So true. I have actually done this, in that order.

Although you forgot mythering parents on that list too.

Recently ive gone back to MW2 (after putting my foot through a door after trying PvP on ST:O - Which is the most broken unbalanced experience ive ever had the misfortune of playing), and ive come up against a whole new problem. I was a rank 54, no prestige, And it was matching me with virg...Sorry, "Hardcore Gamers" - Im a better gamer than your average guy, but against people that havent seen sunlight since the games release, I dont stand a chance.

Im 4,000,000 ish, in the rankings, SURELY[/I] there must be people around my level to game with?!?
I'm level 54 too, no prestige, but in the 5 mil rankings. That's probably because I'm a challenge whore and exp points don't count as score or you're on a different system than me. But I'm pretty decent considering 95% of the time I at least get one or two more kill than deaths in Team death match and I have about 3 to 4 times as many wins than loses in domination. My only complaints about this game is how the higher kill streaks, 8 and up, are unreasonable because most of the people than get them are campers. That and who dual wields shotguns? None of the shotguns should have that option.

Of all the things you mentioned the kill lag is by far the biggest problem I had with the game.

If I had a nickle for everytime a kill cam showed me not firing one shot...

It's all true, right down to the letter. Not to mention the boosters and no scopers...

Pretty much every issue is down to other players being dicks.

Yes, there are balance issues that need a good old fashioned nerfing but that doesn't mean you have to be cheap and exploit them. I myself COULD use Akimbo 1887's (well not at the moment because I prestiged and am only level 40 something), OMA + noob tubes, no scope people with an Intervention and the silenced TAR-21 without that damage penalty that every other gun gets but I CHOOSE not to. Being cheap doesn't equate to fun for me and I will actively set those types of players to 'Avoid' on XBL when I see them doing it.

As for being punished by head chicken team mates and pure bad luck, I only play with a party of chums these days and we're at least using some pseudo-teamwork and planning.

Even though you end up raging you just can't stop playing, why oh why is this.
fucking true to the max

fortunately, i saw the light, and basically had a spiderman moment where i tore off the venom (a.k.a. mw2) suit and sold that shit immediately, i have been rage free for a month and a half now =]

Really? I always seem to take longer to kill people when I have a silencer on it. It feels a bit weaker, especially at range.

I have noticed though that it reduces the recoil a little.

I love the TAR 21, it's awesome and looks so badass with the urban camo.

Very well put. Especially point 2 is the reason I stopped playing MW2 long ago. People are cheap and camp enough as it is, but in this game it's almost impossible to win without lowering yourself to that level.

Ha, ha, ha. Give it a try, and watch your K/D plummet.

You know what pisses me off? Every decent game I join lags out. And what is up with all the hate for quickscopers? Oh noes someone plays the game in a way that requires skill! What a prick.

Free Steam weekend has allowed me to see firsthand the failure that is MW2. I was just running from one end of the map and then back, and then repeating... Occasionally killing snipers or getting killed by random helicopter, missile, shotgun across the map, or even a damn plane once. One time, the game ended because someone nuked it? Are you kidding..? Are they even trying to make this a bit believable? For me, this game just comes across as Halo with normal guns.

I find it humerous that MW2 was one of the most hyped releases in history, and it sold millions of copies - in the first week or so. After people actually played it, it kinda fell from grace. I actually went several months without hearing it even so much as mentioned at LAN parties, withing my group of gamer friends, and it is even filling up the shelves at my local Best Buy. People know better than to buy it by now.

My fear (as has been stated by several posters above) is that it will become a template for the future of FPS games. If that were to happen, my favorite genre would cease to be enjoyable.

I mean come on! Who doesn't like to pay $60+ for a game with a 10 hour campaign (maybe) and multiplayer that dies within the first few weeks of release - or at least doesn't allow for modding, dedicated servers, or any real amount of customization.

I am also NOT a fan of the 'perk' system, and I am really against the whole 'skill leveling' BS.

There are a LOT of reasons why I was unhappy with MW2 and never bought it. I played it at a friend's house, beat it, and walked away without any real feeling of accomplishment. While it built itself up to a high-adrenaline cresendo at the very end, it was just over so quickly, and it all seemed so linear poorly strung together.

The MP was also disappointing for me. I got screamed at constantly for the simple act of using a shotgun. Since when does a shotgun make me worthy only of swine and the object of ridicule? I happen to like shotguns thank you very much! At any rate... I found my way onto some very unfriendly servers and quite frankly, found the MP to be a little less than average compared to some other games I have played in the same genre.

To make my long story even longer, I agree with this post!

I am going to go back to playing ArmA2, BF2, BF2142, and... Well... Anything else.

Hahaha, very well put. I know all those frustrations too well. There's a video from a rather well-known MW2 player out there right now (MuzzaFuzza) declaring something similar to this; people have picked out all the weaknesses & imbalances and the game is horribly frustrating. He summed it up pretty well too:

"No matter how good you are, even if you're the best player in the world, you can't dodge that Predator Missile."

I'd like to throw one more beef onto the pile there: weapon balance. There are a handful of weapons that just flat-out dominate this game, and everything else is there for... I don't know, dick waggling about number of guns "available".The entire weapon category known as LMG's are pretty damn rare and I've never seen any sick videos posted with one. For some numerical backup, I'll pull out two weapons from the polar opposite of the balance:

UMP45:
- Unlocked at level: 4 (when you can make your own classes), is available on a default class.
- Spawn with 96 rounds by default in 32 round mags.
- Move at 100% speed.
- Very accurate, little recoil.
- ~600 rounds per minute permits both accurate single/double shots, or good spray.
- Reload times: 2.5s, 3.2s empty
- Damage: 40, drops to 35 outside of close range. Silencer increases dropoff. 3 shot kill any range, anywhere. 2-shot with Stopping Power at close range.

F2000:
- Unlocked at level 60.
- Carry 90 rounds in 30 round mags.
- Move at 95% speed. Slightly slower than SMG's or snipers.
- Inaccurate for automatic fire.
- >900 rounds per minute chews ammo quickly, makes it harder to fire single rounds.
- Reloads in 3.0 or 3.7 empty.
- Damage: 30 up close, drops to 20. That means 4 to 5 shot kills. Needs Stopping Power to get a 3 shot close range kill.

So, the UMP can be had from level 1, carries slightly more ammo which takes longer to use up, does more damage per round, is easier to hit someone with, kills targets faster, reloads faster, and lets a player move faster. This gives the "cool in real life" F2000 exactly zero
reason to be used other than novelty.

Pretty much every one of the most used guns in the game can kill a player in 100ms or less. Given that that's an acceptable ping time for most games (and it's what you'll be dealing with for sure), you'll usually die before you have any chance to fight back.

EDIT: Data pulled from here: http://denkirson.xanga.com/715966769/modern-warfare-2/
he mines a lot of big-name games for data and posts it there. You can see the TAR-21 (and every other rifle/SMG) doesn't take a damage penalty at close range with a silencer. Only LMG's (poor things) and Sniper rifles get a straight-up cut.

I have to admit that I do love the TAR-21 with the same camo *swoon*

But yeah, try out the silenced vs non-silenced in a private game with a chum. It'll still drop someone in 2-3 shots with Stopping Power. It doesn't get penalised the same as the other high damage assault rifles do if it does at all. The AK 47 is just as lethal with a silencer too.
