if you mean blops, thats because it was a bad game. Between a dull campaign, those f-ing rc cars, and an online component that just broke randomly for many players. It wasnt exactly a triumph
No, I meant both -Modern Warfare- games.

oh well than your reading the forums wrong, the majority of the world loved (and still does) modern warfare, and with good reason, decent plot and multiplayer, a shake up of time period that the genre much needed. I personally consider it on of the top 5 shooters of all time (alongside gems such as timesplitters 2 css and tf2)
Well, I know that both Modern Warfare games received universal acclaim from many people. I love the forums here, but usually comments about CoD are calling it a "generic shooter". That is true, perhaps. But if so, it's a -good- generic shooter.

I mean, most comments on this thread say "Oh no, not another Modern Warfare." So I really started wondering why all the hate. Both MWs are great games I have thoroughly enjoyed.

Most likely all the hate as they aren't "intellectual", but also for the fact that since CoD makes money, people want to emulate it to the slightest detail, bogging down FPS's with "realistic war shooters". I realized while CoD has some flaws, you have to enjoy it for what is: A high octane action movie shooter. Nothing more, nothing less. I just hope they make non-broken multiplayer.

Thoughts so far:

A modern warfare game without the head guys at IW? Hmm, this might mean that the game won't suck. Might being the key word.

A prequel featuring ghost seems like a bad idea, we know he's gonna die, so wtf is the point?

Modern Warfare 3 is rumored to be a prequel [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/106669-Rumor-Infinity-Ward-Working-On-Modern-Warfare-Prequel] focusing on popular character Simon "Ghost" Riley
A prequel? Wait, what?!

But what about the whole Makarov thingy?! You can't just leave that behind and do something else!!

I sure, hope that rumour is false -_-
Knowing Black Ops "Historical accuracy" and Modern Warfares overall "realism" I predict it will be markovs great great great grandfather, fighting Napoleon in the First World War.
It will start with the Battle of the Somme, when the American Mech assault was stopped by the new Iranian Migs, move onto the fields at Paschendale, where you and an elite team of SAS destroy the enemys UAV drones supply deposit, Skip to the battle of Balaclava, and the charge of the light tank brigade, where you provide the covering fire from Apache attack helicopters as the Shermans charge Ghengis Khans' Russian Howitzers, and end in the battle of Waterloo, when the Americans led by Patton and armed only with their M16s and Native American Tomahawks (They replace the knives as the overpowered melee kill) fought of numerically greater and better armed foes. And it will be awesome.
...sod MW3 I want to play that game

Wait . . . there's actually people who've moved past CoD4 and WaW? Wut?!!

Oh, shit, I forgot . . . us PC crowd have been actively screwed with the last couple of installments, so we're potesting by continuing to play MW until someone decides to design an installment that's worth a rat's ass. Don't believe me, take a look at how pack the MW dedicated servers still are.

Looking more towards BF3 than another Activision sanctioned "mod" for an aging game engine.

I'm cautiously optimistic that this game will be better than Black Ops. Well, it damn well better be considering how AWFUL Black Ops is/was.

Dont care, As long as its going to be fun. Also this sounds like an amazing storyline. You should be writing.
Cod Games are about fun, not about historical accuracy. If I want accuracy Ill play arma 2 or Victoria 2 :)

I haven't even beaten Black Ops, nor have I really played much in the way of multiplayer. Welp, not getting MW3.

Battlefield 3 however seems very appealing.

I haven't actually played a MW game yet. WaW had already came out by the time I bought a 360, and it sounded like IW put lame attempt at shock value (which may or may not be correlated with the founders' subsequent departure) in a painfully short single player campaign in MW2.

All in all, I think I'll pass on this one too until after it's released and I hear some feedback. Battlefield 3 looks interesting though, and by then, I'll have a spanking new PC with enough balls to max everything.

I should not be excited about this announcement. But I am.
I should not buy the next Modern Warfare. But I will.
