I can't quote it directly, but here's the gist of it:
"Why spend all that time playing video games? I went out and had sex with countless women I don't even know. You should be more like me."

"Man, this game is FUCKING AWESOME IN EVERY WAY! I LOVE IT!"

Anyone who utters those words is, to put it charitably, a buffoon.

My dad once blamed what he called 'the death of common sense' on people playing more video games.
He said something like this; 'Kids are spending too much time on their Playstations or Xboxes. I heard somewhere that the average is about 30 to 40 hours a week. They aren't going to learn how to look after themselves or anything useful playing those things'.

That's all I can think of really...
Well... I have had the same concern for myself numerous times. When I started seeing every other possible activity in the world as an alternative to videogames, I started wondering if I had crippled future opportunities.
To much to much time invested in anything make it near addiction, the same can be said for books. If your dedicating more than 40Hous a week to any single task other than work, sleeping, or school you need help, or at the least something else to help fill your time.

G'day escapists, As the title says whats the most ignorant or just plain stupiest thing somebody has said to you about gameing? Did they preech the evilness of those dog-garn Videoised board games, or did they simply say something based more on opinion then fact? Please share.

For mine, well, i'll cheat a bit, i actually overheard my friends mother speaking about how one of her Co-workers belived the "Halo game caused that school shooting".
My mother tried to tell me that there was more intellectual value in her reality television shows, "The Real Desperate Housewives of Jersey Shore," than in video games such as "Flower," "Flow," "Left 4 Dead 2," and many others.

Can you name 3 please? And be specific.
Come on! That's not fair. Do you think he actually keeps a record? Still, I must admit that this is the first time I've heard of this stereotype.

"You still play video games? Haven't you grown out of that yet?" - says my friend to who I reply with a stab in the back of the head with a spork... covered with poison from my pet platypus.

Oh! How could I forget this one? About 23 years ago, in 1st grade, I had just developed my Nintendo fanboyism against Sega. All I could do was chant "Sega sucks!" Somehow, I thought saying that automatically made it true, so it was my only response to anyone's argument that Sega was better. It's amazing how stupid we can be as kids.

Nothin to bad that I can think of.

Its annoying that my parents seem to think that all I do when I have it is sit in front of it playing games all day though. Whenever I don't have it, I sleep, which bugs them even more.

You could easily name three members of each group that like video games from this site alone. I'll take one of the slots for Christians, and I know there's a fairly large number of conservatives on this site -- although they tend more to the Libertarian side than the Republican side.

I bought a pink DS.
Not a big deal, it was used but pretty much in mint condition so I got it at like 40% the price. I didn't even think twice about it being pink.

I bring it to work and this dumb slut comes up to me and says "Is that a pink Nintendo DS?" in a snobby tone.

"Yes"
"It's pink"
"Yes"
"And you are playing...a pink DS"
"Yes we have established its colour, can I help you with anything else"
"You are such a loser"

I was like really? You're calling me a loser?
Because I'm comfortable enough with my masculinity to play a Pink DS.
I later pointed out she should really trim her facial hair because it looks like she has a moustache (which she does).
lawl. that last part made me laugh. good for you for being mature about it.

OT: i've heard some really dumb stuff from non gamers and gamers alike.. but i will say that i heard an adult the other day (against gaming of course) say that "Games directly make you a much more violent person and are only in the demographic for violent kids and fucked up teenagers" in which i sat there across the room facepalming about how incredibly ignorant and outgoing that statement was.

I was playing Kingdom Hearts a few years ago. My game systems are set up in my finished basement. My mom was doing some laundry down there, and after she finished she walked over to me sitting on the couch. She paused for a second, without looking at the game I was playing, and said AND I QUOTE "Will, this game isn't making you want to go out and kill people, is it?"

I'll take a spot on the conservative side.

My mother told me I shouldn't get mass effect 'cause fox said it had sex in it, I hate fox and gave her examples of their crap, then I got it, didn't care for it much, but on topic fox creates uneducated people/stereotypes.
She worries about the sex but I'll bet 10 to 1 she lets you play violent games. When will America grow out of that mentality?
Yes she does, but I'm 15 and am going to join the marines in 3 years, I just think of it as practice, I know someone is going to call me on this, but I hope we're still in Afghanistan then, so I can see some action, I want to be a veteran, or die for my country like so many others have before me.
Sorry if this was already posted, but: I want you to remember that no bastard ever won a war by dying for his country. He won it by making the other poor, dumb bastard die for his country.
Yeah. I think we should put that one up as another quote in this list. Video games as practice for war? Reminds me of FPS Doug: "After all, war is just like Counterstrike, only you can't respawn right?" If you want to know anything about what Afghanistan really has in store for you, then read a book or speak to someone who has been there. From what I've heard about it, there's a good chance the "action" you seek will consist of marching in heavy clothes in the desert and getting shot or blown up before you get to even take aim. Remember, the enemies are guerillas. They won't engage you in a straight gunfight.

My friend said that World of Warcraft is more expansive than 3 different games combined.

Mom said that any game that portrays God as a lying, mischievous or hating person/entity is heresy against the religion of Christ.

Some gems from my mother.

"That looks rubbish, how much did that cost you?" (After seeing me playing Super Mario World via emulator.)

"Oh yeah right, like any gamers use words like 'obviate'." (During a cutscene in Fable 3.)

"Isn't that just the same as the other one?" (Whilst watching me play TF2.)

Heya, I've had some annoying comments in the past, but one I can remember recently is that I was a loser because I played Rock Band instead of learning how to play an actual guitar.

But here's something nice that could help stop some rageface on here, my mom is one of those few wonderful parents that (even if it's only a little bit) gets video games. If my siblings are running late on their chores/homework and she tells them to get to it, she will wait until they can save or pause first. She understands the sacredness of saves.
That's actually kinda beautiful *sniffle*

"Game are a waste of time."
"You play videogames? But you're a girl!"
"You have no social life because you play videogames."
"Most violent videogames cause crimes."

That's a few general ones. My friends usually make fun of each other. Basically we say something like "This person will become a stripper. And we all point at who we think will become a stripper. I usually get pointed at for the ones that say "no life," "die alone" and "have ten cats."

I'm also told I have back problems because I play games and use the computer too much, but because that is very likely, I don't argue with that.

And honestly? "Most violent games lead to crimes"? I guess we'll overlook how easily guns are acquired, or how much alcohol affects people. Let's target the thing most people love to do as a past-time.

But it seems retarded most of all to insult games when you've never PLAYED them. you don't even know the sensation of it. It sometimes feels like people are becoming more and more ignorant.
