That good ol' thread where we all line up to imply that people shouldn't be enjoying something that we don't enjoy.

What fun.

Out of all the games I would consider overrated, Halo takes the cake. Unless there's some big quality difference between the Xbox and PC version (I have the latter) I don't get the hype for a series. It's the definition of a generic shooter that doesn't have the curtsy to act like a parody it should be. The multiplayer? It was alright, nothing worth building a fan base around. I tried the Reach demo for 360 and it was boring as hell.

KOTOR is very overrated.
The gameplay is quite bad, but it's got lightsabers, so fans don't notice how stupidly easy it is.

The Legend of Zelda OOT : yes it's a fantastic game, however it's NOT the best game of all time, especially if the later Zelda games are superior.

Super Mario Galaxy: to me it's not nearly as good as Super Mario Sunshine, the levels are not huge and do not allow exploration as much as 64 and Sunshine (did not play SMG2 though)

Resident Evil Franchise: lame gameplay mixed with the most -So bad it's funny- kind of story in gaming history.

Doom 3: Zzzzzz
There haven't been any Zelda games better than Ocarina. The best attempt at making one as good as OoT was Twilight Princess, and that was made entirely out of nostalgia for Twilight Princess because the fanboys wouldn't stop bitching about Wind Waker's "baby graphics".

I think any Call of Duty game past 4 is overrated.
What this gentleman here said.
When I saw modern warfare 3 was coming out, I went to the store to buy a noose for my already broken xbox 360 so it doesn't have the misfortune to play yet another let down.

FF7.

Still a good game, just nnnnnnnnnnoooooottttttttt that fond of it. Don't understand the super hype it still has. Oh and if you say i didn't try? I got my characters to level 97 and killed ruby AND emerald.

And other than listing old games i don... Devil may cry. I ono after God of War and being able to block then going back to dmc i was like wut.

But other than listing super old games i don't but new games that i either A: haven't researched or B: wasn't interested in.

I mean i played portal 2... and i can understand why everyone fucking goes bananas over it. But the first was much better

Braid
I really do't get it.
I love artsy games like Limbo and stuff, but Braid just bores me to tears.

Personally, I think Morrowind and the Portal games. Not that they're bad, they've just been ruined for me by all the hype by EVERYONE saying how awesome they are.
I have the exact same problem, except backwards. Some games are ruined for me when other people DON'T like them. Call me shallow, but thats how my mind works. :-/

Agreed. I bought the first one on Steam a couple of weeks ago. I got really bored with it pretty fast. I think i've only gotten 2 hours into the game before I stopped playing it.

Personally every Call of Duty game after the first Modern Warfare is very overrated. I also find the Portal games way overrated. The games are good, but not as good as many people on the internet say it is.

Because of same logic I've almost missed Heroes of Might and Magic in late 90-es. Recommend begin fighting this. The only indicator of game to be hated - is that you begin to hate it while playing.
WOAH WOAH WOAH WOAH WOAH WOAH

WOAH

You mean people hyped Heroes of Might and Magic... or Might and Magic in general? Holy shitting dick tits. I loved HoM&M 3 as a kid and M&M 6 and 7 were fucking bomb diggity... if only i could find the disks. /sigh

Really? Original 3 Resident evils are like my favorite games of all tine. I never heard alot of praise for them even in the 90s so dont know how its overrated.

As for the OP.

Psychonauts. Just my god i've never heard so much praise for an awful game that was just horrid, am still bitter for spending 60$ for it.

Shadow of the colossus. Such an idiotic plot and boring game play and its praised as art. Ya sure.... sigh...

Half life 2. Just awful it was bad back in the day and when i tried to play it again with the release of the orange box it was still just bad.

Portal. Pretty much what i said for Psychonauts minus the 60$ and amplify the praise.

I always meet people who say Majora's Mask was one of the worst. I think it was a great game but way to different to be compared to OoT.

half life 2 was not that good(but I have not played the hole game, my friends says that it will get better later in, so it maybe not fair to say it is bad, but I get bored every time I try to play it so iI say that it is bad anyway. )
Compared to dragon age origins, dragon age 2 was really overrated( DA:O was grate, but DA2 was barely worth my money)

I'm gonna have to go with Bioshock.

Don't get me wrong here, it's a good game. I did, in fact, enjoy it. But I really don't think it deserves the credit that it gets.

I've said it before on these forums, and I'm sure I'll say it again from time to time, but I love the System Shock games. Probably to an unhealthy degree. When I was playing through Bioshock I couldn't help but constantly feel like I was playing through a graphically advanced, but severely watered-down, version of System Shock 2.

It's like they took System Shock 2, took everything awesome about it, and in trying to refine those things, somehow managed to make them worse. Words can't even describe how much a single playthrough of Bioshock made me hate Pipe Dream, whereas dozens of playthroughs of System Shock 2 didn't inspire any real hate at all for hacking (even while being harder than Bioshock hacking).

Literally the only thing I felt that Bioshock did better than System Shock 2 was getting rid of weapon degredation. That's really about it.

Bioshock was still a good game, I still had fun with it, and I don't regret spending the money or time on it at all. But it makes me really sad to see how huge of a fanbase it got, while System Shock (both games) got just as much critical aclaim... but little more than a cult fanbase. It's kind of a pity.

Portal. The only thing that struck me as "great" about it was how great it was at giving me motion sickness. Not saying it's a bad game - it just isn't that great. The puzzles are too easy and it's not really all that funny. It's still a pretty good game, but I'm just bewildered as to why people keep calling it one of the greatest games ever.

And, well... the motion sickness didn't exactly help me appreciate it more...
