Of course it was designed to sell more toys. The entire show is built around promoting said toys and merchandise. The good writing (allegedly, never saw it myself) is an afterthought compared to pumping out as many different designs that can be mass produced and shoved onto toy shelves.

Oh yes, it's no coincidence that this revelation happens at the same time that Hasbro announces a new line of toys based around it, there's no delusion there (except for the more naive fans). It still effects the story and whatnot-

(allegedly, never saw it myself)

I know hearing this at this point might be infuriating, but try it. Even if you hate it, just try it for one episode, and if you don't like it, it'll be perfectly fine. I won't annoy, but just once I say: try it.

Please?

I guess I wasn't clear. I've seen the show, I just never saw the quality of the writing being as good as you guys say. It's perfectly serviceable, just not to my tastes.

I just enjoy the DRAMA that pops up whenever something like this happens that sends fandoms into a fury.

Please, continue.

Count me in this club. I have no idea what is going on but it sure as hell seems entertaining. I do have a feeling that a brony friend of mine is going to bug me a lot more when I play Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess for some reason. I can't exactly nail down why though...

Fair enough. I'm not one of those bronies who feel they need to "convert" everyone else, because that's just stupid.

Also, yes, it is very funny when people get mad about this stuff.

I saw this on My Little Brony and came over here to see if anyone made a thread about it. Apparently yes. So, I wonder who this little baby princess is that has been showing up in stores?

I don't understand the rage behind this honestly. I know people say it will ruin her character and ruin the show, but I don't know how. I can't see her becoming something else personality-wise, and it's not like she's going to leave Ponyville. Okay, if that does happen, then I can understand. But I doubt that's going to happen. Maybe this will be like the Crystal Ponies episode, where they're all crystal for a bit, but then change back. We shall see.

...Wait, this is a big deal? I thought it was clear that Celestia was training her personally for a reason. I mean...why is this bad?

And is it me or is this thread 95% flame bait? Well, I guess the MLP fanbase has been sent to the "mock" category.

Well, if there is one thing My Little Pony does well, it's conjuring forth drama and anger for the rest of us to enjoy.

Well...this is kind of stupid. Though it does make a little bit of sense.

Celestia and Luna didn't always exist. Which means their has to be a method to create alicorns rather than them being born somehow. It makes Cadance's existence a lot more probable. Seeing how it goes from "there can only be two in existence" to "we can make more". Except that ends up making each one less special.

I see plenty of people raging over this due to...well...god, why is this happening? I mean, its a joke around the fandom that Twilight is such an OP mother Fucker that she might as well be an alicorn, but this is taking it a bit far. This also brings with it a series of unanswered questions.

1) If alicorns live for 1000's of years, and both Celestia and Luna still look to be in their prime, why do they need another one?

2) Candace looked like a teenage in flashbacks of the season 2 finally, but them looked like an adult. So how does the aging process work for these things?

3) If Celestia is Princess of the Sun, and Luna the moon, what is Twilight suppose to be in charge of? Candance is apparently princess of the Crystal kingdom. But then...

4) What was Candace's purpose before the Crystal empire came back? Was it destined to happened?

5) If Luna was going to be gone for 1000 years, why didn't Celestia train a unicorn to take her place in all that time?

6) If random people can be part of the royal family, are Celestia and Luna even really related.

7) Why the fuck is blueblood a unicorn and not an alicorn? Does Celestia have family members decended from before she became an alicorn?

8) Why is Candace the only Alicorn not associated with a force of nature?

I could go on, but the point remains...

This seems like a bad idea. With RD getting close to being a wonderbolt, and Rarity having business in Canterlot, this seems like the big thing that's going to separate the group.

Before I start, I just have to ask that somebody explain to me what Derpygate is.
Anyway.
I don't think it's going to stick. She gave up her gala tickets for her friends, she's not going to ascend to a throne if she can't take them with her.
And as for the swirling storm of fanboy hate, it'll cool down soon, hopefully. We just have to make it through the backlash then everybody will relax.

My Twilight? Becoming all-powerful?

I'm not exactly against that. Show everyone who the best pony is.

To reply to your third question: Her name is TWILIGHT(not yelling, just need to emphasize that)sparkle, as in the time between night and day. The sacred time of azura(for all you elder scrolls fans). I assume she would rule over that specifically.

As for how this will have an effect on the show? Well as long as twilight stays the same personality wise, I dont see a problem really. If anything, there will be more interesting episodes about the upper crust of pony society, and the extra responsibilities twilight will gain as a result of her new found powers.

I will sit back and judge the episode and the ones after for myself when they come. As for now, I will laugh at all the bronies losing their shit, and remain hopeful that the writers do a good job(as they do more often than not).

As for people claiming the thread was flame bait? I don't think it is. The OP showed a pretty neutral stance on the whole "alicorn twilight" debacle, and asked for opinions, rather than asserting his own on others and claiming "EVERYTHING IS RUINED" like some of the minor parts of the fandom.

Derpygate was when the original voice for derpy(in the episode "the last roundup") was replaced with a different, "non silly" version because apparently some people complained that it was making fun of the mentally ill. Some bronies lost their shit.

Personally I am worried. It could be fine, or not. It really depends on how it is handled.

What bothers me the most about it though is how it could "split" the series. You have the first 3 seasons, which could really be watched in any order, and then Season 4 and beyond. I almost feel as if they should give Season 4+ a seperate tagline as a result.

I really can't say anything else until I see the episode. We will see what happens.

To be fair, I lost it a little bit too.

on that last line of yours, it sorta could what the series finale is setting up to be were the character move to different location because of new opportunities or responsibilities, but they still stay friends and keep in touch.

I say that would be a perfect way to end the series if thats what there building up too.

As for Twilight becoming a alicorn, well I say its not the change but what they do with the character afterwards that important, if she stays the twilight we all know and love then its fine, if she does change than its bad.

Also she looks freaking adorable, as always, Though if they don't make a joke of her crashing, or if she doesn't crash at least a few times, they missed a good opportunity for laughs.

Though if the fandom does freak right the hell out, it be another reason why fandoms should be hear of but not listen to much, unless they do a fair and construction criticism.

Captcha: What is your Quest, fair question, to maybe see some order to the internet, or maybe change some minds at least, but to become a movie director is my quest!

My understanding is that parents protested Derpy Hooves' first speaking appearance:

as they thought it was making fun of mentally retarded and down syndrome kids. This, of course, wasn't the case, the big problem was that the V.A. for Derpy thought that she was voicing a male character. This gave off a stereotypical "downsie" voice, which just didn't help the situation.

So, Hasbro changed the voice in some cuts, and outright removed the scene in others. Derpy, meanwhile, was NEVER SEEN OR HEARD FROM AGAIN...

(oOooo)

...except pretty far into the background.

People still make a big deal about it, and want to bring Derpy back as a speaking character. It's probably not gonna happen, as Hasbro would rather avoid the parents' wrath than risk bad PR for a community joke.

EDIT: SHET. Response-ninja'd.

Apparently. I think adding the suffix "gate" is a 4chan thing. At any rate, I was a bit saddened, but not really freaking out. I just hope that one day they might give the character the chance in the limelight one more time.

Everyone's staying together. Maybe if this was the Wire, they'd consider ending everything here, but as a successful children's franchise that rakes in dough from both parents and grown men as long as it stays on air? Hasbro wouldn't consider it for a second.
