I love you.

I hate 'the Catcher-upper', the type of fan who joins the fandom late and catches up on the past of the series through reading spoiler guides and synopses. Their lack of knowledge infuriates me.

Twighlight fans?

I don't know really. I hate the fans that critisize something just becuase it isn't what they play/love etc. My friend is like this. He bashes any game that isn't Call of Duty related. I tried to get him to play HL2 but he said that it's fun. Now I didn't try to force him becuase I know that some people just don't like that game but when I asked him why did he not like it, it was becuase "you can't dual wield guns like MW2"

I have a housemate who is exactly like this. If you cant shoot germans then the game is shit. Hes a bit of a prick IMO

The kind who are more concerned with games fulfilling their genre checklist than actually enjoying them. "Mass Effect 2 isn't even an RPG because there was no looting". That kind of stuff. Games don't exist to fit point-by-point genre definitions.

Not sure about the name (if they have one), but I truly despise those that want something, and then complain about it when they get it.

For example, GoldenEye is being remade on the Wii. This is something that many of us (although I won't speak for everyone) wanted to happen. On YouTube, however, everyone is complaining about it.

-"Daniel Craig is in it, its gonna suck"
-"Graphics still look shitty"
-"They changed the levels"
-"Shoulda been on the 360"

...Are you kidding me? This is something we have all been hoping for for like, what, 13 years? And now that its coming out, you're complaining about it?! Seriously, get it, or don't. Just don't waste the rest of us' time bitching about things for the sake of bitching.

...whew, there. That's my rant (and my first one, too :D).

There are sub-divisions of fans? I just thought a fan was a fan. Having read the thread so far, I think near enough every fan of anything does pretty much everything of fan classes that you are describing. It's not the fact they are fans that wind you up, its the fact that they cannot contruct an efeective argument, or that they see your argument as an affirmation of their own lack of intelligence. Which then brings out the "My Dad is harded than your Dad" mentalities
Not a sub-division, but just sort of the behavior of them. Like, not a PC-FPS fan, but a fan who wants it all his or her way when it comes to an upcoming title.

I don't know if they are the worst fan though. My friend has a thing for shooting nazis and when your with him he's fine. He won't go on and on about it and is a very nice person. The only problem comes is when you try to change his views. To him it's like I just tried to piss all over his holy bible.

As long as these types of fans don't keep droning on about why game X is better than game Y then they aren't to bad.

Probably the "Holier than thou" fan. For instance (And this is something that truly startled me) I love Popeye the sailor man and as a kid I loved (And still love) watching the cartoons. One day I go up to my dad and say something along the lines of "I like the Popeye cartoons" and I'm guessing he must've been a pretty big fan back in his day when they were probably making new serials and episodes and he got all defensive and started asking me in a serious tone things like "Oh yeah, well what's Popeye's babys name?". I now know that she's called Sweetpea but back then I didn't know and I felt very dejected from the supposedly existent Popeye fan-club.

I've never entirely liked any kind of obsessive fan. Although they may still be a perfectly reasonable person in all other ways, their obsession always annoys me to no end.

First of all: Yaoi fangirls and Yuri fanboys. See those two that are in completely heterosexual relationships? They're not gay. I don't have anything against those who happen to be homosexual, it's just the blatant disregard for the established facts that gets to me.

B: Fan Fiction writers. Do you have a good idea for a story? Then go write it. I don't care, as long as it uses proper grammar, with the exception of certain characters' particular idiosyncrasies. However, it's taking it a bit far to write established characters' personalities totally differently. Self insertion I can handle, too, as long as it's just a cameo or small role, but Mary Sues are going too far. Just cause you like him doesn't mean he's gonna dump his old girlfriend in a garbage disposal and change his outlook on life just to praise you all day. Kind of ties in with the above.

3: Haters. The ignorant and intolerant people who hate something and the people who like it and never did the research into it. For example, I play Team Fortress 2 a lot. I like it for its bright colors. I don't really like Modern Warfare 2 very much, though. It's too gritty. I don't, however, hate the people who play it a lot. It's the game that I don't like, not the fans of it! I try to stay as informed and as neutral as possible when describing why I don't like a certain game. I list the things that I like, and those that I don't. I can't STAND the people that take everything against their game like a death threat against themselves, their family and their pet dog and reply with the statement: "no ur gay".

It's the disregard and willing ignorance that gets to me. Anyways, I should probably stop here. I'm starting to rant.

I am a skeptic. In today's gaming industry I think it is necessary.

I hate the ones that are blindly loyal and will give money every year for the same game with a different title.
This basically only it needs to be altered to giving a 2 thumbs up to a specific franchise no matter the actual quality presented. Not pointing out any particular games fanbase but to give you an idea, fanboys of the mindset that no game titled Call of Duty:_______ can be bad nor have flaws. Insert whatever game title you want in there though.

The overly devoted fans. The sort that will tell you something is close to godly but won't have anyhting except the usual "It just is" as argument as for WHY it is such a good game. They are also the kind that will always ramble about how great it is and try to pull in quotes at every possible turn, they will always try to convince others of how great it is even though they deep down know it's just a passing thing.
(I used to be that kind of fan, but fortunately i grew out of it when i got a little brother who turned out like that and i saw how annoying people like that are)

With people on Youtube? Ahahah. hahah. AhAHAHAHAA-A. Uhm. I forgot where I was going.
Kinda quoted me out of context there... The point I was making is that thoughtful discussion isn't allowed on youtube...
Haha, yes I know =3. I might be a wee bit drunk. No, not really. I never drink much. Two friends came over and one makes like all kinds of cool drinks cause his dad used to show him that stuff when he was bar tending. I don't like beer so I only drink when it's tasty drinks or very good wine =3.

Uhm, yes your right. Youtube is no place for seriousness and discussion. That is why we have The Escapist. HAHAHAH! --- I'll go to bed now...

2 words: Yaoi Fangirls. I hate them so much that it's actually difficult to put into words. They either live in an alternate reality or they are constantly on some sort of illegal substance. They will tears characters and stories apart for their own devices until they are no longer recognizable as what the real fans have come to know and love.

This is ESPECIALLY bad in the Devil May Cry fandom.
