Lu Bu when you first encounter him in most of The Dynasty Warriors games is usually suicide unless you're a higher level than you're supposed to be. Me and my friend spent 15 minutes stun-locking him to death once. One mistake from either of us and we'd get one-shot.

I can't remember what they're called, but in Golden Sun: Dark Dawn there is two:

- An optional boss that if you defeat him he'll become a summon. Thing is though, he summons a lot of these balls that will consume your summons, curse you, heal him, attack you, protect him, and the like. I tried to beat him three times I think, all of which took over an hour. Gave up after that.
- The final boss (at least I think it's the final boss). It's the guy that's morphed from the three guys you were just battling that were already a ***** to fight. And due to the fact that he/it occurs right after a hard ass fight, you can't go to resupply any consumables you used, which you did, and nor can you go off to level up or do anything else. He does shit loads of damage to multiple people in your party, and it has obscene amounts of HP. I spent over an hour and a half on him and got nowhere, so I quit.

Let me give you a hint: Dance, Water, Dance!!!

He was fairly annoying with his damn timed trials. He pails in comparison to that bastard Xaldin. Fuck him and his wind dragon made of lances.

Also, Puppet Ganon from Wind Waker. First two forms, no problem, last form? Hold the fuck still you bastard.

Lenus from The Legend of Dragoon. Holy crap was she impossible, 3 of her 5 moves hit my all my party members for at least half their hp. Her single attacks hit for more. I've got one other but I can't remember his name completely. He's an optional boss in Golden Sun the Lost Age. He's some kind of mage with respawnig minions who were immune to everyting except one type of move and once a turn one of those minions (the one with the most HP) healed him for 500 damage less than what my party did to him last round. That fight took me almost an hour.

The Shagohod in MGS3 still lingers in my head as being obscenely long because all you're doing is lobbing rockets at its threads.
One rocket at the tread, you circle around it and hit its backside with one rocket dosage. its a textbook weakness...not that difficult I would have thought

I'd say The Bonus Boss in FF XII Yiazmat.
50 million HP and a Dmg cap of 7k per hit halfway through.
I died after I had it down to about 20 mil and decided to waste my time with something else.
Yeah what this dud said. That boss was apparently a nightmare to beat.

First; Wow, someone else who's played a golden sun game. Never thought I'd see that in my lifetime! Second; if you thought Star Magician and Chaos Chimera were bad, wait until you meet Dullahan and Doom Dragon from Golden Sun: The lost Age.

Torchlight

Unless they have patched it by now (doubt it) it had a megashitton of health, even on easy.

The only way i managed to kill him was to respawn at my body a hundred times and losing my experience and fame as I did it.

Metroid Prime. The plant thing with 4 heads and 4 "mirrors" reflecting solar energy on the heads. You have to shoot a charged shot at the mirror so that it flips, kill the head, then kill the other 3 but wait the mirror will flip back if you're not fast enough and restore the heads life. I think you also have to go into a ball and bomb the base of the plant after destroying each head (that's what i did anyways). At no point does this feel like a metroid boss battle, it feels like a strange minigame.

Not a boss but one time in Disgaea I managed to create an outrageously overlevelled enemy that I had to whittle down with 1, 1, miss, miss, 1, miss...you get the picture. I could hardly touch the damn thing.

Took me....quite a while. And gave me quite some XP.

There was that Elizabeth Green in Prototype that was a *****. I was dealing so little damage I thought I was doing it wrong Probably was.
Me too. Spent a good hour just doing hit and run on the thing. Same with the last boss.

He's probably the only boss in that game that I got a Game Over on, and I was playing on Proud Mode my first time through.

The third boss in Star Ocean: The Last Hope that was a bit of a pain. I spent an hour fighting the thing. Not 'dying and restarting', but in a single HOUR LONG BATTLE. Was I playing the game wrong? Maybe. The fact that this guy does it in under four minutes makes me think so.

And that's why I stopped playing SO:TLH.

Darth Vader in The Force Unleashed II....

That boss fight lasted about 15 minutes too long. All it comprised of was attacking, waiting for him to do his thing, attacking the clones he sends at you, attacking him, waiting for him to do his thing.... you get the picture. Then you finally beat him! And you have to do it again...

'

Wow I skimmed through that and that does look like a boring drawn out waste of time.

The white king in demon's souls and sephiroth in kingdom hearts 2, I'd typically get only a small portion of their health down before they crank up the difficulty from normal to impossible

The last boss is much harder since it goes about three rounds with the boss gradually getting stronger each time, making it harder to keep enough revive items in stock.
You should keep going, sure it may require a lot of grinding but if you get the right combination of characters each battle is easy

The Four Kings in Dark Souls. They're in the middle of an area they are disproportionately tough for (they're probably the toughest enemies in the game despite appearing halfway through); there's no bonfire (checkpoint) nearby so you have to fight through a mass of enemies to get to them each time you fail; they all spawn separately but if you don't kill the first one fast enough the second will just spawn in while he's still there and you'll be gang-raped; the timing on all their moves is really annoying when trying to get the hang of dodging them, and they have this one AoE move that's virtually impossible to get away from in time.

Seriously, that fight took me so fucking long. But, as usual with Dark Souls, it was really damn satisfying when I was done with it.

the arkham boss fight in Devil may cry 3, the second phase. doing fine til vergil showed up, and then bam! I lose my trickster ability. goddamn it vergil...
Ooh, I know your pain! I lost my Swordmaster style, I don't want a fake Doppelganger system. I deal more than enough damage on my own...Even if it is with Vergil, my beautiful Vergil.

Most of the bosses are like this because Tri-ace confuses difficult with Shit tons of HP. So yeah any bosses in that game are my choice special mention to the final boss for probably taking about an 1-2 to beat.

I found a lot of the bosses in vagrant story to be exceptionally difficult, especially if you were doing a lot of side quests and explored a lot. Several had a lot of HP and my attacks did 1 damage, so I'd need to chain very big combos to do any real damage.
From sounds of it ya didn't have right weapons for the job >< Tough bosses yeh, but only hitting for 1hp is unusual. At least it made the dragon fights more epic right? :p

Otherwise it's been a long time since a videogame boss gave me stress (also partly due to nature of most games i play), but only one i can think off atm is final boss from prototype.
I was breezing through most of the game before that boss, and didn't persist as didn't find fighting him "fun" like i did the previous bosses, it was a chore not a pleasure and quickly gave up as felt was a waste of time for little fun.
To be fair even with the right gear the last boss in that game is still quit challenging. New Game+ however is sweet, sweet revenge.

I would have listed FFXII bosses like several others did except for the fact that I didn't enjoy that game much in the first place and Gamefaqs was kind enough to provide a time estimate for the 2-3 hidden bosses in that game at which point I said: fuck this noise.

Now, FFIX on the other hand...dear lord was Ozma annoying. ~1,000,000HP with your damage capped at 9999 and it having many, many attacks that one shot party members and/or induce damge reducing status effects. On the other hand once I figured out that the spoon wielding, frog eating joke character was (probably) the best character in the game this fight became a lot easier.
