This is why I only play PS2 games online. When's the last time a PS2 froze?
Oh lord. Dont get me started on PS2s freezing. It wasnt just mine either.
Please, do tell.
Ok.

PS2s tend to freeze a lot, at least the slimline does.

Now you know.
good to know. I've still got my original black brick hooked up, and it works as well as ever.

Why would they not just call the game in Trigger Downs favor? If they were so close to winning, why not?

According to MLG rules, when there is a hardware failure of any kind, the entire round is eligible for a replay.
Notice that? It means it doesn't have to be replayed. It means it could be chosen to be replayed. So they could have said Trigger Down won, and it would have been fine. Although I'm betting classic saw this as another opportunity to win.

I think it was BS to replay the match.

That sucks. Hard.

I don't think I even have the words available to describe how much that sucks. Except that it sucks.

I'm sorry, I'm too busy pointing and laughing.

Oooh, professional gamers. Well aren't you just God's gift to...something.
Don't worry, I'm sure these guys

are just cowering from that brutal attack.

Huh? What was that? 25k EACH? Who am I kidding, they're laughing all the way to the bank.

Maybe not gods gift, but a damn sight more fun than a 9-5...

isn't this a good case for dedicated servers?

still... to know that you SHOULD have advanced and would have if not for hardware failure has to hurt a little.
If TD were really better than their opposition, they would have also won the rematch. I think that while the match SHOULD have been awarded to them, don't act like the other team didn't also deserve to advance, because they did also play a game and win it.

Cool, I never knew it was an Olympic sport. Thanks for letting me know. Is it Winter or Summer Olympics that Chess is played?
It isn't in the games, it's just recognized as a sport by the committee (IIRC).

I watched that event live this weekend. This was the most bullshit moment I had ever seen in MLG since I started watching tournaments in 07'. They would have at least gotten 2nd or 3rd if the 360 didn't freeze. What was even worse was that Hysteria was host. If Hysteria hadn't been host, then he would have left like in a Matchmaking game not affecting anything and TD still winning because MLG's rules clearly state that if a player leaves or is not at the station during the game, the match must go on. TOTAL BULLSHIT!

(p.s. TD is going to be mad at the first event...you can bet they will not go without a win :D)
I take it there was nothing on TV at the time... and you were snowed in... alone.

In all fairness if you enjoy it thats fine. I've not watched someone else play since my arcade days.

As far as "pro" gaming. I don't think its a waste of time, anymore than martial arts, football etc. If you have fun doing it and it doesn't negatively impact on you life its fine.

Yes it is competition but it is definately not a sport. I have never met a pro gamer who I'd consider an athlete. I am in a clan and play clan matches but it doesn't make me a sportsman.
Actually I'm a rabid MLG fan, lol.

The simple fact that someone somewhere thinks these twits deserve 100K for their 'abilities' suggests to me that someone somewhere has too much fucking money.

That money could have gone towards feeding people or building houses, but instead it goes to a team of grease-faced little bastards for playing video games.

Dunno if you're familiar with this guy? His name is John Terry. He's a professional footballer, he captains a London based football team called Chelsea. This guy gets £130,000 for playing 90 minutes of football. If you're good at something and can get paid for doing it, why the hell not? That money will have come from sponsorship and entry fees, and you know damn well that it's not taking roofs from over peoples heads or food out of peoples mouths. It goes to a team of people who are talented in an area, more talented than anyone else in the competition.

That "It could be paying for food and shelter" thing is bollocks. Go to vegas, tell the people in the casinos to stop gambling and give whatever spare cash they have to charity. Because that's basically what these guys are doing. They put up a stake of cash to play in the tournament, then win big by playing well.

Really now, if you're going to use that pointless argument, every single sport out there is just fodder for sweat-ridden, booze binging, long-haired jock asshole to make money off of.

The simple fact that someone somewhere thinks these football "twits" deserve 100k for running around in tight pants and throwing a piece of pigskin thinking they have "abilities" suggests to me that people have too much money.

Don't bring the "THINK OF THE CHILDREN!" argument because frankly, the world doesn't work that way.

I've said it before, if you can make money off of doing something you love, more power to you. I'll assume you've played some competitive multiplayer, haven't you? Well, if you have, then this is no different except the fact that they're making money off of it.

This is why consoles suck, and "pro gaming" should be left 4 pc.
And consoles to be "Left4dead"?

EDIT: Why can't they play a professionally-balanced game?
NBA doesn't use concrete and a bleacher on the side, why are they using Halo 3? It may be fun, but unbalanced.

There's a huge difference between playing a sport and being able to push buttons quickly. The first is impressive, the other isn't. The first is worthy of respect, the other isn't.

Being able to play a video game does not make you anything special, and it never will. The simple fact that there are people who feel otherwise is both pathetic and laughable.
Not all sports are required to have physical exertion.

Case in point, chess, poker, blackjack, bass-fishing, pie eating contests etc... are all considered "sport", garnering much "respect" from their respective audiences.

Certain types of video games require different means of winning. Teamwork is required, quick reflexes can make or break a match, knowledge of your surroundings and your enemies is essential. You have to prioritize objectives, know how to use your abilities, work around enemy strategies to defeat them, develop counter-strategies to make a come-back in a bad game, etc...

Gee, sounds like any other damn sport, don't it? And that's only detailing FPSs, going to fighting games you have to know your characters strengths and weaknesses, know your enemies strength and weaknesses and exploit them to the best of your ability. In racing games, you need to know the track your driving and know how to handle your vehicle, making snap decisions that could end up making or breaking the race. In puzzle games, hell those speak for themselves.

These guys love playing video games. They're making money doing what they love to do. Props to them for achieving what everyone wants to do someday. You can't tell me that you've never wanted to be paid to "inspect breasts" or "try the poisonous rate of this delicious cake" or some stupid thing like that. If you can make money off of doing something you love, more power to you. That's better than what most people can say.
