Well, if there is any good criticism of Obama, i havent heard it. So far its been for him being kind to the rest of the world (interperated as being weak) and being too calm (same thing) God forbid people start to like America and we dont have a hot head leader.

As for gay marriage and the like, Adam and Eve, and next people will wanna marry their dog and lamp is just dumb. I could argue stupid like that too against not letting gays marry. "Lets not let gays, then blacks, then next we shouldnt let anyone marry anyone who isnt themselves, cept you cant anyway since that would be...gay"
Well, about Obama, he refused help from 13 different countries in the first week of the oil spill disaster, and refused help with this oil spill until it was a complete, utter disaster, about 5 weeks in. All he did beforehand was try to figure out who to blame for it until he started taking flack from everyone for taking multiple golfing outings, except Gibbs says you can't call it "playing golf," you have to say he's "clearing his mind." He consistently says he's "not going to rest until...." but he golfs multiple times a month, takes a 4 day vacation to Las Vegas, and multiple trips each month. Now, I would normally let that pass, but Bush was raked across the coals when he went golfing once after the War in Iraq started, and after that, he never went golfing as president.

Obama's inexperience is really starting to show. He is a fantastic campaigner, but when he starts campaigning against an oil spill because that's all he knows how to do, it looks really bad.

I don't completely understand what you meant by your gay marriage argument, but I'll tell you mine. Mine is 2 fold. First the nit-picky one: "Marriage" is a distinct concept with a distinct definition. Language is built upon clear distinct definitions, and changing them willy-nilly because you want to leads inevitably to the destruction of language itself. When words can mean whatever you want them to mean, they mean nothing. Make up a new word, call it "civil union," whatever, but don't call it "Marriage" because it isn't.

Secondly, I point to an uncommon source: Friedrich Nietchze and his "will to power" concept. He argued that Christianity, in 19th century Germany was unhealthy for society because it depreciated the growth of society, and damaged the will to continue growing into the next generation. This ties in to homosexual relationships in the modern age.

Homosexual relationships do not produce offspring without heterosexual input. Therefore, assuming monogamous relationships, as the ratio of homosexual to heterosexual relationships within society increases, the ability of the society to grow decreases.

If a society cannot maintain a 1.2% growth rate, they decline and within a few generations suffer from complete societal collapse due to not having a large enough young, productive, youthful population to sustain the old, and continue to the next generation. It's all in the numbers. "Gay Marriage" then becomes damaging to the growth of a society, and therefore is damaging to the future of the society, and reduces the "will to power."
I dont know much about Obama to argue that. As for gay marriage, the first one is just being nit picky as you said, and that is not something we mind, we just want the legal rights invovled. As for the second, from what I hear, we have too many people anyways, and what of orphaned children? I doubt reducing the number of orphanced children through allowing gays to adopt would harm society. More likely it will produce more useful members of society than anything.
However my ultimate problem are the moral arguments against it.

When people confuse Pixar movies with kiddie movies.
That is a bad thing to do. Especially when your not prepared for the emotional assault some Pixar movies give.

Some rich asshole at my former high school once compared his house to Auschwitz because he had his iPod Touch confiscated by his parents for bad grades.

Our math teacher (who was a survivor of Auschwitz himself [he even had the tattoo on his arm]) completely lost it. I don't think I've ever heard a teacher yell that loud. Especially one that was 74.
Ugh, I hate people like that. Not your teacher, but rich assholes.

Reminds me when my 8th grade class went on a Holocaust field trip. We saw the videos and everything of people being abused, tortured, and starved. And when it was all over some girl said she can't wait to leave because she's "starving".

One of the teachers lost it. And went on about how good she has it, and about how she just saw what real starving is and whatnot.

Many people take such basic and pointless things for granted.
Ok while I agree that some people fail to understand or appreciate the suffering of others, I have to play devil's advocate for a second.

I find it kind of annoying when the suffering of others is shoved into people's faces to make them feel bad. Its not like it was her fault, or due to her negligance that the holocaust happened and that jews suffered. It seems the same to me as saying "don't complain about your food, there's starving people in China!"

Why are americans squishy and pampered? Because the United States is a prosperous nation with educated workers and a good infrastructure. Is it really that girl's fault that she doesn't understand the suffering? After all, she didn't choose to grow up in a healthy environment.

Sometimes I fear for our generation. Today I looked at a remote for the t.v sitting a couple feet from me and thought "too much trouble". So instead of switching to "The Daily Show" or something decent, I watched an entire episode of Dr. Phil. An hour of my life I will never get back....

OT: not trying to be flame bait here, but I freaking hate it when discussing religion, people talk as if Atheism is a religion.
*sigh*
The worst is when other Atheists do it.

For the record, that Gears of War trailer was freaking incredible. Say what you will about the game, but that trailer was more than worthy of the song.

Someone on here a while back explained why he finds anime disturbing by comparing its violence to Spongebob. I actually gave a really good argument on the subject, but the very comparison of the maturity and intelligence of a lot of anime to the unbridled stupidity of Spongebob kind of made me upset.

I hate it when people compare their boyfriends/girlfriends to those of other people. 'Mine has a nicer bum, but yours is hotter' kind of deal.

There was a time after that boating incident when people here liked to compare Israelites to Nazis. That made me want to knock them the fuck out. Barbarians.

"Fairies are real!" says the crazy Christian vegan
"I don't believe in fairies," says I.
They applaud me.
"Wait, what?"
"Each time you say that, a fairy dies!"
"I don't believe in fairies, I don't believe in fairies, I don't believe in fairies, I don't believe in fairies, I don't believe in fairies, I don't believe in fairies, I don't believe in fairies, I don't believe in fairies, I don't believe in fairies, I don't believe in fairies, I don't believe in fairies, I don't believe in fairies, I don't believe in fairies, I don't believe in fairies," is my rebuttal.
They still applaud.
I am superior, intellectually.

Next time I see her, I shall tell her that fairies wear boots and you've got to believe me.

When some freakin' fanboys start comparing Naruto and Bleach. I read both mangas and I think they are entertaining but when people start caomparing characters and which world would beat the other I just go into a rage. They are two different searies with two completely different powers and timelines and everything, you can't compare shit like that. It's like saying Jack Bauer would kick Marios' ass because he has a gun!! NOT COMPARABLE!!!

When people compare Obama to Stalin, Hitler, or Lenin. Seriously that always pisses me off, to say that our president is even remotely similar to these three men is just pure ignorance at its best.

Sorry, I should've explained more.

The whole point of the song is that the singer is depressed that no one understands how lonely/sad they are, and how the world is rotten on the inside yet we all soldier on like nothing is wrong. This is further shown by the style of the music, very pop and happy, like the rest of the crap in the late 80's. But anyone who actually listens to lyrics realizes the song is actually one of intense sorrow. This juxtaposition is an allegory (or one of those things) for the world at large.

While yes, the Gary Jules version DOES have excellent music and good pacing, it does away with that depth to go straight for the "Oh, the music is sad, so the song must be sad. Now I'm sad". And I hate it when things are dumbed down.
Er... maybe it's just me, but I don't find the music for the Tears for Fears version very "pop and happy" at all. Maybe it's because of the tone of the singer's voice overwhelming the music, or maybe it's because I always pay great attention to lyrics, but I don't know.

Meanwhile, Gary Jules' voice is more... um... beautiful, I suppose. Would be interesting to have that voice with the original music.
