Had to be when someone I knew tried to make me pay for his copy of psychonauts because *ahem* "I claimed it had a great storyline and was very fun but was really a piece of shit game with cartoon graphics and was made for 4-year olds" *quietly builds up inner rage*

um, the Birdo gender debate?

I think we should just believe that Nintendo is being inconsistant with weather the egg-spitter's a man who likes to cross dress or actually a girl.

Good God, where do I begin?

1. Console wars.
2. Media people who have never touched video games slagging them of as child-corrupting machines that should be banned, often without even asking gamers for their opinion or, when they do, only showing extreme examples and not the average calm individual who plays certain FPS games to unwind and remain unaffected by them.
3. Console vs. PC.
4. Pretty much any argument over something in-game that they treat like real-life like the humans vs. elites mentioned.
5. Fanboys who can't accept that the other game/console/PC is good in areas other than the game/console/PC they're supporting and an actual X > Y is very rare.

"PCs are shit cuz consoles are built for gamez so thats wat u shud play then on lul."

Perhaps the most glaringly idiotic example I've heard, a part from the myth that PCs break every 5 seconds, get riddled with viruses and can't run anything apart from minesweeper. Oh, and that they cost 2 grand each.

Funnily enough someone on this site said pretty much the same as what I said at the start, although to their credit it was far more literate.

Oh and the whole "PC gaming is dying" and "I prefer consoles because it just works" crap...
The second argument has some validity. I myself use my console more because I don't need to worry about compatibility issues, driver updates, and install times.

"Books > Videogames in every damn way."

I had this argument today in school, with me saying videogames are superior in ways. I was stubborn, so she eventually gave up what eventually became an hour long debate. But both parties lose for being in such a subjective argument.

99% of arguments seem to stem from the problem that people are unable to distinguish between fact and opinion...

EDIT: And the most ridiculous I've heard would have to be the constant argument around PC vs Mac - they're both good, for different reasons. I myself like playing games and don't need 'productivity tools' so I prefer the PC, while I have a friend who likes to use his MacBook for DJ'ing. At least our arguments have gotten more lighthearted :p

EDIT EDIT: And I liked Fable, and don't care what the people who take Yahtzee way too seriously think. So there!
I too liked Fable, though I was disappointed that it didn't contain half of what Peter Molyneuax had promised in the prerelease interviews and such.

OT: I've heard someone arguing about the fact that they played Mario on a PS3 or 360. That's not really possible in any legal way.

However, when someone makes the "it just works" argument and they own a 360 I just say "RROD". Admittedly, the RROD is getting rarer in newer models, but the fact that Microsoft shipped out tons of systems with a serious hardware problem just makes me laugh.

Compatibility issues aren't exactly a big issue. Maybe hardware specifications perhaps, but then one could argue you wouldn't try to run a PS3 game on a PS2 would you? as for driver updates, check like once a month or 2... no big effort, consoles have to run OS updates about as regular as that. Install times... have you ever tried Metal Gear Solid 4?

Every console vs console debate ever, including PC vs console.

C'mon guys. I'm a vet from the "Sega Genesis vs. Super Nintendo" war. Have we really not thought up any new approaches to bashing each other's preferences in the last decade or two?

I think the argument lies in that most console games are just put in and play, while some, such as MGS4, require install, though MGS4 was enough like a movie the install times are understandable.

I think one argument that is ridiculous is the PC vs Console argument, through absolute ignorance on both sides.

On the console side, the biggest one is ignorance over hardware pricing. Sure, there are multi-thousand dollar rigs out there, but nine times out of ten, its an Alienware rig, or an other likewise purpose-built machine using only top of the line equipment. I'm running games on a Sony Vaio laptop that cost me about $950, and I can run all of my games fine. Viruses aren't an issue as long as you regularly maintain a decent anti-virus program and practice safe surfing. The hardware specs and compatibility argument holds some water though, as with consoles it isn't an issue, I can buy any game for my PS3 and know it will work, whereas the same can't necessarily be said of computers if you're unaware of how to check your hardware specs, though it is not difficult to find them and once you know, you'll be in the clear.

On the PC side, the biggest problem here is inability to relate. While it may not be hard for you to build your own computer and upgrade hardware yourself, for some people, this is still an alien concept. This tends to start coming off as elitism because PC owners can't/won't see that some console owners have no idea how the inside of a computer works. It's no different then when someone who knows cars inside out talks about building their own car. If it's something you're in no way familiar with, but the car enthusiast starts talking about it like you might be an absolute tard for not knowing how to do it, it gets rather aggravating. Another problem is the whole mouse/control pad thing. Some people like using the control pad, as alien of a thing as that might sound to some, and statements like "I don't see how anyone could use the control pad" are going to get you flamed and called various unpleasantries.

I have had far more hardware problems with my PC than with my 360. I ain't saying they are perfect but for me it renders the RROD argument rather invalid. (to me only though)

Nope I play the 360. No install times, and I have never bought a game, and not had it work. I have with my PC.

Console arguments when the people aruging have no fucking clue what they're talking about.

I have to deal with this alot at school and being a man of many consoles forces me to correct most of these uneducated fuckwads at my school.

I backhand anyone I know who says Halo, CoD or Gears are the best games ever.
