Most unnecessary sequel?

Uhm, care to explain why the hate towards Pirates of the Caribbean 2? It was a pretty good movie, sure not has good has the first one but still it was pretty good.

For me, it would have to be Men in Black 2. Why there was the need of any sequel to an already great movie? The sequel was just plain dumb, yet it was mildly entertaining.

Pirates one had something. I'm not saying it is the greatest movie ever, but I don't know anyone who doesn't truly love the film. It is entertainment in its finest form with amazing characters and delicious twists. You have to love it, it's just nonhuman not to.

Right from the beginning of number 2 it replaces the constant grinning with a feeling of awkwardness. The over-the-top stupid action scenes, kerfuffling Johnny Depp's dialogue to make him a bumbling novelty character instead of the amazing pirate he is meant to be, forcing multiple one line characters down our throats and that ridiculous plot left it hollow, without its soul.

THAT is why I think Pirates 2 is no good.

For a start the last two movies were originally intended to be one movie but it was far too long and so, rather than horribly cut it down to size, they split it into two.
So, you shouldn't really consider the second movie without considering the third too..

Lost Planet 2 has been announced. If the fact that it is a sequel to a terrible game doesn't disturb you, then this should. In the first game, the developers used "Thermal Energy" because the planet is really cold. However, in the second game, the planet has become almost tropical, yet there is still "Thermal Energy!"

My vote goes to Toy Story 2, but since I clicked on the discussion thinking it was about video games, and prepared an answer for that, I'm going to give it. Prince of Persia: Warrior Within is the most unnecessary and destructive sequel in video game history. I would like someone to prove me wrong, but I just don't see it happening.

No, I can hear the music, just no voice.
Although, now that I think of it, the sound in my games has been playing up a bit lately, so it's probably the same problem.

I'll say most of the Halloween sequels. There are too many for there to be something interesting.

Crank 2, the first one was ridiculous enough (Don't take me wrong, it was pretty good), But this next one is looking pretty stupid... HE DIED AT THE END OF THE FIRST ONE. THERE IS NO WAY HE SURVIVED JUMPING OUT OF A HELICOPTER OVER A MILE HIGH OFF THE GROUND!!!

A: final fantasy X shouldn't of had a sequel... it was fine as it was

I like Back to the Future 2 and 3....so fuck all of you on this one. I even liked Ghostbusters 2 even if most didn't.

Actually you know what, most sequels made 2001 and on are ALL crap. Or at least 90% of them. I don't know why but after say 1997, writers stopped coming up with good ideas.

I mean, even the sequels back then that we thought were crap were gold compared to the stuff written today.

X-men 3 comes to mind. It had a strange obsession with killing off every major character it could in one movie (I think they knew that they were never going to get another sequel so they just started killing people off).

Starship Troopers 2 was extremely unnecessary.

Starship Troopers 1 was nothing less than genius and is one of my favorite sci-fi movies. I've watched it 5 times, most recently last weekend. Brilliant satire, and it didn't take itself seriously. ST 2 felt like it was trying too hard to be serious, which misses the whole point. Haven't seen the third movie, and don't plan on doing so.
