I despise the argument that you can't be a hardcore gamer if you don't play constantly and therefore must be a casual gamer into things like cooking mama. I love my final fantasy, zelda, resident evil *list goes on* but I don't have time to play them all the time and sometimes a quick game is all I want (hence why I love Brawl). Excuse me for doing things besides video games.

I'm really suprised how common it is. Frankly, I find the harder it tries to look good the more glaring the flaws are (except with Uncharted 2 and Demon's Soul. I mean, holy fuck.) In a lot of games I find the backgrounds done fairly well but character models don't match the quality. That and edges never look smooth.

My favourite recently is a beautiful bit of lunacy where a guy on my team playing Halo 3 was constantly berating me for being an elite and accusing me of trying to 'wipe out humanity' and that I was 'a split faced son of a ***** unworthy to live' and that he 'couldn't wait to genocide my entire race because humanity will own your scaly asses'. I've already mentioned it before but this guy seemed to really think the Halo war actually happened and therefore I can think of no argument more crazy then that one.

I mean come on, like humanity would have a chance against the elites....
This has probably been pointed out, but they were probably joking. I do this kind of stuff all the time, one time choosing Elite and then complaining how I was a filthy alien and not able to be a noble human. Good times.

Stupidest argument I ever had:
"...and I say that Lavos has to exist outside of time, because when you defeat him, he is defeated in all times."
"Of course he's not dead at all times, he comes back in Crono Cross!"
"Yeah, like you understand HALF of what's going on in Crono Cross!"

I think one argument that is ridiculous is the PC vs Console argument, through absolute ignorance on both sides.

On the console side, the biggest one is ignorance over hardware pricing. Sure, there are multi-thousand dollar rigs out there, but nine times out of ten, its an Alienware rig, or an other likewise purpose-built machine using only top of the line equipment. I'm running games on a Sony Vaio laptop that cost me about $950, and I can run all of my games fine. Viruses aren't an issue as long as you regularly maintain a decent anti-virus program and practice safe surfing. The hardware specs and compatibility argument holds some water though, as with consoles it isn't an issue, I can buy any game for my PS3 and know it will work, whereas the same can't necessarily be said of computers if you're unaware of how to check your hardware specs, though it is not difficult to find them and once you know, you'll be in the clear.

On the PC side, the biggest problem here is inability to relate. While it may not be hard for you to build your own computer and upgrade hardware yourself, for some people, this is still an alien concept. This tends to start coming off as elitism because PC owners can't/won't see that some console owners have no idea how the inside of a computer works. It's no different then when someone who knows cars inside out talks about building their own car. If it's something you're in no way familiar with, but the car enthusiast starts talking about it like you might be an absolute tard for not knowing how to do it, it gets rather aggravating. Another problem is the whole mouse/control pad thing. Some people like using the control pad, as alien of a thing as that might sound to some, and statements like "I don't see how anyone could use the control pad" are going to get you flamed and called various unpleasantries.
I'm a long-time PC gamer, but I've never had the money to get a good gaming rig. Lately, I don't have the time or money to make a good gaming PC, and to tell the truth, I wouldn't even know where to start anymore.

Eggman VS Dr.Robotnik Debate

Sonic Fans: This has got to stop. Why do some people call him 'Eggman' anyway? WHY? How does this even exist? The man uses robots so why not keep his original title of Dr. Robotnik?
While I agree the argument is ridiculous, I do know WHY it happens. His original title wasn't Robotnik, it was Eggman. When the game was translated to English, SEGA of America changed his name to Robotnik. That is where the debate really started.

Alright I think I can safely bet my future first born that everyone hear likes video games, right? We all have different tastes, favorite characters, levels we hate, best weapons, annoying sidekicks, blah, blah, and more blah.

Now we all know of video game arguments. I mean arguments about video game characters, levels, items, story, gameplay, and other aspects of a video game or franchise that are just so utterly pointless and stupid to hear. I mean one mention of a certain topic will send forums or friendly chats into a blazing flame war of fanboyism that should honestly go make-out with a gun barrel.

So hear is the thread: What is the Most Ridiculous Video Game-Related Argument you've ever heard?

Now I'm gonna be light-hearted and post an old argument that annoys me more than Navi with a mega phone.

Eggman VS Dr.Robotnik Debate

Sonic Fans: This has got to stop. Why do some people call him 'Eggman' anyway? WHY? How does this even exist? The man uses robots so why not keep his original title of Dr. Robotnik? This is the question one side asks while the other side refuses to keep the name and opts for 'Eggman.' It was funny at first, but now its annoying. Can't we just pick a name for this villain and keep it? Why not argue about ways you can save your favorite Blue Hedgehog franchise from going the way of Old Yeller (which is increasingly preferred amongst the majority of gamers).

Anyway, lets hear them.
I'm not into Sonic, but the villain's original Japanese name was Eggman. It's like in Mario with Peach. NA called her Toadstool, but soon reverted to the original Japnese name because people realised how stupid the name Toadstool was.

Hardcore Vs. Casuals concerning MMORPGs,the most successful one being World of Warcraft. Holy shit you could write several books about it.

Oh yeah, there were (and still are to this day) Halo Vs. Halflife arguements, which i admit, did chip in in favor of Halflife about four years ago. But this is the internet, and all of us can be absolved of our sins in a few clicks of a button.

I once got into an argument with my friend about whether PC controls or Console controls are more realistic for first person shooters...Needless to say one of the dumbest arguments I've ever been in...

"Video games make you addicted"
Everything related or similar is bullshit, and people should look up the word Addicted, because i don't think it means what they think it means.
I think you might want to look it up yourself. People can get addicted to video games, just like they can be addicted to gambling or sex. You don't need to put chemicals into your body to be addicted. My brother has a gaming addiction and it's serious stuff. He's a damn wreck, he spends just about his whole life playing games... he has no job, barely eats, and barely sleeps. Take him away from his games, and he gets anxious... miserable if he has to go for more than a few hours. The only reason he has a roof over his head is because he gets government money (which he spends on four things: rent, bills, food, and games... NOTHING ELSE). That's an addiction, and I'm just glad he's not addicted to something worse. You can look it up. I'd suggest looking it up in the DSM-IV, not just the dictionary. He was even diagnosed with it, and then fired the shrink who did it because he's still in denial, and says something similar to what you did when he's confronted with it.

Also, people have dropped dead playing MMOs obsessively.

I think being passionate enough about gaming to post on these forums pretty much cancels out any chance of you being a casual gamer.

"Sephiroth could too kick Clouds ass!"

"Halo is the best first person shooter in the world!"

"Resistance is much more better than Gears of War!"

Those are some of my favorite, I love to read flame war posts, usually it makes my life seem more important, and that's pretty bad considering most of the time I'm just sitting in this chair, browsing the net.

Oh and another one my friend keeps trying to Assassin's Creed has a great storyline whereas it probly would if was not done in the fucking matrix, I mean come on a guy lays down on a bed and is put in a virtual world where he can do pretty much anything from climbing a wall like spider-man to leaping from a shear cliff and landing in a bail of hay and walking away like it was nothing.
Assassin's Creed's plot is the ilicit lovechild of The Matrix and The X-Files. :p

I remember seeing a post from someone that said that Halo was the first good FPS on a console (any console). That its control scheme was revolutionary, and that was why it was sucessful. That it was the first FPS with a limited inventory. And finally that it was the first FPS that was popular online.

Lets see if I can pull from memory... (Goldeneye/some time travling one on the PS2 who's name eludes me.) (the same PS2 title used an identical format a couple years earlier), (limited inventory was rare, but the System Shock titles and Deus Ex come to mind, I kinda think FAKK 2 had one, but I don't remember), and finally (FUCKING DOOM).

I forget, he might have said something about dual wielding, which gets a nod back to Marathon.

"Halo is a bad game in and of itself because it spawned the armored space marine thing."

"The Wii is a bad console because it's for casual gamers."

"The Wii is only for casual gamers."

The list goes on....

OH WAIT

I always find that I get into the argument with 12-14 year old Xbox owners.

"Console gaming just works"

4 words - Red Ring Of Death
Exactly. Besides, what are they typing comments on forums with? Oh yeah... a PC. How hard is it to just install a game for these people? I swear these people have trouble breathing while they eat.

"Oh PCs costs thousands"... that's another one that's pathetic and laughable. I hate it when technology illiterates pretend to know what they're talking about.
There's no denying that PC gaming is more expensive and more of a pain in the ass. The actual games are generally of a higher quality but configuration/compatibility issues can be annoying and they do not exist at all on consoles.

And I find easy to believe that a fuckin contard would strugle with installing a game onto a hard drive unless it had a big red 'press butan to install!!!' on the rig somewhere.

To contribute, the people that argue that you will ever make a decent FPS using any other control system than keyboard/mouse have the most ridculous argument.

Turn Based vs Real Time combat in RPGS(JRPGs especially). The Turn based people are called archaic dinosaurs and the Real timers are labeled as twitchy morons.

My favorite comment was that games like FF7 were superior because you could take the entire day to beat one of the bonus bosses. For the record I like both kinds of combat.

Also Rita/Estelle from Tales of Vesperia, though to be fair most pairing arguments can get pretty silly.

Finally there was a great one on Circle of The Moon's level design. People were telling this guy they loved CotM but he keep saying they should hate it for it's poor level design. I don't comment on things like that because I liked Portrait of Ruin and apparently that makes me a dumbass.
