I wouldn't actually say it is the most unerrated game evar but I have to say that the most unappreciated game I can think of is Advent Rising.

If only Majesco hadn't rushed the game and just had it as a launch title for the 360 like it was originally supposed to, it would have been the start of an amazing trilogy. And has anyone noticed that the force powers in Force Unleashed work essentially the same way as the powers in Advent Rising? It's virtually the same system.

And the soundtrack was absolutely amazing.

Clover Studios is one of the most overrated studios in my opinion. Everyone of their games is praised greatly as some of the best game ever from everyone, when in reality they're good at best and mediocre at worst. Even after they shut down and then created Platinum Games all of the games released under this studio are greatly overrated as well. Both Bayonetta and Vanquish bored me to tears. Almost suicide at some points. :p

The Timesplitters series. It's a cult classic, but never really did get the recognition that it deserved by the gaming community as a whole.
^ true

OT: The Warriors on the PS2 (by Rockstar nonetheless) is my favorite fighting game of all time and one of my faovrite PS2 games in general.
But for some reason the game's awesomeness is not known to many people.

sacrifice, the look of the game is truly unique and the gameplay(while suffering from major balance issues) was incredible fun

As far as a game that sold poorly and didn't get much critical acclaim i'd go with Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth.
I was totally on board with that game...until that damn hotel chase-scene, thing. That was were I stopped, and unfortunately from what I saw of the rest of the game, it looks like it really just kinda became a poorly done shooter from then on out.

OT: The original Crackdown, probably. It was like GTA, except with super powers and more emphasis on wreaking havoc. Kinda like an even more over the top Saints Row, except you play as a genetically modified cop. It was just great....too bad the sequel was horrible. Can't believe I pre-ordered that piece of crap.

Halo, I think it never got the fame it deserves.

On topic. The Darkness. I haven't heard much of it, but there aren't many people who seemed to enjoy it. Sad, really. I spoiled part of the story for myself by looking at the Wikipedia page, and I still felt it when I got to that point. I have never felt so connected with the main character of a game, nor the world in general. The Darkness is, in my opinion, the most underrated game ever made.
This on both parts, the Halo franchise got a hell of a lot more attention than was needed.

And The Darkness is fantastic, I'm playing it now so I can refamiliarize myself with the story for the sequel later this year :D

Freedom Fighters was a real gem if you ask me. It was mainly overshadowed by Hitman back in the day, and has become a real cult classic over time.
I really loved the concept of making an underground resistance and commanding troops, while you yourself can also run around the battlefield in classic third-person shooter style.

On a sidenote: The upcoming game Homefront has a similar premise, except it is an FPS. Really looking forward to it.

...but no. I'll say the Custom Robo series is pretty underrated. Pokemon+ Robots= win!

Rise of Legends was a fantastic game. It wasn't under-rated so much as not played at all, because its release coincided with some other really popular and anticipated game that I can't remember the name of.

As for the most under-rated game, I'd have to say Overlord 2.

Quantum Of Solace is actually pretty good.......

Also, Another Code/Trace Memory and Silent Hill: SHattered Memories, fine examples of storytelling.

Viewtiful Joe? Now that's just cool...

Psi-Ops: The Mindgate Conspiracy.

The storyline was absolutely terrible but I still don't believe there has been any game before or since that has handled having psychic abilities as well as this one did. Not just the abilities themselves but the controls and uses for them.

Beyond Good and Evil, without a shadow of a doubt. Didn't sell THAT well, but was a stunning game.
More recently, Enslaved: Odyssey to the West. Even the developers didn't expect it to sell particularly well, but it had some of the most beautiful graphics and character rendering (the emotion on their faces was incredible), fantastic voice acting...it's an absolute gem of a game, yet it wasn't sold in vast quantities. Thankfully, they're talking about a sequel, so maybe it's like BG&E, stupendous game with a small but highly loyal following. At least you know the plots are going to be absolutely astounding.

Not that the series itself isn't Bismarck-class, but Final Fantasy V seems to have hardly any fans, even among series stalwarts. A shame, too; the title is nearly note-perfect.

I think it has a lot to do with it never having been released in America until it was already behind the times. By the time our shores got it as part of Final Fantasy Anthology, it was almost certainly recognized principally as 'that game that came with FFVI' and promptly forgotten.

I thought that Medal of Honor (2010) was underrated. I mean yeah, the multiplayer was mediocre and the single player had some bugs and was unforgivably short. But the single player gameplay was fast paced, exciting, well varied and incredibly immersive. The voice-acting was pretty good and the dialogue was great. It also had quite possibly the best soundtrack that I've ever heard in a game. Hell, I bought the damn soundtrack off of Itunes it was that great.

Borderlands. It's STILL my favorite game ever.
But it did really well commercially, critics loved it, got like 4 dlc packs, received a GOTY EDITION, and Gearbox has hinted at a sequel.

For me probably Harvest Moon 64, I remember reading about it in Nintendo Power and for some reason felt like I had to play it, I absolutely love that game >.>
