Virtually impossible unless you picked up one randomly dropped loot item on the final level that enables you to not lose energy whilst doing specials, as there's only one attack that's particularly effective against him. One problem; where it's random, people can literally try 100 times in a row and still not get the drop.
I platinumed that game bit tht was ages ago. Is that the guy you unlock after beating the game with everyone and I think it forces you to use Inphyy or you can only fight him with her? If it is then there's a move where you fly across the screen that you can spam. That's all I did and won on my second try.

Also forgot to mention a few tedious bosses from monster hunter. Lao Shan, Jhen Moren, and Shen Gaoren. Long stupid fights with no chance of losing and to make it worse they have low chance rare drops so people actually want to fight them.

sephiroth in kingdom hearts 2, I'd typically get only a small portion of their health down before they crank up the difficulty from normal to impossible
See, you WERE doing it wrong. Sephiroth is ten minutes of pressing triangle, and making sure to *****-slap him everytime DHA hits. And even if you avoid the win button, the combos autotrack to him.
I actually managed to beat him, the most likely culprit was probably the system I was playing it on because it was pretty old and a lot of my button pressing didn't respond quickly enough even with a new controller

The Four Kings in Dark Souls. They're in the middle of an area they are disproportionately tough for (they're probably the toughest enemies in the game despite appearing halfway through); there's no bonfire (checkpoint) nearby so you have to fight through a mass of enemies to get to them each time you fail; they all spawn separately but if you don't kill the first one fast enough the second will just spawn in while he's still there and you'll be gang-raped; the timing on all their moves is really annoying when trying to get the hang of dodging them, and they have this one AoE move that's virtually impossible to get away from in time.

Seriously, that fight took me so fucking long. But, as usual with Dark Souls, it was really damn satisfying when I was done with it.
Just a little tip for anyone fighting the Four Kings, there is a shortcut at the place where you encounter the first ghosts in the area, don't go up the stairs, if you drained the water there will be a cliff that is a short fall that lets you avoid most of the journey to the boss.

Watched a friend of mine try to defeat ultima weapon in final fantasy X. he had been fighting it for over 40 minutes when it killed off all of his party members in one turn. he was so mad he didnt even rage quit just turned off the console and still to this day refuses to play that game.

For me it has to be dragon quest: journey of the cursed king. the "optional" boss fights against the dragon sanctuary leader where he keeps spawning into a different dragon after you defeat him until eventually you have to fight all seven different versions in one continuous battle one after the other.

I actually accidentally found that 'shortcut' shortly after I had drained the water, and made my way to the fog-gate that led to the Four Kings by pure chance because I didn't know which way I was supposed to go. I knew I wasn't ready to fight them, but figured "Hey, I was supposed to drop down there so this gate couldn't possibly lead to the boss already." How wrong I was...

OT: As far as time-consuming goes, I'd have to say probably Yiazmat from Final Fantasy XII if you're not prepared for him. Quick kills are generally considered to be after an hour.

He's actually the one optional monster that I don't remember if I killed or not, I don't believe I ever did. Which is one of the reasons I've been replaying it recently, because I'm crazy. :D

I can't remember what they're called, but in Golden Sun: Dark Dawn there is two:

- An optional boss that if you defeat him he'll become a summon. Thing is though, he summons a lot of these balls that will consume your summons, curse you, heal him, attack you, protect him, and the like. I tried to beat him three times I think, all of which took over an hour. Gave up after that.
- The final boss (at least I think it's the final boss). It's the guy that's morphed from the three guys you were just battling that were already a ***** to fight. And due to the fact that he/it occurs right after a hard ass fight, you can't go to resupply any consumables you used, which you did, and nor can you go off to level up or do anything else. He does shit loads of damage to multiple people in your party, and it has obscene amounts of HP. I spent over an hour and a half on him and got nowhere, so I quit.
First; Wow, someone else who's played a golden sun game. Never thought I'd see that in my lifetime! Second; if you thought Star Magician and Chaos Chimera were bad, wait until you meet Dullahan and Doom Dragon from Golden Sun: The lost Age.
OOOOOOOOOOOOH I did not just hear the name of the two bosses I hated the most in that game! I thought the Fusion Dragon sucked. I would happily fight the fusion dragon over the doom dragon any day FUCK CRUEL RUIN!!!!

Dante Must Die, Devil May Cry 3, mission 19. Having to face each and every one boss from the game again.

This here sums up my feelings.

I may be biased since I've just been replaying Persona 4 and I forgot a crucial detail about a boss the story points you to (that being that the game expects you to skip it and come back later, not that it tells you that)... fucking Contrarian King. This guy has an attack that can instakill your character (instant game over) unless you take precautions and will always be able to instakill any other party member who gets an unlucky hit. He uses this attack at random. Meaning sometimes he'll use it twice in a row or on the very first turn when you haven't had a chance to debuff him fully.

Fuck Contrarian King.

Edit - also to make it especially annoying the background music and the voice acting treats the encounter like a normal fight with basic enemies. And the guy looks like a bigger version of a basic enemy. Fuck Contrarian King.

Before I knew the trick in MSG, Phychomantis was freaking hard to beat, possible but hard.

Going old school SNES - Lufia II: Rise of the Sinistrals - "Master" (a huge red jelly) at the bottom of the Blue Treasure Chest Cave. Getting to him was a beast, let alone actually killing him. And was it true you could beat Gades the first time you battle him halfway through the game?

Also, the entire 7th Saga game on SNES. It, like Drakken, was a *****.

Honestly, Doom Dragon was annoying yes, but if you had, say, Piers healing the party every turn in the final phase (Cruel Ruin every turn), it was pretty easy, just a bit lengthy. Dullahan was a MUCH tougher boss, by a long way.

How can not everyone forget Baal on Hell mode in Diablo 2: LoD.

especially on my situation, i was using my frost Sorc. Damn it took me 45+ minutes to finally finish him off, i remember it took me 7 tries also.

He's probably the only boss in that game that I got a Game Over on, and I was playing on Proud Mode my first time through.

The third boss in Star Ocean: The Last Hope that was a bit of a pain. I spent an hour fighting the thing. Not 'dying and restarting', but in a single HOUR LONG BATTLE. Was I playing the game wrong? Maybe. The fact that this guy does it in under four minutes makes me think so.

And that's why I stopped playing SO:TLH.
I quit because I just couldn't stand the voice acting any longer. That, and because Edge wouldn't get over himself. Also, I wanted my next Gamefly game.

Most of the bosses are like this because Tri-ace confuses difficult with Shit tons of HP. So yeah any bosses in that game are my choice special mention to the final boss for probably taking about an 1-2 to beat.

Ah, thanks for reminding me. I had a similar problem with Diablo. Perhaps I needed the game patched, but I was playing as a Bowazon and my attacks missed him almost 75% of the time, despite my dexterity and all the points I put into Penetrate. It made it even worse with melee fighters, since I had to use hit and run tactics each time I took a swing at him. I almost quit out of boredom.

Yes, Inphyy-only and that's the move (AAY combo, forget the name) - obviously you picked up the Deadly Armband otherwise there's no way in hell you'd beat it on your second go as you run out of energy in two uses of it with a full bar IIRC, though it might well have even been only one.

Platinum, by the way. What on earth is that?

So, I'm going to second Occupation of Arteria Carpals in Armored Core: For Answer. It's a 5 on 1 fight (5 on 2 actually, but your buddy goes splat within the first minute), which is kind of a big deal in this game. Basically, you've done a bad thing, so every single party still in existence decides that you're too much of a dick to be left alive. Both your enemies and former allies join up to make sure you get murdered.

It's the only mission in the whole series I can't finish without exploiting the AI or some cheap ass weapons. Thankfully the mission is pretty lenient in its grading, as you'll pretty much have a guaranteed S-rank just by beating it regardless of how badly you get your face kicked in.

A friend of mine keeps on yammering about how long and hard Fou Lu in Breath of Fire IV is, but I don't remember having any trouble with him. I should probably play through it again. Ultimecia in FFVIII was pretty tough back when I didn't understand the junction system. Or English. Now she's just a big fat (not really though) joke. I guess most turn-based RPG bosses are like that if there's no luck factor involved.

A lot of the bosses in Yakuza can be a pain, a lot of them have unblockable attacks so you have to cat at mouse it. Their hit point bars have to be reduced multiple times to finally defeat them as well. They are nowhere near as long to defeat as some bosses mentioned here but some of them just feel cheap.

Lots of boss fights in God of War 2 were very long and annoying on Titan mode. Partly because they had so much health, partly because some of their attacks could now one shot me, and worst of all, because the Boss's life bars had been removed, so I couldn't even tell how much progress I was making. Also, the boss fights were very dull compared to games like Devil May Cry and Ninja Gaiden.
