Batman AA is a good example. For such a good game, the end was pretty crappy.

On the side of unsatisfying endings, Ghost & Goblins takes the price for being the most challenging game and less rewarding ending (a badly written text screen) I have seen.

going waaaay back here:
On the Atari ST (those were the days) there was a vertical scrolling shooter called Xenon: Megablast. It had some of the best graphics and soundtrack I ever saw on the Atari. And it was very. bloody. hard.

Having sweated blood and bullets to get through the damn game and beat the near-impossible final boss, what do I get? the sceen flips off like I just switched the monitor off, then returns to the fuggin menu. Not even a 'well done' or 'the end'.
I swore. I swore LOTS.

oh well, I'm not one who often finishes games, but one game I remember I played to the end and got a bit disappointed of was:
Baldurs Gate: Dark Alliance on the PS2. Not only was the game surprisingly short, but the final boss battle was impossible with one player (since they hadn't yet fixed the broken controls for bows/ranged weapons in the first game, you couldn't hurt the boss from a distance, and you couldn't get close to it before you were killed by it's ranged attacks) and ridiculously easy with two players (one who attracts the attention of the boss, which then does not ever notice the other player, while the other player gets closer and kills it off with the mcguffin. And then all you get is a video only informing you "Yeah, this is a short game - but hey! There is a sequel, and here's what you'll get if you buy it!".

There was this other game for the original Xbox (and I'm blanking on the name) it was a third person shooter, it took place in space and your character had magic. Anyways, it was supposed to be bigger than it was, but since it was just so so no sequel was made.

P.S. If you can remember the name of the game that would be awesome. I totally forget and it's driving me nuts. If it helps, there was a huge sweepstakes going on with this game when it was first released. Thank you!

For you see here was the opening.

Very very awesome. You'd think with such an amazing opening they'd give us an equally amazing ending. But no instead we get this.

They made the ending using in game sprites. Bastards.
Yeah and then, even though that was clearly setting up for a sequel, Dawn of War 2 totally ignored that and even had Angelos in with no evidence of Chaos taint or anything. Wtf.

You may want to spoiler out some things using the spoiler code. (As if you didn't know.) Some people may just be dissapointed with a game before they even are able to put forwards an opinion towards an ending they may like.

My answer.
Assasin's Creed, Borderlands and Medal of honor, rising sun.

If you don't know how to spoiler, Quote me, and you'll see the code in the quote.
^A thousand thanks to you. I'm still figuring this site out.

Although I've never been moved to chuck my controller even out of my hands, the endings of these games carried their own disappointments:

Brutal Legend, Bioshock, Resident Evil 5, and Banjo Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts (Though admittedly, I didn't expect much from the former two.)

Batman: Arkham Asylum.

Joker was what, the boss fight we were all looking forward to? What a limp excuse for a fight, just like every 'boss battle' in that game.

FEAR 2.

Nothing ended. No bad guys died. No evil was contained. Nothing even remotely good and/or conclusive came to pass.

I'm the type who can replay games, even linear plot-twisty stories, over and over again if the game is good enough but FEAR2 hasnt been out of the box since I finished with it the first time because of the awful, awful ending.

I did leave that part out but my initial impression stands: there was no feeling of resolution or conculsion or anything that is usually associated with an 'ending'.

"What? Thats it?!" Pretty much sums up the ending of FEAR2.

XIII,
The most underrated game of the previous generation in my opinion. It ended with the almighty and cliché "To be continued", but they never made a sequel due to the underratedness of the game. I spent months playing that game, just to find out they never going to finish the flippin' story.
Thank you Ubi, thank you very much.
try finding the comics, the game is fun even if it does dissolve into a memory fest later on.
Believe it or not, but my dad collects comicbooks and he has ALL the XIII comicbooks. We have a special room for his and his comic-fetish. I recommended XIII after I played the game, so he started collecting the comic series. :p

Worst ending? hmm i'd say either Psychonauts, or maybe Beyond Good and Evil, because it was sooooooooooooooo good, that the endings were made for sequels; it's being said they'll do them but when???

Assassin's Creed didn't even have an ending. The game just stopped.
First, and only, time I have ever thrown a controller for beating the game.

The ending of Persona 3 was totally unnecessary. It just kicked you in the balls so they could have a sequel.
Good god yes, I even had the fes version with the addon crap and that ending still pissed me off.

Pair that up with Persona 4 where I thought the ending was the guy getting on a train and nothing else. It wasn't until I looked on the internet that I discovered that you have to do all this irritating shit to get the actual ending. You know what? No, Atlus, I'm not doing that crap, I beat the game once. I'm not playing through another 100 something hours to get another ending. Fuck you.
