Personally, I hate the fans of the PC who feel that because they play PC they have some kind of valid right to be a prick to people. I just wish they would get their head out of their arse and realise that it does not take a higher evolved specimen of human to play on a computer instead of a console and that really they have no right to walk around smugly asserting an authority that they don't have.

That said, I know most PC gamers are just gamers like the rest of us but I just see the term 'console fratboy' being tossed around in arguments way too much.

What's your least favorite type of fan?
I'm not talking Nintendo or Sony fanboys, I mean the classifications.
Example:
I hate "The Innovator."
These guys are the ones who are like, "Hey guys, y'know what would be amazing? Two player Zelda or Halo as a racing game." I hate these guys who are trying to bump up games that are good with ideas that in reality would fall apart. Especially the ones from Super Smash Bros. Brawl.
"Geno should be in there and there should be costume specific Final Smashes."

I also hate elitists and skeptics.
1.Depends on the innovator, your not innovative if you are watering down the product for the mindless masses (Final Fantasy,Halo,Bioshock,The WII,every other game made these days.)

2.It worked for Mario Kart?

I am an elitist because I want more not less from media in general, much less what I spend real money on. And I highly skeptical things will improve since the last decade we chased the blind graphic goddess and now we are chasing the numb goddess of tactitleness.........

PS:FF13 is not a RPG game....hell practically a movie..... just get it over game industry and make games so they play themselves so I can at least enjoy teh shiny.....

The bizaare sub-genre of fans that only want to play a game without having a clue what they are supposed to be doing/fighting for/etc.

In other words, those fans who will willingly skip every cut scene, plot message or piece of in-game literature AND THEN COMPLAIN ABOUT THE GAME'S PLOT BEING 'RETARDED'!

I mean, if you don't have a clue what the plot was after finishing it, that may be because you didn't actually give a damn while playing it! You can't complain about a game having a shit plot if you never experienced the story for chrissakes!

Oh, and on a slight off-topic note, the same goes for critics who criticize (see what I did there?) the plot on account of it being too clichéd, copyed or generic. I understand what you are referring to, but all too often we see you same critics lambast a story that tries to be original because you don't get it/couldn't be arsed to pay enough attention/skipped it/saw an easy way out that granted you some critic kudos.

oh, and Football fans (meaning Soccer)

Strange how so many people can get so worked up over something they have absolutely no control over, and the majority of them have the balls to then turn around and call us nerds for playing a game and enjoying entertainment where the outcome depends on you, if even just a little!

Seriously, anyone who thinks Gamers and net trolls take it too far is WAY off the mark! Only good thing for the rest of us is the average die-hard footy supporter rarely uses the net for anything more than ebay and their team's homepage.

The type of fans I hate are the elitist fanboys like the x-box 360 fanboys or the ps3 fanboys. Not all fanboys are bad though. The fanboys that keep an open mind about things are cool, the ones that stay willfully ignorant and closed minded are the type I hate the most.

After reading numerous posts from dear Escapists I bravely arrive.

I my self have this odd kind of mindset. I am a guy who'll pretty much be a fan of everything and anything. I'm an SFK fan, J.K Rowling Fan, RE fan, LOTR fan. Hell, I'm even an Urgan fan yet I never read a Redwall book in my life. But no one gives a crap about anything I just typed so I don't quite know why I shared any of that. Probably just in the mood to randomly type.

Digressions and re occurring jokes aside. . .

I hate two kinds of fans and from reading the comments I can easier sum it up. I hate the aggressive fans who tear you limb from limb if you disagree and if you don't suck on their lords cock. Secondly, I find the fans who say something they don't like is annoying or dumb without any justification.

Take Ironic Pirate's post for example.

i know ive been ninja'd by like five people but,
I got the tip of a finger on my right hand halfway cut off by a fan my parents had from like the 70's so, the cavemen back then apparently made fans out of spinning knives
so i have more of a reason to state that I hate fans from the 70's than anyone else has about ones that only have one speed

I particularly dislike the "Mouse / Controller is better because it's more precise / faster." fans. They both have their merits. Use whatever you like. I don't care! For example, I prefer controllers for FPS and a mouse and keyboard for RPGs so that is what I use. I don't need to make a whole song and dance about why I do or why one is better.

The fans of terrible games/movies/people/series, and that know it is bad but has to be forgiven for some dumb reason.

For example...

The Dark Knight Returns 2: According to Linkara, fans were outraged saying that what everything that Miller has done for the industry for his work in ONE comic miniseries makes all the pointless sexism, culture references, horrible art style, and terrible plot is forgivable.

Transformers 2: According to Spoony, fans were screaming at him, saying that Transformers "...wasn't trying to be Citizen Kane."

Alvin and the Chimpmucks: the Moviepreviewcritic showed comments from his review of Alvin and the Chimpmucks during his squecel review yelling at him for, "Stamping on their fun" (horribly spelled and more swear filled of course). By the way, his average of reviews get about ten of thousands of hits, his review of the first Chimpmucks movie got around 2 million.

Meet the Spartans: I don't remember who reviewed this, but durning his review of the Disaster Movie, this guy cited one of the many comments made during his Disaster Movie review yelling at him saying, "Its suppose to be dumb."

Super Smash Brothers: Look on the comments for Yahtzee review, and you will see what I mean.

Yeah, I would have to say the one that knows every little detail about whatever they are a fan of, and isn't at all hesitant to rub it in your face when they think they need to, which is all the time. . .

Second would be the one who automatically hates something just because it's popular. Honestly, there isn't a lot of decent music that is popular in the U.S. at this moment, but you don't need to frequently remind us how much it sucks and how much you wish the song's writer would die a painful death or whatever.

The people who consider what their thing is better without any argument. IT'S JUST BETTER I DON'T KNOW WHY. I wouldn't mind it if they could explain HOW it's better. But 87% of the time (i have a tally) they don't

The people who will say something is "stupid" or "pointless" just because, they, personally aren't a fan. They will also except no criticism about whatever the hell they like. An example (acronyms have been added because I'm impatient).

Me: RDR looks pretty good.

Friend: It's seems stupid.

M: Why?

Frien: There's no point, you just ride horses.

M: So you just don't like riding horses?

Frie: No, it's just... dumb.
If he sees Jonah Hex, tell him his entire arguement is invalid.

Say game "X" comes out and has sequels. The sequels have improved visuals, improved controls and mechanics, but has only minor changes to the base story and concept.
Now say game "Y" is released and has sequels. The sequels have improved visuals, improved controls and mechanics, but has only minor changes to the base story and concept.

Now fan "A" loves game "X" to death and thinks of the sequels as vast improvements over the previous versions (sans a couple of terrible mistakes the developer made that made it too different of a game).

Now fan "A" takes a look at game "Y." Game "Y" is of another genre then game "X." So fan "A" clamors that it's the same game over and over again and that anyone that enjoys it has been fooled by the evil corporation that developed it. If anyone tries to defend it, then they must surly be a close-minded "One Brand to End all Brands" fan.

This is the fan that usually won't be happy until game "Y" is changed enough to be exactly like game "X."

This is the type of fan that, if this was food instead of games, would bash Waffles for being boring and unoriginal until they add enough changes to make it in to a hamburger.

It's the "All must play as One" Fan.

That is but one example of fans I hate dislike. Other Examples are:

"If it was good once it'll be good again" Fans: The Sequel/Remake pushers. (Just the really pushy ones.)

"The Reader trumps the Writer" Fans who think they know more about the game and it's characters then the developers. (That's like knowing more about Luke Skywalker then George Lucas does.)

"All must look like One" Fans that think a game is bad because of it's graphics or choice of visual style. (Look, if you don't like the cartoony style of Wind Waker that's fine, doesn't make it any less of a great game though.)

And while we're at it, let's add in the "All must sound like One" fan, the rare ones who think that a game sucks because the character doesn't act like their favorite character does or the story is told differently, to complete the Trinity that is "All must be like One" Fan.

"I just like to Complain" Fans, that will complain about every last little thing they can because they don't understand that the concept of nothing's perfect applies to games as well as life. This coupled with the "I'm no developer, but you should do this" fan who's ideas are just bias and not thought out. A bias idea would be suggesting they add Cloud from FFVII into Super Smash Bros. simply because it was your favorite game or character. A non bias idea would be to add a generic Black Mage, since they're common in the FF world and have appeared in actual Nintendo games.

And because this list is getting long, I'll end with this:

"Sonic Fans"

I'm a Sonic Fan, we're a delusional over-demanding lot aren't we? We're so hopeful the next game will be good, yet we're so jaded by how bad his games are that we can't let go of the past. I'm willing to bet that every fan type listed on this topic can be equated to some Sonic Fan.

Sonic Team really needs to take a break.

-------------------------------------------------------

EDIT: While we're on the subject, I'd like to give a special hate filled shout out to "It was a Game?!" and "The Original should Mimic the Copy" Fans. Those special people who became fans of the shows based off a game and, upon finding out about the games, wanted the games to be more like the show or constantly refer to the show as if it's the Original incarnation of the Series.

The Nostalgia Fans that can't tell when things have changed.

For instance I love the old Nintendo, I love the SNES, but Nintendo doesn't represent what it use to any more. Nintendo use to be all about having all the best games on their system and catering to the hardcore.

This isn't the Nintendo of today because that title has been passed onto Xbox/PS3, but the fans can't tell the difference.

Now I'll tell you a specific group of haters I don't like, and they pretty much work the same way.

I have a friend that hates todays shooters because he says they're all a swarm of machismo fueled Aliens movie rip off space marines.....but he loves to death the Contra series.

I argued over the irony that Contra is no different except he played the game as a kid and there for see it differently, but he's not willing to except that and begins making up other reasons why to hate....>=/

Anime fans who call them selves "otakus". If they really knew the japanese culture they worship, they'd know that being an "otaku" is nothing to be proud of. And when they do the dance from Haruhi or Carmelldansen it makes me cry on the inside; not because they're making me lose faith in humanity, but because I can't kill them.

Machine fanboys are horrible. The ones who become a fan boy of any console or become PC fanboys. Message to all fanboys: Your argument sucks. It will always suck; deal with it.

I also loathe Final Fantasy fans. The ones that played FF 7 and thought it was the best thing in the history of the universe and have giant, earth-shaking orgasms when you mention the damned thing.
