Recently I'd say it was the Mafia boss in Hotline Miami, mainly because it took me ages to figure out how to kill the female ninja and then kill him.

Overall though I'd say Razor from NFS Most Wanted (original), with the smallest slip ups being very costly.

Hmmm, Lucien from Fable 2, took me like, a million tries to kill him...jk jk ;)

No, I think the boss in video games I fucking hated, took me ages to beat, was the Dark Genie at the end of Dark Cloud 1, the final form with the hands n shit and all that jazz. Went on and on, and if I died? Gawd damnit, back to start.

Fucking, end boss at the 100 lvl dungeon was super easy compared to Dark Genie.

Another painful boss level would be the final level "The land of the livid dead" the run through the level was brutal and the boss while easy after a few minutes practice, was still a pain.
That level was ridiculous. At the very least, it isn't like the original Rayman in which you had both limited lives and limited continues. That fact alone makes the stage bearable.
I don't think he was talking about Rayman 3. Which is a shame since that's one of my all time favourite games. The only difficult bosses in that game were the two Reflux battles. The first battle with him was the best, that gorgeous arena stage and that amazing sountrack.
Agreed. Rayman 3 was quite awesome. I also really enjoyed the Refulx battles.

Yup, I got stuck there for a while when I was trying to unlock the Darkwraith Covenant. Though once I got a decent weapon I killed one and could make myself a sandwich before the next one came out. NG+ They weren't too bad. I was still able to kill one before the next spawned. Also the key is to stay as close as possible, but know the tell for their AoE attack. Their damage is greatly reduced by being close to them, expect for that AoE which will probably one shot you.

He's one of the easier bosses. He's got a dead zone by the end his left (your right) tentacle. Just follow the tip and stab him and he can't hit you, and for some reason he wont use his local AoE attack. If I had the patience he's one of the few bosses I could beat with the broken sword hilt.

New Game +
I know the first NG+ cycle health and damage increases by about 50%, but after the first cycle doesn't it drop to 10% and continue to diminish?

Anyways, Gwyn from Dark Souls as well. I suck at parrying, and I always dodge too soon and that gets me combo'd. Blocking... nope his fire damage does 1/5 of your health even when you block. I ended up just summoning someone and sat back and popped Estus for them.

+1 Capra Demon
+1 Four Kings

Maybe Lao-Shan Lung in Monster Hunter games? When you got far you could easily take him down, but to begin with he was just some huge walking mountain that was so hard you didn't even need to kill him to win the level.

Beezy from Sakyubasu No Tatakai.

The mask boss in that game is even harder, but I haven't beaten it, only the main bosses.

I also regard that as the hardest game I've ever beaten.

Akuma in SF2 took me so many tries to beat I ended up just trying to fight him once with every character and won by luck with Fei Long.

Sephiroth in KH1, he's harsh with punishment and requires high stats and reflexes. Only beat him once, I tried again a month later and died at the start of his second phase. I was a little sad in KH2, when Sora was given so many abilities, the fight with Sephiroth felt funnier than it was awe-inspiring (Sephiroth will continue his ridiculous spinning sword combo while Sora floats directly above him).

EDIT: I forgot Ornstein and Smough, beating Ornstein first makes it so easy I killed myself in-game so I could fight giant Ornstein. The bullshit of the fight comes in with how they can kill you as you get up, but before you can block, with really hard to dodge attacks. Plus, they have no friendly fire.

Pshaw you guys have it easy. The hardest boss in gaming history is the Demi Fiend from Digital Devil Saga. TV Tropes describes it best:

The Demi-Fiend battle in Digital Devil Saga, quite possibly one of the hardest bosses in the history of JRPGs, if not the hardest boss. Not only will he instantly kill you in the first turn if you have a "forbidden" move set, but the strategy required to defeat him requires a very specific use of one usually worthless skill that you would never use in the main game. I have no clue how anyone could figure this out without the use of a strategy guide. Beating him gets you a useful accessory that you can only use in the sequel. And even then, if you do manage to get him down to half health, his High Pixie will fully heal him. If you kill all of his demon companions, he'll insta-kill you. If you go in with any negating moves (the said 'forbidden list'), he'll insta-kill you. Hell, even with the correct strategy, if you take too long to kill him, he'll just get bored and insta-kill you anyway. To add insult to injury, his battle music is the regular Nocturne battle music, so he may be an uber hard bonus fight to you, but you're nothing more than a random encounter to him. Anyway, even without his instant kill skills, he is beastly difficult ? you need to cap out your major stats to even have a fighting chance, and then there's the actual strategy involved... which simply fails half the time due to bad luck.

Dark Souls wishes it had a boss like this.

This guy.

If you ever played Tales of Symphonia, you know what I'm talking about.
For those who don't; I over-prepared the first time I tried to beat him(including reducing the difficulty). He killed my first party member in five seconds, and wiped my entire party after 15 seconds. Taking all his health out usually takes 20-30 minutes, and while you can stunlock him fairly consistently with some good timing, he'll reach over-limit(reduced damage taken, immune to hitstun) annoyingly often, during which time he can pretty much oneshot anyone on your party if you're not properly blocking his combos or dodging his spells. Oh, and when he reaches 50% health, he'll use Meteor Storm, which can wipe out your entire party with a little bad luck. Unless it's on the highest difficulty, in which case he'll use one of the secret spells twice during the fight(50% and 25%), both of which can also kill your entire party with ease if you're not preparing.

So yeah, Abyssion is easily the hardest boss I've ever beaten.
The best part about him? This was on the gamecube-version. They made him even harder in the PS2-port. x_x

Dragon Age: Origins. I wandered into some dungeon in Denerim, fighting hard the whole way. It takes me like two hours to get to the boss and several elite backups and I run into a brick wall in terms of progress. It turns out that the dungeon in question was meant for people who are 10 levels above where I was at at that point. Also, it almost required a mage with blizzard, which I did not have at the time. I should have just left after I looked it up, but me being absolutely insane, I pushed on. Two hours, 100 deaths, and all the health potions I had later, I managed to beat it thanks to a few lucky dice rolls.

Desann from Jedi Outcast on Jedi Master difficulty.
He can force grip you to death and you won't even be able to break out of it. His push and pull are unblockable, he can kill you in 1 hit and his saber attacks are also unblockable. Even his saber throw goes through your block and takes away around half your health.
It was... an interesting fight. You're supposed to activate and use a kind of force nexus thingy that temporarily makes you invincible... but if he uses it, he'll also become invincible. The real trick is that a certain platform's supports can be destroyed, and if he happens to be underneath it, he'll get crushed.
I killed the fucker without invincibility or the collapse trick. Felt like a goddam boss.

While i've been farther into the game, The hardest bosses I've ever faced had to be the Crawler, Evrae, and Sinspawn Gui from Final Fantasy X, all for the same reason. I faced these when I was young and I had no concept of the Sphere Grid which is your main means of leveling up and I had a tendency to skip a lot of battles because at age 10, they grew boring quickly.

The Final Boss from Metal Gear Solid 4 too. Fuck that fight.

Also, I'm playing psyconauts right now and the boss fights are hard for me mainly because the camera angles are so awkward that they make the arenas feel smaller than they already are.

Metroid Prime 2: Echoes was full of 'em - on the hardest difficulty, of course. Emperor Ing, Dark Samus, Chykka, the Boost Guardian... surprisingly though, I've never had any problem defeating Quadraxis, which is the most intense and exciting fight in the game.

The Enforcer from Sword of the Stars counts, I think. Don't you dare start military buildup or this ************ will set you back into the stone age.
Also the fucking lava spider thing from DMC1, I hate that thing.
And not to be forgotten is The Boss from MGS3, when you're just going hand to hand with her. A total rush, but hard.

Emperor Doel from Legend of the Dragoon was one of the toughest fights I ever had. He could just chain his crazy powerful lighting sword attack together and do it 4-6 times in a row without letting you move. It starts to get personal after a while...

General RAAM in the first Gears Of War must have taken me 40 effing tries, same with the Marker at the end of Dead Space 2 with the difficulty I was playing on.
And for some reason, Nightmare from Metroid Fusion. I could just ever figure out his pattern, I don't know why.

Mike Tyson from Punch Out. Hands down the hardest boss I have faced. One Punch knock outs, and only blinks to give away his moves. You have to have perfect timing for the whole fight or he will win.
