Most overated games that have ever been produced??

What saddens me the most is the apparent illiteracy of so many newer members (as well as a few older ones).

Overrated and Over hyped do not mean a game is bad, it means that it was given more praise than it deserves and was made out to be better than it turned out to be.

GTA4 as far as I am concerned was a decent game.
It was still overrated because it did not deserve 10/10's across the board, the multiplayer was laggy, the weapons lacked in variety, they made close combat weapons useless (apparently cars are now impervious to baseball bats) and so on.

Halo:CE was deserving of all the praise it got I believe, Halo 2 deserved most of it and Halo 3, despite being a good game, was most definitely over-hyped and overrated.

It bugs me how everyone throws 'Halo' into a collective as well, remember that Halo:CE is now about 7 years old, it didn't have much competition as a console FPS at the time.

Bioshock. The ending disappointed me, and it was much shorter than they said it would be.

Most overrated would have to be Guild Wars. I just couldn't get into that game at all.

Biggest overhype of all time: Star Fox Adventures. Originally not supposed to be a star fox game (FOR GOOD REASONS) it added the element of fox without the space part (or have the space part be a very tiny piece of the game) and was hyped to oblivion. The game, first time through was kinda interesting as a "new" starfox game, but once you completed it, you looked back and thinked... "What the eff did I just play???"

You played a Zelda game disguised as a Star Fox game in a case of Nintendo whatthefuckery.

It was inferior in terms of gameplay, story, and characters. In my opinion of course.

My feelings exactly. Hopefully their next game will be more like Saints Row 2 or at least Chinatown Wars.

But while GTA4 is probably the most overhyped game of all time (outside of maybe SMB2 back in the day) it can't beat No More Heroes for the reward of most overrated game of all time: I'll never understand how such a crappy game got such high ratings.

Most overrated to me is Call of Duty 4 - as my friends never shut the hell up about how good it is and I've played it and believe me, I've seen it all before.
