it to boot. You'd love to get paid just to play games, wouldn't you?

(Of course it's more complicated then just "playing video games", practice for hours on end, eye strain, physically/mentally exhaustion with non-stop playing, the like.)

MLG isn't really that much different than online competitive gaming, something that I'm sure both of you are familiar with. The only difference is, they get paid to do it. You don't

OT: I find that hilarious though :D
I don't find a problem with them being paid to play video games, I have a problem with the stigma surrounding competitive gaming.

Most professional gamers I know are complete pricks about what they do, and to add another cherry on top, they're sore losers.

I'm all for odd things being considered sports, hell I still consider Marching Band a sport since I was an ex-marcher.
That's odd. I lot of the pro gamers I've known are pretty easy going. I guess there are all kinds.

In my opinion turning gaming into a sport is silly.
I take it you haven't heard of NASCAR, then?
I have, I just don't get why it is a sport listed as a sport either. I thought a sport was anything that is considered physically exhausting.

Gaming and NASCAR do not seem that physically exhausting. Mentally exhausting yes but not physically exhausting. I mean gaming competitions and things are great but I don't see why there is a need for a MLG type of thing.

Plus, since gaming is a sport they need to make chess a sport as well. I mean televise it.

It's an Olympic sport, or at least recognized as one. It's also televised. However, to be fair to chess, it requires much more skill than NASCAR or gaming.

See its elitist (and trolling) PC gamers like you that irritate me that makes me not want to get into PC gaming more. You guys just ruin the entire gaming experience for me with this attitude.

anyways OT: MLG's rule set needs serious refining. I had a friend in it for a while and his team was disqualified in a match because one of their teammates got disconnected and tried to reconnect.

Cool, I never knew it was an Olympic sport. Thanks for letting me know. Is it Winter or Summer Olympics that Chess is played?

Fuck if I know. I do catch a gaming channel on my satelite, but as far as chess goes, I wouldn't care really.

Spoken like someone who has never played at a high level of competition. A game where the players are all highly skilled and have solid team chemistry, strategic planning and coordination is so far removed from anything you have ever experienced that you could almost call it a different game. Sometimes the content that works for an uncoordinated public game with unskilled players will break down and become unbalanced and/or unfun when being played under these conditions. Removing this content from organized competitive play results in a better experience for the players and spectators. It's not that much different from how you will play a pickup game of a real life sport under different rules than the professional version of that sport.

As for all the folks complaining about the "cheap" tactics that pro players use... What exactly makes one tactic "cheap" yet another tactic legitimate? Both tactics stem from some combination of controller inputs made by the player, what makes one sequence of button presses any different from any other sequence of buttons? Yet you label one of them "cheap." The day you realize that it's all part of the game and you should just learn to beat it instead of bitching about it is the day you will instantly become a much better gamer.

As for all the folks who seem to think that gaming isn't a legitimate form of competition... What exactly makes it different from any other type of competition? The fact that physical strength isn't a factor? Oops, that would mean chess isn't a legitimate game. The fact that most people just play video games for fun? Oops, there are far, FAR more recreational basketball players than professional players. So what's the distinction? I honestly think that it's really that video games don't segregate players of differing skill levels as well as most other forms of competition, so people get their asses kicked by pros in public servers and come here to cry about it.
