X-blades and Heavenly Sword = although x-blades had a nice promo in Nuts magazine

Also I'd have to say that WoW and WAR are pretty similar but I know that Blizzard was making a Warhammer type game when Warcraft and Starcraft were developed or something along them lines

P.S theres also some game that I saw that was a complete rip-off of Abes Odyssey

unoriginal?
the sims 2 (the basic version, its just an upgraded version of the sims 1+livin large)
halo (vehicles in shooters came from GTA games, not halo)(anything afterwords has been trying to milk a dead cow)
every single COD game
FPS games in general excluding ones made by Epic Games or that have the name "Red Faction" on it (epic games makes every shooter they make worth playing, while Red Faction 1 (i havent seen if 2 does yet) you can carve anything apart, you can carve craters, dig tunnels, make outcrops, any geographical structure)
RTS games not named starcraft because they are all basically recycled varients of WW1 the same game (i will mention Impossible Creatures, but im not sighting it with starcraft because its not ballenced)
civilization 2 (its a slightly better form of Civ1)
/puts on an adamantium battle suit. Final Fantasy (the story lines are varied, but they tend to repeat themselves, and honestly the games have lost a descent amount of what made FF FF)
any WW2 game
ALL fantasy MMOs excluding WoW (they are all trying to dethrone WoW, but WoW is the most original, while WoW has done things uniquely after TBC came out)
madden&fifa, nothing new is added for 2 years for each of those games
RPGs in general try to ride off of diablo's success (havent seen 2 IRL, but i know its different enough to be considered not a clone, the games have gotten more refined since they were first made)

Warcraft was originally commissioned by Games Workshop as a Warhammer game, but dropped halfway through developement, while starcraft is there because blizzard wanted to make a Warhammer 40k one, but got rejected, so blizzard made the greatest RTS ever made as an insult to games workshop

Now that I've thought about it, the most unoriginal game has be an RTS.

Sure you got lot's of shooter clones, but there's also fewer elements there to innovate. Shooters are relatively simple games cooked on the same one basic FPS ingredient: shoot stuff that shoots back, so it's understandable shooters have much in common with eachother.

Now, top down view + base building + resource gathering + unit tiers + enemy who also has a base that you need to destroy + realtime, THAT is alot of very specific elements copied (from Dune2).
Some RTS like Homeworld and Kohan deviate slightly from the norm, but for most there can be no excuses.
My vote then goes for C&C: red alert3. The so many installment of a series that should've been left to die in peace.

you are looking at the non Scifi RTS games, those take different directions to the regular crap that we get shovel fed(set up is still the same, but honestly thats only for ballence), honestly, if it wasnt for starcraft's absolute raping of the mold, there would be no pro gaming

Call of Duty 4, because it has not one original idea in it just ideas taken from other games put into one package with a CoD4:MW stamp on it. (But thats true for every other FPS game too)

well i'd say that Killzone 2 is pretty damn unoriginal...
Agreed.

Gasp, as the scenery bores you to tears. Coo, as the voice-acting leaves you with a feeling of emptiness. Weep with despair at the sheer unoriginality.

1. the series is crap. only the first games of the series were great
2. while there are too many fantasy and sci-fi RTS games out there, doing the same game but with tanks + jets, doesn't make it very original, especially if you for the X time.
So the original Red Alert may be forgiven, also because it was a good game. Not for the rest, especially since the series has gone to recycled shit.

Apart from being a great RTS, with Starcraft Blizzard can say atleast they pioneered radically different factions to play against eachother, and succeeded.

I do not doubt Halo ONE was original. Halo 3 on the other hand, yeah pretty unoriginal.
halo wasnt original either, it just took WW2 games, put them in the future, and took vehicles from GTA and dropped em in there with a few guns attached

Actually, the Smash Balls are just from Power Stone on the Dreamcast. You had to collect 3 Power Stones to transform into a stronger version of your character that had 2 over powered attacks. Create-a-stage has been overdone since the N64/PS1 era.
Not really, collecting 3 power stones is different than chasing a smash ball around, hitting it to gain it's power. Well not that different but it is different none the less! Also what games had create-a-stage back then?

I have no idea where to get it, a friend gave it to me.

Having never played Smash Bros. Brawl I am not going to pass judgement.

Sorry, it is 2D, but hey, at least you can create a composite of a pirate, ninja, sumo and robot.
Well, can't argue with you there. Creating a Pirate, Ninja, Sumo and Robot would be pretty awesome!

I'd say Mega Man 9. It's unoriginal because it's been done exactly the same way many times before, in fact even more unoriginal because it directly copies the first two games (no charge shot or slide-tackle).

However, isn't it strange how that actually counts as an 'original' idea these days?

I mean, 8-bit hasn't been used for a very long time, and with the quest for graphics, going back in time is actually pretty original for a brand new game.

But it´s absolutely right, fullack

at least from part 8 upwards, blonde hero, black haired damsel, kingdom oder planet in danger, better graphics with each part and you have billions of screaming gaming girlies who pay every price for it.

Well, and WOW, Ultima Online is more versatile and basically the same thing and more, minus candy-colors and annoying children spamming in your local channel

Galactic Battlegrounds. It's an Age of Empires clone (seriously, same engine, etc, etc.)

I think i'll go with two games that most here have never heard of: Limbo Of The Lost and The Great Giant Sisters.

Limbo of the Lost was made by Indie company Majestic Studios...it was pulled from the shelves within months of release and led to the firing of two employees, reason? blantant plagiarism.

certain members of the development team flat out copied areas from the following: Oblivion,WoW,Beetlejuice,Pirates Of the Carribean and a few others i can't remember now.

The Great Giant Sisters was basically a carbon copy of Super Mario Bros...not much more can be said on it.

The FPS Genre.... period.
I disagree. The FPS genre can be subdivided into MANY subgenres that each contribute something new to the genre as a whole. Take FPS/RPGs for example. S.T.A.L.K.E.R. was a refreshing change! FPS-Simulations: Operation Flashpoint and ArmA brought realism and interactivity (along with clunky interfaces) on a level that had not been seen before.

Red Alert 3.

I'd like to see you give me three good reasons as to why not without mentioning the Japanese faction.
In all fairness, its a sequel, so it cant really be classed as "Unoriginal".
If sequels used all new ideas and no old ones, it wouldnt be a sequel.

But if anything, its the first RTS to be released onto the PS3, which kinda makes it original.

Pretty much every Square Enix game that came after Chrono Trigger.
