If I remember correctly, and I did play through the game twice, the SOCOM was not in MGS4. It was in MGS though. Just not part 4. He had the Operator as his standard pistol.

You could pick up a SOCOM in ACT IV.

It was much more affordable in the earlier games. It sends out nine missiles in one shot, that seek out enemies individually. So it's awesome against a swarm, and incredible against a single enemy

The crate, what you wouldn't be anywhere in a game if the crate wasn't there to give you extra ammo or health, or to taunt you if it's one of those annoying empty crates.

I'm personally inclined to say the BFG 9000, just clicking on the topic it jumped into my head. It is truly iconic in that it has cascaded into common gaming culture to represent that endgame weapon everyone Jones for from the beginning.
