Kingdom Under Fire: Circles of Doom.
Grrr. Just watch some gameplay videos of it or something, you'll see what I mean.

EDIT: Oh, the other replies reminded me of it, maybe DA:O instead.

Just about every modern day shooter. There's really only so much you can do with that. There ARE ones that stand out and shine. Throwing that in before some one replies and spouts their favorite title that has some innovation, and even then the ones that do stand out are pretty obvious and anyone could name them out of the crowd.

I find myself staying away from most triple A titles and most sub-based mass multiplayer games as well. There are a few sub-based games that have my interest at the moment, DC universe to name one. Shame they won't go free 2 play with that one, from what I've seen and read, I'm surprised they don't make it as such. Micro transactions on cosmetics alone would probably rake in a hefty amount of dough. It is proven that people are willing to pay a small sum of money to make their character look and feel unique, but I'm falling off topic.

I can't really say Duke Nukem Forever because I feel if the game was released way back when it should have been, then there would be some freshness to it. It merely became generic because at this point we're all sick to death of all those mechanics. In fact, I feel it is some what successful in that regard that, by failing, it may have a chain reaction on future fps games straying away from that style of gameplay.

Most generic game? I'd have to say The Conduit for the wii. The only thing that is even remotely memorable in that game is the opening intro music.

Kingdom Under Fire: Circle of Doom

Not at all interesting hack and slash with very little story in between the hack and slash.

Had to force myself to try and play it and could only go a couple of hours before quitting.

This is a bit of a weird thread. Half the answers seem to be taking a popular and original game that introduced a lot of new ideas and then blaming it for the legion of unoriginal rip-offs that got made of it. Prime example: calling Gears of War generic. I don't know what people think the original Halo was ripping off, except in the loosest possible sense of it copying Doom by being an FPS.

It seems some people are confusing the terms "generic" and "wildly popular".

I forgot Area 51, don't forget the inspiring collection of weapons, Assault Rifle, Sniper Rifle, Pistol, and Rocket Launcher.
Oh yeah and the and the benchmark level design! of
Desert Environment
Urban Environment
Desert Terrain with Urban Surroundings
I played a demo of the original (I think). It had an awesome regenerating-lightning-sticky-grenade launching gun that I haven't seen in any other game.

Duke Nukem Forever. Fills that category nicely.
according to Yahtzee's review its basically a melting pot of all the FPS styles of the last 12 years. thats pretty damn unique.
... what? i didnt say that made it GOOD.

ANY modern-day shooter. This includes all C.O.D. games, Medal of Honour, Ghost Recon, Rainbow Six, etc, etc.

Same weapons/gadgets,
same, generic military dialogue,
same story(Government Conspiracies+Stop the Terrorists/Russians),
same brown, boring, unimaginative environments.

In my opinion, the entire modern-day shooter genre needs to die.
be fair: rainbow 6 is nothing like CoD. its more tactical. ghost recon, i havent played. and the modern MoH? that was based on a real event. the problem is you can have it in the future, then you're ripping off Halo. you cant have it in the modern day: thats been done to death, same for the WW1/2 games.

i'd agree that the recent CoD games are all basically doing the exact same thing. i dont think any games is really generic. they make efforts at their own storyline. and people seem to be confusing 'ripoff' with generic.
Half Life is kind of generic: aliens invade, bad. guy has to stop them, good.

Duke Nukem Forever. It's not the worst game I've ever played, but it was so boring and lazily thrown together that I can't bring myself to ever pick it up again.

I only got through page one of this thread, but all of the responses being the same, i think it's safe to assume it's still that way. Gears is a good series that others copied so that one can't be it. same for certain CoD games.

My vote goes to all the Hollywood movie cash ins. With the exception of the first Kung Fu Panda game, I haven't played a single one that was worth a fuck in any way. That's as generic as it gets.

Took the words right out of my mouth. Also the whole muscle-bound, "I swear I'm not on steroids it's just the armour", Space Marine genre needs to take a break, a long break.

Absolutely no reason!
