most overrated games

I generally just avoid games I think don't look any good, so I've never been too concerned about whether or not a game was overrated. However if there were somebody standing next to me with a gun to my head I'd have to say the Call of Duty games after Modern Warfare. I got MW2 and basically just put it away, and when I received a free copy of Black Ops a couple weeks ago I immediately turned around and traded it in for some store credit at EB. I just don't like the gameplay. Even the single-player doesn't really hold up for me anymore.

Wow, you must REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEALLY hate it. Like, worse than Superman 64 hate. Or else you mistook "overhyped" for "overrated".

OT: Bioshock. It wasn't any fun, and my choice of playstyle resulted in me playing "Tubez" for hours.

GTA 4.

It controlled horribly and just felt bland. Now, I was playing on the PC with keyboard and mouse so that may have led to my disappointment. But after a few hours of play, I just installed Vice City again and had a much more enjoyable time.

Personally, I think Morrowind and the Portal games. Not that they're bad, they've just been ruined for me by all the hype by EVERYONE saying how awesome they are.
Because of same logic I've almost missed Heroes of Might and Magic in late 90-es. Recommend begin fighting this. The only indicator of game to be hated - is that you begin to hate it while playing.

My own position on the topic - ALL the CoD and Battlefield series. They're awfully uninteresting for me and I cannot get it, why do everyone love them so much? They're BORING!

I think people only like the multiplayer. Singleplayer in those games is laughably bad.

GTA IV for sure. Its a good game, but definitely not a 10. Maybe more like a 9.

Other than that, I'd say Prototype and Fable III. Any score over a 50 for those games is overrating. If Duke Nukem's a 48, those 2 should be in the 30s. Those games are garbage... In my opinion of course :p

I would say Fallout 3. All my friends said that it was fantastic and how atmospheric it is, etc. I bought it cheap and sat down and tried to play it, but I just got bored with it after about 20 minutes and moved on to other things. At some point, when I have a bit more time, I will try and give it another shot, but at the moment I just don't have that time to invest, and Fallout 3 seems like a huge time sink.

PSone-era Final Fantasy games and every installment to follow.
In all fairness, I LOVE FInal Fantasy VII, and Final Fantasy IX looks really good, but I hate how the fandom surrounding these games overshadows IV, V, and (the best in the series) VI.
I wouldn't say fandom, I would argue those who haven't played before VII (which is a lot of people) would say that, I have had the opportunity to play before VII via the remakes, on game boy advanced. I do look forward to (or to someone enlightening me) to a remake of VI.

The Path, Bethesada games (they're alright, but the only one I'd actually consider as good as the hype is Morrowind), pretty much any non-tactical FPS in a realistic setting, and Fable.
The Path isn't really a game though, it's more of an art piece that kind of resembles a game.

For me, probably any FPS after, and including Halo. I personally think the 2 weapons and tiny regenerating health with maps made of corrdiors filled with chest high walls BS is a cancer on the genre. Love me some Painkiller, TF2, and co-op Serious Sam though.

I'd be more inclined to call The Path a game that resembles something from hot topic :)

I actually thought fable was pretty underrated if you here from anyone except Peter Molyneux.

Orange Box.
No fun with any of the half life games, Portal was good but short and the game went from puzzle game to puzzle and 'reaction' game, and team fortress 2 got extremely boring with its 4 maps/ game types.

There was already a remake for FF VI on the PS1.

Slightly off topic. Please use the search bar this thread has been done before so many times.

OT: FFVI and FFIX have become fairly over rated and too often praised as the best FFs in recent years on forums. This is part way to do with the fallout of FFVII being the best(no FF is the best) which for some reason justifies people flat our saying a certain FF is the best and then HAVING TO MENTION like it is some sort of unwritten law is better than FFVII. It gets on my fucking tits.

Elder Scrolls series
Fallout series
Grand Theft Auto series
Half-Life 2 (the most overrated of all-time)
The Witcher 2
Portal 1 and 2

None of those games are bad, not by any stretch of the imagination. They all get praise that they really don't deserve though. Most of them are simply "meh" to me.

i hate this kind of thread, they turn into bitching about popular games just for the sake of bitching.

OT: Bioshock felt a bit stretched after killing ryan. And i never got how Ocarina of time is the best rated game ever but that may have something to do with me playing it 10 years after release.
