I have to agree with all of the 'Titanic' and 'Dark Knight' votes out there...neither were as good as everyone seems to believe they were. 'Monty Python's Holy Grail' is pretty overrated, too...which feels strange for me to type because I routinely say it's the best movie ever conceived. 'Twilight' is terrible, and the 'Star Wars' prequel trilogy is pretty lame. Every Will Ferrel movie ever made is overrated, as are 'Napoleon Dynamite' and 'Borat.' Finally, 'It's a Wonderful Life' sickens me. Picking just one movie out of those, the most overrated film in history is...

The Dark Knight.

I might get shot over this, but the Godfather and it's subsequent sequels. I was in high school, and all the faux "movie buffs" were always like, "you haven't seen it? It's the best movie ever." "It's like the perfect movie!" To that I refer you to my middle finger.

Oh and while I'm at it, "Monty Python and the Holy Grail" sucked. The black knight scene was funny, but the rest of the movie is crap. So, you know, suck on that.
You are right. I have to dress up like a mafia henchman and shoot you with a tommygun for that... And then I'll insult your father and mother with their smell, and animal-likeness, respectively ;)
....and good luck with that.
Damn, you're right. I don't own a proper mafia-like hat... *Sadface*
well you best get on that. You can get a decent fedora for like 20 bucks.

The Dark Knight, particularly regarding Heath Ledger's performance as the Joker. It was by no means a bad movie. It was actually pretty good; just nowhere near as good as Batman begins and hardly the amazing film that people were making it out to be.

As for Ledger as the Joker, he was depressingly bland. The Joker had no personality or charisma, he was just a garden variety villain; and the nasally voice Ledger gave him kept ruining whatever shred of the real Joker I saw in him. This is supposed to be the definitive Joker that everyone talked about? I've seen almost every incarnation of the Joker: in the comics (under various writers), in the Adam West series, Jack Nicholson's portrayal, the 90s animated series, etc. Out of all of those, Ledger's version was the first I'd seen that would just be any other criminal if he didn't have the makeup and scars.
^That.
Sure, it was a great movie, and I saw it 3 times before it left theaters, but Ledger's Joker just wasn't as good as previous incarnations.

I thought that No Country For Old Men was alright (I'll give it credit for the cinematography) but by no means a massive oscar-winner.

The Godfather probably is overrated. In fact, how can it not be when its reputation is that its the 'perfect' movie? Still a damn brilliant film and if you find the film boring, then the chances are you're approaching it the wrong way. I'd say the same about There Will Be Blood. I don't mean to be a snobby 'if you don't like it you just didn't understand it' kinda guy but I don't like to see those films slighted.

I never really saw the big deal about The Usual Suspects. Its a decent film but nothing spectacular imo.

I enjoyed the Dark Knight but its nowhere near as good as its fanbase and imdb would have you believe.

The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions were pretty bad, as well. After how philosophical and interesting the first one was, making it become an action movie whose main focus seemed to be Neo's super powers was a huge let down for me.

The main problem with Titanic is that the sinking took about an hour and a half. Overrated? The Dark Knight. One of the best movies, EVAR, but way too much publicity. Even at armani magazines.

There Will Be Blood. It was so long and so boring. It was like watching a documentary only I wasn't learning anything.
I agree completely. The end was pretty cool, but by that point in the movie I just didn't care what was happening anymore. Hated that movie.

It's a toss-up between Armageddon and Matrix Reloaded - I spent both laughing my butt off at the unbelievable stupidity happening on-screen.

The Dark Knight is potentially a candidate, now I actually genuienly agree with the praise Heath Ledger got as the Joker, I honestly thought he was really good. The portrayl was deep and there were various sides to his character and his very dark and evil nature did help me warm to him. I honestly think this is the best incarnation of the Joker I've ever seen.
Someone once noted that if you go by the three major Joker roles they all gradually got darker. First the was Ceaser Romaro's Joker who was giggly campy and over the top, then came Jack Nicholson's Joker who was wacky fun with just a little darkness added and finally there was Heath's who was of course pure evil, with just a little wackiness added.

However... that in mind, I still don't quite understand why this movie got SOO much praise, it was good but Christ it wasn't amazing.

No sir I think my number one overatted movie has to go to the entire franchise of films that have the word 'Movie' in the title. Don't act like you didn't see this coming, cheap mediocre shitty catastophes that don't deserve a screening but somehow make millions of dollors at the box office. The people who watch this shite should feel ashamed.

FYI I loved the Watchmen. And V for Vendetta is my ninth favourite movie of all time.

You very politely although not so succinctly implied that people who don't like the Godfather or There Will Be Blood are wrong for not liking those movies. And before you hit me up for saying that you didn't "say" that, you very much meant for us to draw that inference. I've watched both of those movies multiple times. While I didn't "hate" there will be blood, I can certainly agree to it's overrated-ness. And the Godfather flicks straight up don't do it for me. And if you don't mean to be a "snobby 'if you don't like it then you don't understand it'" type, then why did you flat out say "then the chances are you're approaching it the wrong way"? I'm sorry, but that is snobby, no two ways about it. I've given the Godfather multiple chances to "grow" on me. I've kept an open mind, and I still think it's long, drawn out, drivel that Mario Puzo intelligently capitalized on. Of course thats my OPINION and I don't think anyone is wrong for not feeling the way I do. See what I did there? I stated my opinion and post scripted that I don't take it personally if they happen to like it.

Titanic easily, 11 oscars and a worldwide boxoffice of $1,8 billion for that piece of crap?
Agreed. It sucked.
I completely agree.
Oh tell me you didn't shed a tear when Leo died. "Never let go..."

Actually that was Batman begins not TDK.
I think Arsen was saying Begins is greater than TDK.

I'm going to agree with those who said Dark Knight. Also, Gladiator. Don't get me wrong, both were very good movies, but no where near as good as many people make them out to be.
Oops, silly me.
still hearing that bender voice lol

dragon ball z movie...~live action~ it wasnt overrated but its fucking terrible...and i only saw the trailer when i was waiting to watch a GREAT movie...the watchmen >=]

That along with Blair Witch Project.
Ooo, good call! I remember going to see it in the theater and half way through, my friend Erin leans over and says, "I have to leave-- this shaky camera shit is making me nauseated." I thought she was kidding, but she got up and said, "no, really; I'm going to puke if we don't get out of here."

Plus, you kinda want to punch them in the face for being indirectly responsible for all those crappy Blair WItch games.
