Halo 2 hands down. Followed by Halo 3.
I was majorly disappointed when Halo 2 was released. Cliffhangers make me want to punch things. I was getting all excited, about to gear up for a couple more hours of gameplay and bam! credits.
Plus the Arbiter. I was overjoyed to hear I was playing as an Elite. I thought I'd get to see the Human-Covenant War from their perspective. Maybe find out more about this "Great Journey". Nope. Now I'm some kind of suicide king bout to kill more...Covenant. Whoopty fricking doo. They look a little different from me and they have a different belief but they're the same bad guys. Plus I liked my Elites not speaking english and my grunts having more intelligence behind their funny little sayings. ("Want more tin man!?" > [Anything uttered by a grunt in every Halo game after CE])
And then the Brutes. Yay!!!...fricking gorillas in space. And they don't like the Elites. And when they get enraged, they drop their weapons and CHARGE. I liked the Brute Shot though. That was probably the coolest thing to come out of Halo 2. Shoot, they even made the Hunters look less scary. Although, kudos to letting them swing at you when you're behind them. That scared the bejesus out me the first time I ran into that.
And Halo 3? I hate the difficulty curve. I get about halfway through the game, walking on them like, y'know, S-117 and suddenly I can't fight my way out of a paper sack!
----
The Half Life series. I kind of enjoyed the original Half Life but not enough to finish it. I liked the little offshoots more, the ones where you can play as a security guard or as a merc. (Noticing a trend here? I like different viewpoints on the same events.)
