On top of how insanely long they are, there is a loading screen for the loading screen.
If that isn't redundancy, I don't know what is.
That game ruined my good memories of the first 3...

Dead Space 2, not the loading screens as such but the ridiculously long death animations, that take up as much time as a traditional loading screen (and this is before the loading screen.)
This is the more annoying part, I don't care about loading screens, I don't think loading screens are the problem. The problem is when you know you're doomed and have no control over how long it takes to start to reload.

Maicka was the most recent game I have noticed this. Falling to my death off of a cliff. seeing a slowed down troll start to swing his hammer into my body is I lay on to a floor. And the worst one - constant knockback - being repeatedly being knock-backed into a wall and not having the change to fight is one of the worst things, ever.

Morrowind has the problem of bad loading screens combined with truly epic load times, try loading a saved game on morrowind it could take up to 5 minutes (xbox), then it would randomly freeze the game so it could load some more.

Monster Hunter Tri. Consider that it's a rpg type of game with online quests, the loading screen is terrible.

For me they're only a few seconds max. But the fact that the fast travel markers are on the outside of the loading screen? Fuck that. Five loading screens to get to one area.

maybe the wii shop channel download screen. at first its cute watching the 8-bit mario brother run by hitting blocks, but the sound starts to make my ears bleed when the connection is slow, and im afraid that if i turn it off i'll forget about it. it would have been nice to see different nes/snes characters run by to change things up.

I don't know about worst, but I remember a long time ago in PS1 era that there was a game for it where the loading screen let you play FRIGGIN PONG.
PONG.

AWESOMEST SCREEN EVER.

Anyone remember what game that was?

Any loading screen when you can't tell whether the game is loading or its crashed
This. Most recently with Medal of Honor multiplayer. It'll just get confused while finding a game and hang itself. It did it on my laptop during the beta and then on the 360 after release... So many small things wrong with that game...

Mass Effect 2 I agree with, but also Half Life 2, they would spring up on you randomly as you were playing which was kind of annoying.

I'll say Portal. Because of the lack of loading screen, everyone time the game paused to load the next area I thought the game had crashed. It took me a while to notice the little loading bar at the bottom of my screen.

I'm not fond of Assassin's Creed II's; at least 1 and Brotherhood let you wander around with your weapons; ACII only let's you flail around with your fists.

Mass Effect 2s. The elevators were way more interesting then any of the new ones.

Seriously, my idea for Mass Effect 3: Just give me the ability to call people into my quarters/office. That way, if I want to do the dialog stuff between missions, it doesn't take 20 freakin' minutes of loading around the damn ship.

I would like to nominate Mass Effect 2, for how frequent and pointless they are (I don't care what the blueprints of the ship are, I just want to get to the mission!) and Crash Bandicoot: The Wrath of Cortex (I think that's the one), because my God were they long!

I just recently played the Dragon Age II demo, and it had to dim the screen and show: Loading... every time I clicked a conversation option. It was ridiculous. This is on the same computer that ran Mass Effect 2 so smoothly that it actually broke immersion, because all of the animations were too quick.

I'm usually lag-free on most AAA games, and this one lags during a conversation... Damn, BioWare. It'd better be smoother on release.

I say that, but I'm getting it regardless. Dragon Age: Origins was incredible, I thought.

That's just a source engine thing, although they kind of tried to make the loading less noticeable by using the elevators as level endpoints anyway. Source in general is slow to load.

Also, I kind of doubt the interactive loading screen things actually significantly hurt performance in most games that have them. Okami had pretty bad loading times, but that's probably just because it was on the PS2 and at least the areas in that game were fairly large. If you mash the controller during the load times you have a random chance of getting random little items.

Elder Scrolls Oblivion on the Xbox360!

God Ive been tricked so many times into thinking it was still loading when actually it froze! Argh!
