What can I do with this one, Aphrodite? SHE WON'T - STAY - STILL! I want to make them beautiful, but they always turn out wrong! That one - too fat. That one - too tall. That one - too symmetrical! And now - what's this, goddess? An intruder! And he's ugly. Ugly - ugly - UGLY!!
I thought about this, and then I realised it didn't really shock me all that much so much as impress me.

The only thing I can't stand, something that has truly horrified me, is harvesting a little sister in the first Bioshock.

To be honest, the whole mission was quite disturbing.
Aaaaand this. It was quite unexpected from a game like Saints Row 2.

OK I am surprised that this hase´nt come up yet.

End of Project Overlord. How any one could do that to his own brother? It is just awful.

To be honest that scene from Homefront really didn't do much for me. I found a bit pathetic that instead of trying to make the Koreans an interesting enemy, they more or less turn them into cartoonishly evil and soulless bastards right from the get go. Personally I'd call it an emotional cheap shot.

That, plus certain parts of the final hour of Mass Effect 2 (if you've played it I think you know what I'm talking about).

The 'Meat House' and snuff film sections in Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines left me feeling nauseous. Not to mention Gimble... Oh god Gimble. Seeing the mutilated pictures and limbless torso was just disturbing.

Hell, I'll just go out and say all of Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines. Game certainly deserved its M rating. Damned good game too, extremely good, but bloody hell can it be sick and twisted at times.

The dead Space 2 needle scene kinda bugged me. The Condemned Scene where the guy in the locker wakes up was terrifying the first time.

Red Dead Redemption

The ending, Marston walks out of his barn to face about 20 or so army troopers and FBI agents, kills and handful and then gets riddled with bullets. Just the gurgling sound and ragged heavy breaths he made before he died sent shivers up my spine
I just can not decide between both of these.

Oh gods, the sewers when that... thing, climbs down from the ceiling and you have to climb very quickly to the railings above or it annihilates you.

THIS. SR2 was a silly and quirky game, but it when it wanted to get serious, it got the job done.

The worst part was my friend in co-op called in Zombie Carlos. Carlos was my boy, I didn't want to see that :(

Dead Space

The scene where Issac sees the full clip of Nicole's message. Really just...horrifying. Probably the biggest WTF?! moment in the entire game

I forgot about that. Definitely that. The monster.

THIS!

And also the opening sequence when Rose attacks the sub...when Atlas told me to get out of the bathysphere, my reaction was, "FUCK NO! Did your accent blind you from the gutting that just took place? I mean that guy's guts are still warm on the window for Chrissake!"

That's more like it.

Seriously, there's nothing you shouldn't have in a game. Obviously the scene from Heavy Rain takes the biscuit, but also some of the other scenes from that game. The genuine sadness they managed to get on Shelby's face was so powerful for me, really helped him be a sympathetic character.

Also, talking of horrifying, seeing Hammond killed in Dead Space. I don't know why, but I connected with him a lot, probably because he was doing things while Kendra was bitching.

Flower. Seriously. Not a single gun or zombie, nor the opportunity to teabag someone while questioning their sexuality over chat.

I keed, obviously. Honestly the only scenes to really disturb me have already been mentioned, namely Jenny's death in The Darkness and a few moments in Heavy Rain. Thanks to the fact that I didn't read any how-to's but wanted to get all the trophies I actually had to repeat the finger cutting scene, and it isn't any easier the third time. As well as that I found myself feeling kind of queasy the longer I made Ethan crawl through the glass in the Butterfly Trial, and the final decision in the Shark Trial... gah.

Saints Row 2: Red Asphalt...

You'll be forever in our hearts, Carlos. I replayed Bank Error In Your Favour countless times just so I could execute Jessica in increasingly karmic ways.

And just as a note, if Saints 3 has anything anywhere near as horrific and sad, I will cry. And it will be terrible.

Admittedly, in Portal it was genuinely unnerving and creepy to see the decrepit living space with the frantic, insane graffiti for the first time; looking back, I shouldn't have read the plot summary on Wikipedia beforehand. Whatever, it was still powerful.

Also, while I've probably seen worse, that's the best candidate I can think of right now.

Amnesia: After slowwwwwly traversing a small labyrinth containing one of the most vicious monsters yet, finding a "brass bull", at which point the flashback voices explain exactly how it works. It doesn't even show you anything, but still...

There was a part in Doom 3 where a lady's skull and spine rip themselves out of her body and the skull then turns into one of the flaming skulls and it attacks you. I wasn't expecting it, it was kinda great.
