Dawn Star from Jade Empire, because she has slender feminine arms but wide manly shoulders, making her look about as anatomically correct (and thus, about as aesthetically pleasing or desirable) as a four year old's stick figure.

I hated Kaiden Alenko from Mass Effect because my game got glitched so that whenever I went to a level up screen kaiden's face was superimposed over everyone elses. That was the reason I picked him to die over Ashley, and his face still wouldn't leave!
That fucking sucks dude, I hate Kaiden also. =-) Not for any reason like that, mostly because he was a fucking cry baby about how his L2 implants gave him headaches, and how his teachers were mean to him.
Do you know how many people with L2 implants have died or suffered crippling injuries. And those L2 biotics terrorist capture that alliance diplomat to demanded for many for all the suffered they have suffered by the same army they served.

His teacher was a Turian and this was the first time him and rest of young kids have meet a alien and their teacher was a fucking asshole. Being exposed to element zero in womb could have killed him. The Turian teacher beat the shit out of Kaiden and he even killed him with one blast of power.

A character I did not like was Hammer from Fable II she would stop talking about how dumb those teaching were and how he father wasted his life doing all of that.
I know all of that, and I do believe the title of the thread to be "Most stupid reason to hate a video game character." And it is a stupid reason for me to not like him, but I feel that even with a good back story like that he was still a poorly written character.

I hated Hammer too, she was irritating and just generally unlikeable. Now Reaper on the other hand, that guy was fucking awesome. =-)

Again the old 'I hate Halo therefore I hate Mastercheif' is a good example. I mean yes there is also the constant argument of 'he is bland and generic' but really considering he's hardly the FIRST uber powerful supersoldier nor is he going to be the LAST so to draw such anger on him seems unprecedented. I mean yes again there's the argument of 'he gets undeserved recognition' but he is what can be called a pop culture Icon, akin to others like Mario and Solid Snake, MC is just joining the party and becoming one of the big names too.

It just seems kind of wierd to ***** about a character guilty of no crime beyond that which many others have done before him.... being popular.

P.S also it must be said, my friends announced once that they hated the Arbiter (my preferred protagonist by the way) because he was an elite. They are very silly people as they fail to see the obvious superiority of the elites.

Stupid, stupid people
I hate MC because everyone worships him and he's not even that interesting, I mean he's an ok character but "My god" there is soooo many more interesting characters in gaming and this vacuous personality continues to win everyones favor.....>>

I haven't been this confused with someones celebrity status since Paris Hilton.

He's pretty much the male version of Samus Aran without tits.

The day he unmasks himself and it turns out it's Samus all all along is the day I'll start liking the guy...I mean girl, even with all the hype behind hi-her.

OH, and this is my good reason.....there is no stupid reason to hate MC...lol
On that topic, I'm curious why everybody loves Gordon Freeman so much. I mean yes the Chief dull, but Gordon literally has no personality. Wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if he turned out to be a robot.

OT: characters I hate? Well, I do hate Jack Carver since he seemed to be a whiny douchbag. And I always thought Duke Nukem was a little too hyper masculine, even for the nineties. I also hated the protagonist (can't remember name) of Timesplitters since he was a macho moron. I did think he fit very well with the games style, but that doesn't mean I can't think he's an idiot.

Superman from any game he has ever been. I just hate him because his so darn "American" (nothing against American people) with his American values and traditions (if you know what I mean). I know it sounds stupid but hey, that's why it's so fitting for the topic!
So it's not because all of his games have sucked epicly?

OT: Blind the Thief from A Link to the Past because...he likes disguising himself as little girls. (Spoiler? >_>)
Well that of course too BUT like the topic says "Most STUPID reason to hate a video game character". That means saying his games suck would be pretty GOOD reason to hate him. Hope you catched my drift.
Oh yeah...good point. You get a cookie for that.
Nom nom. Thanks for that.

I hated my followers in Black & White because they interfered with me exploring the world with my pacifist tiger. When my tiger got stolen, I spent my time throwing followers in a pit of doom and cackling as it gave me more powers. I succeeded in killing off every last one of them, which is when my save broke and the world was reduced to an uninhabited world with one sad little god looking around wondering where the other guy's villagers went. I never played the game again.

I hate Princess Ruto in LoZ: Ocarina of Time because I spent fifteen minutes trying to kill those bloody squid things before I finally found the scared little girl waiting to be rescued... Which is when she told me she refused to come along, and that I would have to carry her. But not out the exit. That'd be too easy.

I also hate Cecil from Final Fantasy I-don't-even-know-which. He was an awesome guy with a dark past and some nice powers to go with it. Sweet. Then he went all whiny and had to battle his sinful nature to become a suitably epic hero. Okay... Then he turned into a shiny blond girl.

But most of all I hate Shale from Dragon Age. I loved that golem to bits, taking it everywhere with me and rejoicing whenever I unlocked a bit of conversation with it. I laughed my head off when it smashed a chicken to death, and the party banter was just priceless. To boot, Shale was probably the most useful party member I had, replacing my trusty dog as my new Number One. Then a friend told me a "fun fact" (see also, MAJOR origin spoiler) about my beloved Shale. Now I can't look at it without thinking of what she told me and mentally screaming and crying how it isn't true. Ironically, if I'd been left to find out that piece of information by myself, I'd have loved the character even more. Now I find myself wishing for an epic level Cucco to come and leave Shale in the center of a smelly mount of bird poo.

...Cuccos are horrid too. Epona trampled one before I even saw they were there. I spent 10 minutes galloping around in panic, praying for them to get tired and leave me alone. They didn't.

Judging from premature reader reviews in the Gamespot and IGN forums, some people hate Bayonetta because she looks too much like Sarah Palin or because, apparenly, attractive female character(all in the eye of the beholder, really)=bad character/game and only ___(insert group that random person does not want to be associated here)would like her.

That's more absurd than people hating Carl Johnson because he's from the ghetto or they like Gangster more than 'Gangsta'...as if that is any better!

Let's see, a pointless gripe that I have with a character myself. If I have one, it's with Serge from Chrono Cross. CC is not the right game for a silent protagonist! He should really have spoken up for himself rather than let Kid speak for him or else, he should have ceded the hero role to someone more vocal.

I have no specific names but I have hated characters just for the way they look. Small things at that, like hair being too spikey, or using a stupid weapon. Hell, even the way they hold the weapon.

Queen Anora from Dragon Age.

Because

You try and rescue her, but when Ser Whats-her-name stops you and you say 'I'm just rescuing the Queen' Anora says that you've kidnapped her! Two-faced *****! I've never wanted to kill someone more in a game. To cap it all you have to help her afterwards! At least I got to kill her father and depose her. Still. *****.
Seconded.

Well, the thing is first of it's all thanks to Valve and their abilities to capture some of the best facial features I've ever seen in video games.

I mean characters in Valve games look like real people, a good reason for this is they use real people to base their characters facial features off of.

http://blogulate.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/10/real-half-life-2-characters-alyx.jpg

As for Gordon Freeman, he's just that mute character that everyone is curious to hear what he would have to say....and since he never does speak plus he looks like the average guy your personality ends up getting stapled on to who Gordon Freeman is.

And it's that reason the mind of Gordon Freeman is so popular on youtube....

Fuck you,Dad.

Also don't like Alyx. she's way too.... nice all the time.
Its hard to hate him, seeing how he was voiced by Liam Neeson. So, do you hate liam Neeson, well? do ya punk?
MASSIVE SNIP!
Yes yes I know that, it was suppose to be unrelated. Taken is one of my top movies, merely for Liam Neeson
Oh good. You just wouldn't have been the first is all...

The owner of the cab depot in GTA IV. Fat, greasy Eastern European prick [I'm a skinny, greasy Eastern European prick, so I'm not sure whether this counts as racism].

How about my friend. He hates Dom from Gears of War because he "is a crybaby, whiny, *****". I hate Celeste from Mirror's Edge because she always looks pissed, nevermind the whole betraying you stuff. Also, every character from L4D2, except Coach. The original cast was way cooler, IMO.
How the hell did you hate Ellis. WHAT THE HELL!
Also, the original cast was only cooler if you had a thing for cardboard cutouts.
"I'm calling zombie bullshit."-Zoey. WHAT THE HELL? is that supposed to be a quote?

Not strictly a character but, i bloody hate Lazlow from the GTA series radio stations.

His whiney voice has got ever more irritating over the years.

*edit*

Oh and Dom from Gears (thanks for reminding me Slayer2) because of the shape of his stupid fucking head.

My friend hated Alexei from Starcraft Brood War because of the hat he wore.

If that's not a dumb reason I don't know what is.

I hated Ezio's Brother (who's name I didn't care to remember) in Assassin's Creed 2, because I repeatedly screwed up on the race tutorial mission and spent about half an hour doing it.
hahaha I almost had nothing to comment about with this thread (sorry but it's just kind of...eh)

but yeah Ezio's bro (I forgot his name too) beat me sooo many times with that tutorial mission
it was my first time playing the game, and I never played AC1 or the PoP games sooo yeah
I kept accidently kicking OFF the wall as I was trying to run up it (oops) xD
