I agree with Aeris Gainsborough, but I think that the protagonist died so many times in MW2, it almost became regular.

I think Kerrigan in Starcraft was pretty surprising. I was like; "NOES".
There's pictures of her all over the Starcraft 2 site, so I'm guessing she's back :D

edit: just realised you prolly mean her corrupted by the overmind >.>

*dumbass*
Nevertheless, I respect your vigilance.

I was indeed referring to her being taken by the Overmind. I was waiting to see if it was her in the Chrysalis all through the Zerg campaign.

By the way, if you intend to play Starcraft in the near future, and don't want the plot spoiled, don't read that last sentence.

This is a thread of spoilers, so no real point putting the sign out here.

When Roman dies in GTA IV.
Never, ever did that ending again.
I didn't cry, but it made me feel... well very, very depressed.

The other is Maze from Fable.
I felt so bad for him.

But he burned your village, killed your family, and had been using you from the start. Why would you feel bad for him?

I hate to say this but..

Nothing, nothing in a game has ever come near the craft involved in that scene. It's brilliant. It makes Aerith look like the rubbish anime trope she is.

At the end of Crisis Core when Zack dies. I don't like crying but I'll admit that it made me cry. And no, I will not spoiler that because anyone who's played the original FFVII will know the outcome of Crisis Core.

Also at the end of The Last Remnant when

Rush sacrifices himself.

It wasn't totally unexpected but it still saddened me.

Not many character deaths affect me, but ones that sacrifice themselves will get me every damn time.

(Except for Gaz in Modern Warfare. His death definitely shocked me.)

I saw it and was like " What no WAY I don't believe it, man this sucks i wish i could have shot them or something, AND COME ON WHERE DID THOSE TWO COME FROM ANYWAY???? the base had turrets and there was only one in the rest of the game and now there are two at once??? Now I'm sad, that secretly was my favorite character. well, at least now they have a starting point for episode 3. well i guess (s)he didn't really do anything important, and episode 3 will still be great, and besides, maybe they'll heal him as a surprise ending or something!

Because he was just a coward.
And because he had my favourite(and probably the truest)deathline.

Dead Rising, when the helicopter crashes at the first ending of the game. I even said "No, no, no, no, no!" after it crashed. Crazy stuff.

The freakin Christmas level in Elite Beat Agents! My jaw dropped at that point, the game was so cheery I was grinning like M. Bison most of the time playing it and then the little girl's dad dies?!! If you fail that song you feel terrible!

Prey, when
you have to kill your now mutant girlfriend instead of just having a mushy rescue scene.

I cried when Zelos died. The real kick in the teeth was that Kratos dies too. D:

as well developed as the starcraft characters were, i just couldn't get sad at their deaths for 2 reasons, 1 is that you see a 10 pixel tall character explode into a pool of blood in an almost comical way, and 2 is that they always come back, even if sometimes infected like kerrigan or mengsk on the n64 version, and fenix too. i bet like tassadar somehow gets back alive in sc2
