Unnecessary: Phantasy Star Online Version 2. (I shit you not, it was more of a patch than another game, but it was sold and counts as a separate title. It also doubled the level cap in an already grindy game...)
Bad: Final Fantasy X-2

The second Ace Ventura movie. The first was funny, and wasn't afraid to be a little adult at times - like when Jim Carrey bangs Courtney Cox, for example - the second was a second-rate kid's film.
still. It was shit.
That's lying

About the second movie? Have you seen it recently?

or about the first movie? Have you seen that recently either?

Yes I have, very recently, as in last night.
That movie is really hilarious, it may not include people banging, and it may seem a little immature at times, but holy tits it's a masterpiece !

The most unneeded movie sequel I've ever seen has to be a tie between Starship Troopers 2 and Mission: Impossible 2 (both were parts of series that had great first movies but severely diminished in quality as they progressed through sequels).

The most unnecessary game sequal I've seen has to be Drakengard 2, not only was the first game resoluted quite nicely (7 times to be exact) but the sequal isn't even anything like the first game in terms of style, mood and narrative.

Personally I vote Indiana Jones, the trilogy was fine the way it was. Why make another?
This, I agree with. I like to pretend the fourth one never happened.

*Cough* Which it didn't.
I second this idea, the fourth one doesn't exist.

Also, Star Wars 1-3...I like to think they didn't happen either.
(I suppose those are prequels though...)

Other terrible sequels- Land Before Time 2+, NeverEnding Story 2, MIB 2, Jurassic Park 2+, Matrix 2,3
There are just too many bad horror / sci-fi movies to list...

So have I. Besides, even if you liked Ender's Game but didn't like the sequels, you can't look at them as unnecessary, as the only reason that Card even made the Ender's Game short story into a full book was as a way to make Speaker For The Dead.

I never read anything but Ender's Game. Would you say read or no?
Yeah, definitely. Just keep in mind going in that it isn't really the same type of book as Ender's Game.

I know you mean movies, but BioShock 2. Don't hate me, and I'm sure it'll be good, but it seems incredibly unneccesary. The first game had a distinct start and finish, and is a perfectly good stand-alone title. It doesn't seem like something that would become a franchise.

Underworld.

I mean, seriously, the first one was horrible enough without making a second and third.
I thought the third one was actually more watchable than the second :/

Final destination 2

At the end of final destination the entire cast is dead, but for the second movie three characters have miraculously survived to do the same things over again.
wasnt there also going to be a third one?
There're on number 4 now - they are making it, from what I've heard.

Donnie Darko 2 (sorry, 'S. Darko') should not have made it off of the ideas page.

Offt. This is where we agree to disagree. I just couldn't get any of the jokes, they were nowhere near as original for me as the... well... the original :p

Batman & Robin.

EDIT: Saws II-V
the saw 2-5 movies where realy important to the story, it explained why Jigzaw did what he did, and what happend after the first. since it had no real closure.

and its the best movie franchise since LOTR and the Matrix in my opinion.

Star Wars Episode 1 - this piece of crap annihilated fond childhood memories, everything star wars is now sour for me.

And what's with all the Back to the Future 2 hate?
For a start the last two movies were originally intended to be one movie but it was far too long and so, rather than horribly cut it down to size, they split it into two.
So, you shouldn't really consider the second movie without considering the third too..
