Yeah I can definately understand what you mean, well if you are looking for remakes, twilight princess is nearly a remake of OoTHutchy_Bear said:It's just that I played some games like LoZ:OoT and FF7 for the first time years after they were released, i.e. when the 360 first came out. I just can't get into them as I can't look past some old problems that fans look past as they have the experience of playing it when it was first released and these problems didn't exist. (i.e. graphics, speech, cutscenes)jeiku said:I agree that Soul Calibre was a bit crap, but if I am honest (and im rather ashamed to say) if i were ever to defend a game it would be LoZ:OoT because even by todays standards its still a good and solid gameHutchy_Bear said:I don't think Soul Caliber was overated - it was shit but I don't think enough people cared about the game. Hmmm I would say LoZ OoT but I only played it for about an hour before I got bored (note I played it years after it came out).
That's why I hope they remake some of these games just with improved graphics etc.
Thank you for your inpt but i'd just like to remind that I said "over-hyped and over-rated, i never said they were the same thingFoolKiller said:Well, first I would like to point out that over-hyped and over-rated are two completely different things.
Over-rated are too numerous to go into.
In the over-hyped category I will start by putting forth a couple of Xbox launch games.
First off, Halo. The weapons were unimaginative and were horribly unbalanced. Killing someone across a great distance with the shotgun is not realistic. Neither was the ridiculous dominance of the handgun.
Secondly, Project Gotham Racing. They kept showing off how pretty the game is and the realistic damage the cars had. Unfortunately I had already played the game when it was a Dreamcast game called Metropolis Street Racer. The Kudos System was one of the most broken systems of scoring I have seen in a racing game.
Now on to PS2. Have to be fair after all. The most over-hyped on that platform had to be Final Fantasy X. For a successor to FFIX, it was terrible. The gameplay was linear. Sure it had pretty graphics but the fun part of a Final Fantasy is the exploration of the world. This had none.
But the perennial winner of the most over-hyped has to be EA Sports lineups, especially Madden. Every few years, they change something that impresses the reviewers but generally it is the same game with new rosters each and every year and yet they boast of how much better the game is.
Thank you for your' concern but I am completely aware of what over-hyped and over-rated mean, if you are referring to my choice of soul calibre then I would like to point out that the game itself praises its "innovative fighting-mechanic" and did not live upto this standard,it is over-rated, It also was advertised as more amazing than it actually was because of the mere presence of star wars characters, it is over-hyped.Machines Are Us said:What saddens me the most is the apparent illiteracy of so many newer members (as well as a few older ones).
Overrated and Over hyped do not mean a game is bad, it means that it was given more praise than it deserves and was made out to be better than it turned out to be.
GTA4 as far as I am concerned was a decent game.
It was still overrated because it did not deserve 10/10's across the board, the multiplayer was laggy, the weapons lacked in variety, they made close combat weapons useless (apparently cars are now impervious to baseball bats) and so on.
Halo:CE was deserving of all the praise it got I believe, Halo 2 deserved most of it and Halo 3, despite being a good game, was most definitely over-hyped and overrated.
It bugs me how everyone throws 'Halo' into a collective as well, remember that Halo:CE is now about 7 years old, it didn't have much competition as a console FPS at the time.
This guys has probably made the most sense out of anyone in this thread. People who say games were "Bad" are not actually on topic to this thread. An overhyped or overrated game does mean that the game was given more praise than it actually deserved.Machines Are Us said:-snip-
Ok, you may think this is you being self-righteous but you appear to be one of the newest people on this thread, far newer than Jeiku, and you cannot say it's a 'scourge to the site' when it seems like it's only you with the problems. So Vrex, welcome to The EscapistVrex360 said:Sorry, OP I don't blame you, really I can see you are new here it's just 'what game is overrated' threads are a real scourge on this site and need to be removed. So I am not aiming this at you, by any means. I hope to see more of you and welcome to the escapist by all means, in all fairness I'll answer your post with the game Far Cry 2 because I found it boring as all hell. Uninspired, uninteresting, confusing and boring. But the thing is, that doesn't make it so, that's just my opinion. I cannot prove that.
I apologise in advance if this seems too mean, but I really had to speak my mind. Welcome to the Escapist, I mean that sincerly.

Counter-Strike. That's the worst game I have ever played with.
I find it slightly odd that I did not quote you and yet you make out like I was implying that you do not know the meaning of a word.jeiku said:Thank you for your' concern but I am completely aware of what over-hyped and over-rated mean, if you are referring to my choice of soul calibre then I would like to point out that the game itself praises its "innovative fighting-mechanic" and did not live upto this standard,it is over-rated, It also was advertised as more amazing than it actually was because of the mere presence of star wars characters, it is over-hyped.Machines Are Us said:What saddens me the most is the apparent illiteracy of so many newer members (as well as a few older ones).

For instance: In the case of FABLE, we were promised all sorts of choices and a big world to explore, we were got were a couple of good and bad choices and a very linear world.
I'm honestly surprised no one has mentioned Fable, it was the first to pop into my mind. Instead it seemed as if everyone hopped onto the Halo hate wagon.
In all honesty, Halo1 fully lived up to it's hype on the console. (I say console because it was the biggest FPS on xbox.)
Halo 3 on the other hand... definetly overhyped.
Why was Gears of War mentioned? Not to step on any toes, I was just wondering.
Ah I apologise, its because there has been a variety of similar comments to yours which have directly targeted me, I am slightly shocked at the reactions of some people over what is nothing more than a query on my part.Machines Are Us said:I find it slightly odd that I did not quote you and yet you make out like I was implying that you do not know the meaning of a word.jeiku said:Thank you for your' concern but I am completely aware of what over-hyped and over-rated mean, if you are referring to my choice of soul calibre then I would like to point out that the game itself praises its "innovative fighting-mechanic" and did not live upto this standard,it is over-rated, It also was advertised as more amazing than it actually was because of the mere presence of star wars characters, it is over-hyped.Machines Are Us said:What saddens me the most is the apparent illiteracy of so many newer members (as well as a few older ones).

I have no idea what you said and as such was making no direct criticism of your post, I was speaking generally for all the people who do not seem to understand the meaning.
