Winter Light by Ingmar Bergman... the emptiness sets in about twenty minutes in and doesn't let up.

Even Dwarfs Started Small by Werner Herzog was depressing in a much different way. More of a "I know these dwarfs are rebelling against their asylum guards, but their creepy disjointed sentences and random destruction lead me to believe that they really need to be locked the fuck up!"

So, like the title says, what is the movie that after you were done watching it made you feel the most emo. The movie that made you for a day forget about all the good things in life.

Closer.

It's an arthouse movie starring Jude Law, Natalie Portman, Clive Owen and Julia Roberts. Not to give too much away but it was seriously depressing. It's all about these two couples that get intertwined and mixed and ends up with adultery, betrayal, lies, deception, divorce, abuse and not wanting to give the ending away but let's just say that in the end one character who had a four year long relationship with a woman, discovers very late in the movie that he didn't actually know her at all.

I rented it because someone told me about this one awesome scene where Natalie Portman is doing a strip tease while wearing a pink wig. I guess they neglected to mention the little extra part about how the ending will make you want to kill yourself again and again and again.
Pretty sure I've seen the stage version of this. My god, it's very depressing.

I'm gonna say 5 Centimeters Per Second. It's just upsetting, but then again most Shinkai stuff is.

None. I've seen movies so bad in quality that it made me forget about all good things in life such as Tim Burtons Alice in Wonderland, but that's it.

I'm not a big movie watcher, so I can't recall any really bad movies (if the movie seems to be sad/depressing, I'll skip it. I do cry during dog movies, and I cried during Lilo and Stitch, too.)

However, I remember being almost suicidal after reading "On the Beach", a story about Australia coming to terms with their inevitable deaths after the Northern hemisphere nuked themselves silly. I got really into it, and finished the last 75% in one sitting, closed the book, and thought that I was completely alone. Really bummed out for hours after that.

Black Swan and Precious really brought me down, but both films are great.
Precious?

That movie looked terrible! Was Oprah Winfrey in it? Maybe I'll give it another look.

let me in, that movie shook me to the core and was a perfect example of how to make a good movie with a massive emotional pay-off.

The Pianist and 2012. The latter because in the movie about 90% the people living on earth die and pretty much everyone in the US.

Imagine if one day 90% of the people in the world were just gone, you'd feel the emptiness in the world just like i did watchin the movie.

The mist had a bit of a "Ohh.....daaamn..." ending for me, I mean I'm not saying the movie was outstanding in any way, but hell that's one hell of a way to finish a movie

Gotta be Dancer in the Dark on top of my list. Saw it years ago, haven´t been able to watch it again. Such a sad, sad movie.

Children of Men. I genuinely thought that when they were sat on the boat, the CIA was just going to fly down in a big helicopter and shoot them both in the face.
Also, Withnail & I. At least that, that has a little hope towards the end for one character, but this only serves to make the worse for the second character, so...not so hopeful after all.
