*sigh* Get ready for a bunch of Halo bashing, even though the original was unique for it's time.
Nope, never unique, every single design feature comes from other games.

Anyway.

Killzone / 2

I really like 1 (haven't played 2), but they're such ruthless mining of war movie cliche's. Faux Nazi baddies? Check.
Shaky cam cuscenes? Check.
Beach Landings? Check.
Dropships, shouty American Marines, Grey, boggle eyed Hitler wannabe? Check.

They're fun, but originality left somewhere in te first design meeting and hasn't been seen since.

Go to the bargain bin of your local videogame outlet. Browse around there for a while. Pick up any game less than 3 years old thats under £15-£20 (sorry for anglocentrism, but I am lazy) read its title.

Any game that is at all successful is so for a reason. The games that are totally lacking in ANY originality are not the ones that become successful. Even Final Fantasy lots and Legend of Zelda: The latest remake are at least slightly original, compared to some of the dross out there.

Generally nothing is original anymore, everything has been done before and will be done again

Um. I'd say every game ever made by EA, especially the sports games
I beg to differ, EA was the primary creator of Mirrors Edge, which is pretty damn unique.

Saints Row 2,

A GTA clone without shame that improves on its own systems so well that it's almost a better game than GTA 4. It doesn't have an original bone in its body though.
I love that game so much! I'll agree that it borrows from GTA quite a bit.

Halo is unoriginal, so is Mass Effect, but the difference is Mass Effect is a good game. A game can be unoriginal and still done properly. Mass Effect took a concept that had been beaten to death and continued beating it to death, but in the most polite and wonderful way possible.

Final Fantasy, and by the same extent Anime Games, there is an exact formula for anime games that they repaint from time to time and call it new.

Zombie Games

Japanese Games, Ninja, Samurai, anything of that sort.

World War 2

This discussion needs some boundaries if anything good should come from it. Is it necessary to mention sequels, since they diminish at least some originality from their predecessors? Also, one could argue that any game that attempts to reflect reality is inherently unoriginal (a simulation, such as The Sims).

I mean, I could say "Madden" and be done with it, but I could just as easily cite the latest Dynasty Warriors or Final Fantasy.

Mass Effect is original like Indiana Jones is unoriginal, take one part nostalgia, one part cliche, one part refinement and two parts modernization and mix well until you get something wildly entertaining that appeals to a broad audience because of the myriad and well mixed elements.

See, I love Mass Effect, but when I stand back I can see that yeah, it's pretty unoriginal, the difference is that its polished and refined and done better then most of your other Sci Fi space marine games.

With that said if Mark Meer returns with the same lack of acting ability in Mass Effect 2 I will shoot kittens out of a Rock-It Launcher in my nerdrage. The man needs some sort of voice acting school.

Religious games.
They rip off other games, and have centuries-old plots.

I'm going to say 3:

- Any WW2 game (killing Nazis, yeah, I'm bored of that now)
- Any modern day FPS (killing terrorists, yeah, bored of that too)
- Warhammer Online. They even stole the website name from WoW. (www.wow-europe.com and www.war-europe.com)

Who did he voice?

I thought most of the VA in Mass Effect was pretty awesome, my favorites being Female Shepard and Garus.

Mark Meer voiced male commander shepard, and had no freaking emotion whatsoever, now the female commander shepard was voiced by the same voice as Demona and Bastila Shan

What about the activities like Insurance Fraud, Trail Blazing, Crowd Control, Fuzz, Septic Avenger, Escort, Snatch, Streaking and Flashing?

I haven't seen those in any sandbox games before, except a few in Saints Row.

In Vice City you could ride motorcycles and wield a Katana, but not at the same time like in Saint's Row 2.

Also in the GTA games, during the course of the story, some of your friends died, but you couldn't use Voodoo to resurrect them as a Zombie.

One of the reasons I prefer the Saint's Row series over GTA is for some of it's original game-play ideas (like the fully customisable main character) and activities.
