Might as well be confirmed, the chances of the COD series skipping a yearly release are probably roughly on par with the chances of the U.S. being conquered by Switzerland this year

Activision is going to have them pump out another cod, and then fire the rest of the staff so that they can max out profits, and then use interns to make the map packs that they will charge the same price as a full game.

My money is on the announcement coming as a bit of a flop - especially if they add a controversial feature like monthly fees for multiplayer - and for the game itself to be massively outscaled and outdone by the hype for Skyrim.

It has to happen sometime, after all - you can't just keep milking a franchise forever; people will get bored, and tired of buying the same multiplayer year after year with a tacked-on five-hour interactive movie - and this is as good a year as any, especially with all the heavyweights on the table. Bioshock Infinite, Battlefield 3, Mass Effect 3, Skyrim, The Old Republic, Guild Wars 2, a possible GTA 5 - any of them could be, to my mind, at the same general "hype level" as Modern Warfare; and any of them, with the right kind of E3 showing, could steal the series' thunder.

Skyrim probably deserves the hype though

Why tease us with modern warfare 3 annoucement we all know it's coming out, I mean you don't EA announcing teasers for FIFA & Madden 2012 we just take as read that there coming out. I won't be buying this I haven't bough a COD since modern warfare and I have no intenrion of buying that game again for full price. Original ideas please Activision, what are you going to do when you've milked all your franchises and don't have any new IPs to replace them?

I don't see any reason to buy something that has basically no real plot, plays nearly exactly the same as COD4 and will be overpriced, including DLC, especially since BF3 will be released this year.

You know, EA gets enough shit for releasing roster updates, Activision is no releasing map updates...and slight improvements on their game. You could say "It's got a story to it!" but in reality, few people buy CoD for the campaign. Sure, people will PLAY the campaign, but they don't BUY the game for it...they buy it for the multiplayer...

Well, i've had enough of CoD, i made a mistake by purchasing those games instead of Battlefield.

This year i will repent by getting Battlefield 3, i've had enough of Call of Duty.

Why do people hate Modern Warfare so much here on The Escapist? I really think the MW games are amazing, both of them. The second one had INCREDIBLE music and so many dynamic/cinematic-like moments that blew my mind. And the sniper mission with MacMillan is when I became a fan of the (Modern Warfare) series.

Plus, it has possibly one of my favorite game soundtracks ever [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_GWnSj0gPWs&feature=related] (composed by the one and only - Hans Zimmer, alongside Lorne Balfe). Escaping from the favela while parkouring along rooftops and dodging bullets is twice as epic when Mr. Zimmer gets involved.

Is it really necessary for Modern Warfare 3 bring new gameplay? When I play Call Of Duty, I just want to shoot people and do some epic stuff along the way.

I'm sorry, I needed to let that out of me. I'm tired of people not giving it a chance. For me, it's one of the more impressive shooters on the market.

OT: This is very welcome news for me. I absolutely cannot wait.

That's exactly the same reaction I had! Also its on Ghost who I thought was an awesome character cause he was so mysterious and unknown like... a ghost. Also British. So by going in depth on the character who seemed badness feels like they are gonna strip him of that feeling. Plus I can't see a Modern Warfare game being good without Infinity Ward.

I'd be surprised if it didn't come out this year, it's a massive cash cow and i'd love to see the figures on how much the series has generated for Activision as a whole.

Though with Battlefield 3 coming out I doubt i'll buy COD as I've been dissapointed with the last two (3 if u count World at war which I didn't buy). Saying that, why did I even buy the last two if I knew beforehand I wouldn't particularly like them, I guess it's because everyone gets them and I like playing with my friends online and you know your friends with have COD.

I hope all my friends buy battlefield 3. I really do.
