All of The Path.
WHOA! Someone else played it!?

I found it tolerable as long as I wasn't running. Although I managed to get the full ending for Rose (the goth girl) and I've been unnerved by birdcages ever since.

Alot of old scare games in here. I'll add something new, that scared me.
Metro 2033 - Ghost tunnel. The ghosts of the tunnel were shadows, and you would illuminate them with your torch. They werent substantial at all like your normal ghosts, but were projected onto walls as psychic residues as the fellow says.

In Too Human, the game itself was too scary to play (I mean that it was to horrible and its badness was just spooky)

The part in doom 3 when you're walkin up to that door and then it opens up and a huge fleshy bloody monster jumps out. Bad-ass but scary as hell.

In Bioshock, near the beginning you find a female splicer hovering over a crib. Games usually don't scare me, but her monologue there sent chills down my spine.

Lots of Monolith Games here. They truely are the masters of Horror I guess.

OT: AVP2. Marine Campaign. So damn dark. Next thing you know an Alien jumps at you or the wall suddenly bursts gas.

Or most of FEAR.

Or Dunwich.

Friggin' Dunwich.
GODDAMN DUNWICH BUILDING. I was having such a nice time in the wastelands and then I stumble in there. :(

I put that game away for a long time after.

Oh, and that creepy german doctor/8 year old girl in the simulation.

Well I have this thing about big monsters eating people, it's unnerving to me. When I played super mario sunshine, there's this part where you have to clean this giant eel's teeth, and at the same time he's trying to eat poor little mario. They also hand wonky music playing. It was difficult for me to do that :\

Also, playing Doom 3, there's this part where a door opens really damn fast, and what looks like a big demon mouth is behind it and a hand reaches out for a few seconds. I was not expecting it at all and it scared the shit out of me.

Some parts of S.T.A.L.K.E.R SoC were pretty freaky, going into some of those underground labs, (the one in the Dark Valley over all I think,) especialy because after you'd wasted all your ammo on Poltergeists and those pouncy bastards you have to fight through a group of Spetznas and THEN escape their cordon.

But what I thought was a classy bit of horror direction was in, of all things, F.E.A.R, (acronyms eh,) Extraction Point. I was heading down yet another corridor towards a door. Suddenly the corridor elongated - the door got further away. Thinking it was a little odd I kept walking towards it. When I got to it and tried to open it I found out it was locked. Frustrated, I turned around - only to find a completely different corridor to the one I had just walked down. This led to one of the F.E.A.R "scary sections" which wasn't memorable but I think the lead-up to it was particularly well done.

I never understood why the 'scissors, 61' thing was scary. Was it because it was seriously out of character?

The most recent example is the opening hour or so of Dead Space - it balances the suspense and the actual shocks really rather well.

...and then you figure out that the enemies are actually quite easy to kill, and the game becomes a shooter.

Oh man, that freaked me out. I'd been playing all night (all-in-one runthrough of MGS2), and was fairly young at the time. All of a sudden I start getting messages from the Colonel telling me to turn the console off, and spurting random crap (all with the skull face in the Codec). It almost made me switch the PS2 off, I thought I'd glitched the game by playing for so long.

this award goes to Kuon

I'm sorry but the early part where random trails of blood appear in rooms you only left seconds ago
those creepy twins running around singing
and let us not fail tomention the entire room where the first boss is.

see even though your char can actually run, doing so may put them in vertigo (which is almost 1 touch kill)

so either A) go slow and let the game dish all its scares on you
or B) stop and meditate frequently which black out the world around your char

"honestly though, you played the game a lot, don't you have anything better to do ?"
the colonel calls Raiden and says things like that... while he's running NAKED.
also "fission mailed"
and Revolver Ocelot's "There's nothing like the feeling of slamming a long silver bullet into a well greased chamber..."

For me most of F.E.A.R 1 and persus mandate esspecially the part where you have the hullociation(sorry for bad spelling) of alma changing from here child self to here adult self and then doing the whole grudge style sidewards crab walk thing towards you in the blood satined hospital. The Makers of the orginal F.E.A.R really know how to screw with peoples mind. Hopefully the upcoming F.E.A.R 3 will maintain this have the air of the original.

There was one time when my friend and I were playing Halo 2 co-op on the level 'The Arbiter'... and we had a chat and all our AI team members gathered around and my friend jokingly shouted:
"Fuck off!"

And what do they do? They move away, the very second he said it.... like they could HEAR US!
