Reavers in Gears of War during the final train level where you have to mow/shoot down Reavers with the Mulcher on Insane difficulty but the real hard part is I have no internet connection so no live co-op help nor any help from people at home cuz they don't know how to play.

That stupid tortoise boss in Shadow of the Colossus. It's not like you die very often when fighting it, but even when you figure out to stun it with the geysers, it's a ***** to try and make sure it's standing in just the right spot while hoping that a geyser will randomly decide to burst beneath it.
Don't you mean all the bosses from shadow of the collosus
Actually, no. SOTC is one of my favourite games, but most of the bosses were more challenging than difficult, if that makes sense. Most of them, I never even died once before defeating them, the trick was that it could take me about an hour to solve the puzzle on how to beat them. Then, once I figured it out, it took practice to hone my skill enough so that I could pull it off. The tortoise boss killed me over and over and over. It took a few tries before I could stay alive long enough to figure out how to defeat it. Then, once I defeated it, it felt like whether or not the tactic would work was based heavily on luck.

The tortoise moves really slow, to the point where if you see the sign that a geyser is about to blow, and it's not close to it, then you won't be able to get him there. From what I could tell, the geysers were going off randomly, so I never could predict where I wanted it to be. Finally, if I'm lucky enough to lure him over a geyser that blows beneath him, THEN I gotta work at being skilled enough to shoot his feet out from under him. Just even thinking about it causes me to recall the pain.

Many bosses in Golden Sun were pretty damned hard to beat. I recall the magician and his four minions as a fight I struggled with for weeks on and off. And he isn't even regarded as the toughest cookie in the game.

Edit: That honor goes to Dullahan, who somebody else already mentioned in this thread.

The Ruby and Emerald Weapons; FF7. You have to do so much levelling and gather so many items and materia to have a prayer of beating either of them. Plus you need materia from earlier on in the game that's more-or-less essential, but missable (mime). In fact, you have to do so much, that the reward for actually defeating them is moot, 'cos you'll have to have most of the magic the master materia you get from Emerald grants you anyway, and you'll have to have a gold chocobo like the one you get from Ruby already in order to get the essential Knights of the Round summon materia.

But once you finally manage it, it's a pretty good feeling ;3

Dead to Rights: the clown van. I've played that game twice now and I cannot beat those f*cking clowns!

Runners up:
The robot final boss of the N64 South Park game. Never beat it without cheats.
Gruntilda from Banjo Kazooie. Once she goes psycho I lose.
Maester Seymour on Mt Gagazet. For some reason I always have a really difficult time with him.

General Corrosive at the end of Metal Arms: Glitch in the System. And when I say this, I mean on the games hardest difficulty, Nuts of Steel. Your basically in a circular room with boxes all over the place, and its just you and the General together. Your about 5 feet tall, the General is a good....200 feet tall. Maybe higher. Only way to win is to collect a bunch of chips out of the boxes then blow up the base. Then you and the General end up all alone in a scrap yard where you fight each other, again. Only this time you can actually attack the General since he is a little weak from the explosion. Its really hard because on the hardest difficulty, you health bar drains soooo quickly from the Generals rockets and he can easily step on you.

The final boss from GUN was annoyingly difficult.

General Raam was the reason I stopped playing GoW, and didn't buy GoW2

Any others are more as a result of the difficulty being set on high, so I don't count them.

The giant gun machina in FFX,(restarted to level up higher).

Fighting Final Bison on Street Fighter Alpha 3 made me cry. Because I played in the arcade, not realising I wouldn't be allowed to continue against him. Needless to say, he wiped the floor with me. I hate him so much.

third boss in final fantasy 3 for the ds, it took me forever and a cousin to figure out you have to run away from the boss and I didn't know how to save because I had just entered gaming and all I ever did was quick save.

In the vein of "Natsu_Blaze," I choose another boss from MGS3, ironically called... come-on, you know.. "The Boss." Took me forever to beat her because I have this stupid obsession with never firing my weapon, so I kept trying to melee her to death. Eventually, I gave up, and used fire-arms. Made my life much easier, though i still had to try over and over like 9 times after that.
It was the opposite for me, what with her obsession with taking guns apart.

Wiseman from Baten Kaitos Origins. Holy shit was that boss hard.

Technically speaking, it's not a 'required' boss you have to face to beat the game, but if you want to get the right ability to face the final boss, the Wiseman fight is the way to go.

Not only do you have to fight a massive Black Dragon before fighting him, with lots of health and devastating attacks, but once you're fighting Wiseman, his every attack saps a significant part of your health and a resource analogous to 'mana,' which determines how many attacks you can use per turn.

And he's got plenty of health, too. And if you can't beat Wiseman in your current state- if you need to level up or somesuch- be prepared to load a previous save and do the fight with the Black Dragon THEN Wiseman all over again.

I barely beat Wiseman in my last save. Just barely.

I'm never fighting him- or her, or it, it's not really clear- again.
Seven kinds of THIS.
Except he's slightly eclipsed by the Semi-final boss if you managed to beat Wiseman. Who's less hard more tedious as fuck.

Oh, Arhiman in Nocturne. He has an attack called "Tentacle" I'll leave it there.
You mean:

Verus and his tentacle friends? Yeah, that gets tedious really fast. Thankfully, Guillo's spells provide a solution- perform the Frigid Queen's Festival combo using the magnus you got from Wiseman.

The combo eradicates all enemies at once, so Verus and friends can't regenerate. It's hard, but pays off in the ending.

Yes, that. I was just never patient enough to set up the combo.
It leads to bashing faces with controlers aggravation after the third regeneration.
