The Game that you felt you were going to get some seriously bad karma for playing.
Hearts of Iron II gets my vote. Though it has graphics that would have seemed out dated ten years ago, let us just consider for a second that this is a game that:-
Let's you take control of Nazi Germany
Let's you fight WWII as Nazi Germany
Let's you win WWII as Nazi Germany
and let's you take immense pleasure in doing so.
I can never forget the reaction of my quarter Jewish friend when I mentioned this game to him.
I feel you're not expanding on the whole story here, just a 'its a game where you play nazis, its bad'.
The game is more of a "what if" simulator(Yes i have and play it). There is at all, no mention of "Hey fuhrer, do you wanna build more concentration camps? it'll give us more bio warfare tech". There is none of that, no moral choices, no decisions that can be made accountable to the game as being immoral.
I'll stand by the game as being a 'what if' simulator.
-What if you start in 1936 and do a better job with the italian army and modernize it.
-What if said army steamrolls the greeks and british in north africa, pushing them over the suez.
-What if, thru politics and political maneuvering, the united states stays neutal and does not enter the war, or god forbid, enter on the side of the axis after a major shift in alignments.
-What if, without the germans needing to intervene in greece and north africa, Sealion went ahead and achieved its objectives
-With england occupied, the middle east occupied, what happens, especially with the USA remaining neutral and leaving europe to its fate, especially russia?
(Sorry, I better stop here, this is another tread alone)
This is a wargame, expanded from the panzer general series, and taking elements from civilization in terms of research and global-strategic gameplay. Granted, the nazi's are bad in what they did and what they stand for, but in no way is this brought up in the game at all, i dont think theres even a picture of a swastika in the game.
All in all, i in no way say the nazi party deserves any excuses for what it did, but it should not be brought up in HoI3 (Sorry, i'm a paradox fanboi

.
No one brings up stalin's past when call of duty puts you in the shoes of a red army soldier.
Thats because what stalin, or beria or the NKVD did has any bearing on what the storyline has going on. You're not playing an officer executing Marshal Tukachevsky, you're not Beria selecting a young 18 year old girl to be drugged and carried to his bedchambers. All in all, relating paradox as being the source of all evil is...well, rather pointless in view of what the game is trying to convey, and that is a 'what if' wargame simulator.
