Most overrated games of the current gaming era

I would say any Gears of War or Halo game. I suppose that's not fair for me to say since I've never actually played any of these games, but they'd have be super miracle games that could cure you of all ailments just by you playing them before I'd believe they're worthy of the hype they get.
I'm pretty sure what one conceives as a waste of money, others praise for being "different".

Halo 3, Metal Gear Solid 4, Gears of War 2, Mirrors Edge, Devil May Cry 4, Grand Theft Auto 4, Resident Evil 5....... Christ this goes on forever doesn't it. You might notice that most of these are sequels which adds to their overratednes since they all had past games that were somewhat good and are using nostalgia to sucker in some nerds (I stand among them).
Final Fantasy 7. Lesse, we have horrible story with tooting music.
Choppy frame-rates during action sequences? You bet!
Poorly thought out characters that carried on the same old trappings every other JRPG has ever used before and since? Uh-huh!
How about those graphics? What's that you say? you love it when a ridiculously low-polygon character resembling a Legoland toy shuffles along on a backdrop that looks like a post card? How bloody friggin immersively brilliant!
I can not, to this day, understand why this game is remembered so fondly.

Half-life can't be as over-hyped as Halo 3. I mean yes I'm a VALVe fan but still I was once over at a friends how and his father was watching baseball and it said on one of the hobbies was "Playing Halo 3" I mean it had it's own drink and now it's getting a movie deal and an anime series not to mention all of the books and threads on how it's so cool. I saw the commercials and thought the graphics would be great, but you know what I got? I got a game that could'nt keep it's mouth shut, a some what bad story, and almost every game stereotype there was: the black guy dies, your enemy becomes your friend, you save the love intrest which turns out to be just a computer I mean sheesh.... wow a paragraph?
The graphics sucked because it was a big game, with PSOne limitations, and Square's first fully 3D game. Shut the hell up about graphics, they really aren't that important when analyzing a game. By the by, the thread is about games in this generation. How 'bout you learn to read and come back when you can contribute correctly?Icehearted said:

Halo 3 - It was good but I let the hype get to me and as I had fond memories of 1 and 2 I was expecting more than it was.
Gears of War 2 - I bought into the hype and only after a month or two realised all they took away.
