i say stick swords, they just hurt...

and i rule with nunchucks, they're hard as heck to block, suirken injury and impale and provide distraction. Also, put one into someone's head and see if they die...

Well I've never seen a three section staff used so it seems a pretty daft weapon to me. And swords aren't much use really, there are much better weapons to be using.

I totally agree, considering they were also made up by someone within the last 30 years
While nobody really knows where the nunchaku originated, it definitely didn't get "made up" 30 years ago.

Nunchucks imo.
They hit the user too.
Swords are pretty good, though hard to conceal.
Throwing knives are possibly the best out there. Easy to conceal, ranged and quiet.

Nunchucks. Not because it's hard to cause damage, (all you gotta do is flick your wrist in the right way) but because it is way too easy to disarm someone who is using them. My mom teaches karate, and that is what she said.

I would say Sai are the most useless. They are great for disarming bladed weapons but are not effective against other weapons and not good for attacking.
Raphael used two sais. You're argument is invalid.

He was the badass mutant turtle, in case you don't know.

Aha! I see you, [villain]! Just hold perfectly still a moment!
*thunk*
Sorry, I missed. Hold on.

Dammit!

Right, I've run out of knives. Just hold on; I'll be right back!

Other than that, katana. They can be absolutely devastating when used by someone with the proper training to wield them effectively, but if you don't, you're just as likely to horribly injure yourself as you are to hurt anyone else.

I think the idea is that anything is a useful weapon in the hands of a skilled martial artist.

Read number 3, Jack Churchill. You may think differently.

But that's only one man, although an awesomely badass man, he's Scottish. Normal laws of survival, pain and occasionally physics don't apply to the Scottish .

The Pacific war is full of tales of Japanese soldiers charging swords drawn only to be torn apart by much less honourable but much smarter American or British soldiers. I've also read an account of a Marine on Tarawa getting a sword through him, then pulling said sword out of his chest and stabbing it's owner to death with it, if only he'd used bullets...

#Edit, why is Simo Hiyha only number 5? The other ones are all extremely worthy, but don't quite compare to single handedly putting the (completely justified) fear of God into the entire Russian army.

I hope most people know the martial artists never uses "useless" weapons, so that gets rid of any of the answers here. Any weapon a martial artist uses, they use it for a reason. You can, however, argue which one is the least effective. With that, I'll argue that it's nunchucks because they are probably harder to master just to be able to use a weapon that's not that lethal.

Heh heh, stupid bastard
but i think its shurikens, seriously how are those supposed to kill people
They aren't meant to kill people. They are meant to injure or incapacitate. They can kill if poison is applied to the weapon itself. Think of them being similar to caltrops.
Well, if that's the case, then they're not completely useless

This.

The origin of martial arts was Chinese peasants trying to find a way to resist soldiers and aggressors. They decided to figure out a way to use their bodies and basic farm tools as weapons. The nunchuck is not a particularly good weapon because it was originally used as a flail to harvest grain. The point was to make it so when someone starts shoving a farmer around, he can whip that thing across your throat in a perfect arc. Same for scythes, staffs, stick swords, etc. They aren't inherently superior to another weapon, they are what the average person had lying around their house.

First off, the OP stated martial arts weapons and Ninjas aren't the only martial artists in the world. Second, a good chunk of the stereotypical Ninja weapons are glorified and quite possibly made up. After all, how many people can actually claim to have seen a real period Ninja at work? None.

it originated somewhere in Asia, but the nunchucks that are seen today were made up within the last 30 years for kung fu movies

The Nunchaku are actually pretty effective when used properly. The one weapon I'm not fond of are the Shuriken. People seem to have this overestimation of their capabilities.

Nunchuks, or however they're called.

There are far more useful weapons that don't have a chance of breaking your own arm while hitting someone.
