You're not being sarcastic at all.

All the females, as they're typically one-dimensional, subservient cardboard cut-outs. Created simply to pan to the basement dwelling males who long for women with no backbone and play to the imagination of confused weaboo females. I'm not calling anyone here that, it's just what they're designed to do.
The keyword here being "typically" (though I think "in certain genres" would better). While such Animé certainly exist (Misa from Death Note being an obvious - if modest - example), there are also quite a few Animé which feature no fanservice aspect at all (like Monster, Higurashi no Naku Koro ni, and Slayers), and romantic Anime where the female protagonist is anything but what you suggest they're all pretty much like (Spice & Wolf).

Like all other genres, most of what's available is "meh" or even bad, and there are certainly a few recurring themes which aren't exactly the pinnacle of modernity, and I despise a fair bit of them, but to blindly call the entire medium "bad" (even if it was based on 70 % of all releases, which I'd think was the Hollywood quality fail rate as well) is hardly objective or fair.

So I think I'll let my Lilium sarcasm stand.
Actually in fairness as much as I love Higurashi there are probably a few moments in it at least that could be easily considered fan-service, even if they did fit in with the plot at the same time. I agree with you totally in what you mean though, I'm just saying. :D

I'd want to nominate the entire cast of the Dragonball series...but since it's only one character, I'd have to say Moose from Ranma.

Ichigo from Bleach. He is stupid, whiny and pathetic. I also don't like the Dragonball approach in Bleach: "Powerful enemy-> protagonist trains and kicks powerful enemy's ass-> new even more powerful enemy-> protagonist trains, comes back shockingly more powerful and kicks powerful enemy's ass... First one to guess what happens next gets a pie.

Probably Sakura from Naruto. I like Naruto as a whole but she becomes really annoying and even stupid in a lot of the battles. I mean c'mon, she was pretty much useless in the original series.

Also, the cat thing, the pig and the pokemon from DBZ were just lame useless characters. It probably doesn't help that I don't like DBZ either.

Can't believe I can't think of someone from Bleach. I didn't like Ishida but he wasn't necessarily bad.

Well, I didn't like anyone in Elfin Lied, they couldn't get anymore bland. I have no idea how that became popular, probably from all the violence and nakedness.

Integra Hellsing would like a word with you.
If a fictional character can speak to me, than shes certainly more than one dimensional.

See the word 'typically', I'm not suggesting they're all like that, I'm sure many of them are slightly more realistic and are thus unlikeable for some other reason (they probably murder people or allow some stupid shit to happen). I was just using hyperbole.
A fair call. Like most things in the Anime world, Sturgeon's Law applies. 90% of it total crap while the rest of it isn't. What series or films fit where is always a case of taste and preference. And indeed the intense samey type of women you see in Anime makes the aversions to that, like Integra Hellsing, stand out more as characters.

Tessa Testarossa from Full Metal Panic. She's just WAY to perfect, with that annoying squeaky voice and her... she just...

Okay, let me put it like this; when Gauron boarded that sub and held her hostage at gun-point, I was hoping that he would blow her brains out.

For me it Kuroko from (to aru kanzaki no railgun) One time in the swimsuit episode what she put on made me throw up in my mouth or at least gagged alittle bit. (I'm looking for the clip to post)

All the characters from Bleach and Naruto, that anime is pure shit to me. Well, the characters act more mature in the manga so its basically the anime only.

I was having trouble thinking of someone for a bit.

But Wrath from FMA. F*cking Wrath. A whiny little kid who seemed to beat up everyone else and refused to die. The one point I thought he was finally going to die (*SPOILER ALERT*) at the hands of Lust, he turns thing around from out of nowhere and kills her. Then Gluttony (My favourite character) goes all emo and stupid. F*cking Wrath...
Yeah I really didn't like him and was sad to see Lust go as I didn't really like the other homunculi.

To be fair I've never seen a woman look so much like a man in an anime before, she looked like Pegasus from Yu-Gi-Oh.

Agreed. Every other character has trained and improved except for her and she says that almost every damn episode in the last 2 arcs (give or take a few).

My problem is how little incentive there is for the medium to change. The depiction of women in this role and expressing these values has caused outrage/at least someone whining in other areas (movies, videogames, music). Whereas with anime no-one seems to mind. It's probably more an issue with the peculiar Japanese society than with the genre. It is likely, however, that many fans of anime are drawn to it by this very thing.
I certainly won't dispute that there are genres within the medium - even several of them - which cater to base and old-fashioned views on women, and that some fans are attracted to this (as well). And that this aspect can even in small ways enter respectable Anime as well, such as Death Note, making them worse for it.

That's not really what I'm there for though and thus I generally avoid these genres unless they've got other redeeming qualities outweighing it, but having a fairly liberal outlook on fictional stories in any medium - including this one - I don't really consider their existence a problem; each to his own, as long as no real persons get hurt, and you're free to stay away from it.

I meant the poetry you posted was one talking of patience and restraint. Which is what you showed. I assumed you were calling him a troll. Whereas if you'd posted something suggesting his post was brilliant I'd understand the sarcasm.
I did in fact mean for the poem to ironically describe his stance as a wise and holy judgement on the "Anime as a medium" matter.

Okay, I must have forgotten about them, or simply not picked up on them. The anime as a whole - my all-time favourite [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/groups/view/Higurashi-no-Naku-Koro-ni] as it happens - certainly didn't cater to female stereotypes or mindless fanservice though.

Makoto from School Days was DELIBERATELY designed to be the most unlikeable possible douchebag in order to make it easier for the audience to accept the ending of the series
where one of his love interests (the one he got pregnant then publically dumped) stabs him to death, only for his other love interest (the one he initially hooked up with only to ignore in favour of the other one, causing her to lose her mind, until the other girl got pregnant causing him to go back to the first girl) to go nuts, cut the head off his corpse and keep it in a bag while she murders the other girl.
Yeah. It was that sort of show.
Aww... you ninja'd me...

But yeah, Makoto Itou is a serious bastard. He was ok up until the 4th episode or so, before going into douchebag-territory >_< He got what was comin' to him...

Orihime Inoue from Bleach. She was alright at first, but as the show went on she turned into a weak, pathetic character incapable of action, endangering the entire cast due to her uselessness. I don't just mean weak from a fighting perspective - it would be unfair to expect her to compete on that level - I mean that she is a weak person, personality wise. I have nothing but contempt for her.
Yep me too, I think a couple of episodes all she did was say Ichigo's name a few times and breath heavily...no really. Sasuke from Naruto is almost as annoying but at least we can take solace in him being the bad guy and will hopefully be killed in the future.

Shou Tucker is just creepy as hell; he really gave me the impression that he was a paedophile on the sly until it turned out he was something slightly worse. And Sasuke is just far too stereotypical emo so I'm with you there too

Yeah I agree with you there, I hardly noticed them my first time watching it through, but I've watched it through several times over since then and you pick up on them more afterwards. It still hasn't affected my like for the anime at all though, and in-fact maybe I'm the only one to notice them since my mind works that way. :p

Krillin from Dragon Ball Z. And most of the characters actually but Krillin more by 15% than that pig guy. Most anime characters are similar. They are like the seven dwarfs.
