Most unnecessary sequel?

Every SAW movie after the second one, and I think the second one was a bit unnecessary.

The 4th Indiana Jones, completely unnecessary.

Terminator 3 was also unnecessary - in fact, all terminator movies, books, games, TV shows, etc were unnecessary after T2. It was all wrapped up with the second film, but of course, the studios couldn't resist making money.

In terms of games:

Far Cry 2 has already been mentioned, Bioshock 2 will be another candidate when it comes out for "most unnecessary sequel ever", Most Mario game sequels are getting prety useless (why save the damn princess if she's going to be captured again! Seriously, Nintendo, can you make a main-stream mario game that doesn't involve saving Peach?).

Really Yoko? Really? Out of all the movies you could have chosen to restore your faith, you chose KungPow? Deary me....

I'm going to say 'Twilight Two' , still yet to be released, but that doesn't make it any less unnecessary

chronologically they're prequels but the second trilogy of star wars!! Episode 1-3 were horrible! yes they answered some questions about the first saga to come out, but the casting sucked balls and so did all the shitty lines! if lucas spent a little more time punching up the lines and found some better actors to read those line they could have been great movies. but that didn't happen in our reality!!

Crank 2, the first one was ridiculous enough (Don't take me wrong, it was pretty good), But this next one is looking pretty stupid... HE DIED AT THE END OF THE FIRST ONE. THERE IS NO WAY HE SURVIVED JUMPING OUT OF A HELICOPTER OVER A MILE HIGH OFF THE GROUND!!!
A: final fantasy X shouldn't of had a sequel... it was fine as it was
B: come onnnn that movie is still gonna be awesome... and you are probably gonna see it
Im so mad at the fact that your completely right... DAMMIT.
You aren't the only one...Crank was awesome, and I was so pissed that they were making a sequel (mostly because you just don't survive a mile high back slam into a car), but I am going to watch it.

EDIT: Gamewise, I thought Condemned 2 was pretty unecessary, sequel-wise.

Also, I hate to say this, but a part of me kind of liked Saw V...maybe it was the sleep deprivation...

I like Back to the Future 2 and 3....so fuck all of you on this one.
Yeah, what's with all the BTTF 2 and 3 hate? They were good movies, and (while we're on the subject) Back to the Future is one of the greatest Trilogies of all time.

The new Fast & Furious movie...WHY? And they don't even bother just calling it The Fast & The Furious 4, its just Fast & Furious. The movie studio can only count up to 2 (the third was called Tokyo Drift). More importantly it doesn't make any sense: Its the 'direct' sequel to the original movie, that came out in 2-0-0-1; a sequel sequel? Hell I don't know.

The New Testament

OH SNAP
*thumbs up*

apart from the two towers and return of the king i'm struggling to think of ANY necessary sequels.

as for pirates, yeah the second wasn't as good but it essentially had all the same pros and cons the black pearl had: johnny depp being amazing, keira knightley and orlando bloom locked in battle for painfully bad acting. how is the american better at being english than the FUCKING ENGLISH!!?? the 3rd is where i gave up on the series.

my shortlist:
shrek 2 (forget the third, the second already fell woefully short of the first)
ocean's twelve (jesus)
the mummy 3 (oh sweet jesus!)
indiana jones 4 (haven't even bothered to watch it, it was unnecessary LONG before it was released)
meet the fockers (actually any ben stiller movie, they're all essentially the same film)

I'm just gonna say it Devil May Cry 4 i mean all you really needed to play is 1 and 3 and you know the whole story but 4 was so out of the box

I think that almost any sequel by definition is unnecessary. The only exception would be a planned trilogy like Lord of the Rings. That was technically one big movie broken up into three release dates because movies that long haven't been seen since Greed.

But, if I were to choose, I'd say Dungeons & Dragons: Wrath of the Dragon God. The original didn't make any money. It doesn't need a sequel.

Also, Basic Instinct 2. The main selling point of the original was seeing Sharon Stone naked. But it's been a while and not only has she aged but she's opened her big yap politically, so she is consequentially not as attractive as she used to be. I don't understand why they used her in this movie. Basic Instinct is a film that should have had In Name Only sequels with new casts like Poison Ivy.

Godfather 3

or TMNT 3

or Resident Evil Apacolypse

or The sequal to the DBZ BRoly movies, (Okay the second one was fine, 3rd was unessesary)

or Anything other than Enders Game(could be books to)

or AVP: Requim

or Predator 2 on that matter

Apocalypse all the way.

I mean as often as people rip on the first RE movie I actually liked it a lot.

For all the complaining about it not following the same story as the game, if it had it would have been a lot worse off. First everyone would complain about the actors, they'd ***** about the story, and the scenes used, and every little thing that strayed from the game would be a big deal.

the RE movie actually had enough to do with RE to make the title appropriate but it did it in a way that was actually enjoyable and pretty good.

RE apocalypse on the other hand, tried to do what the first movie had so intelligently avoided, going to close to the storyline of the actual game. Employing a crack whore to portray Jill Valentine, and making her character downright odd, giving Alice super powers, making Nemesis good, all of these were things that made me, as a RE fan, pissed off as all hell, and they are all due to them trying too hard to incorporate the game.

Lately alot of cherished childhood movies have been butchered; Indiana Jones, Rocky, Rambo, Die Hard etc.. they were all pointless and crappy as hell.
