I don't think that can count as iconic, seeing as how it's a reference to Monty Python's Holy Grail. I would say the Worms series' iconic weapon is the sheep bomb.

I have to throw my vote in with the BFG. Even people that don't play video games know what you mean when you say BFG.

No, not really. If they know you're talking about a weapon and have a few brain cells they might extrapolate that BFG == Big Fucking Gun. Also, it's in a movie. Though if we discount that we have to discount the inventory of every WWII shooter because M1 Garand is one of the greatest guns in history.

I think you're onto something there. The hammer has been around since Mario first appeared in Donkey Kong, though it may have been in some other more obscure games now well beyond most of our memories. Since then it has shown up in pretty much anything Nintendo has made.
