I can see how being cheated on can lead to suicide, what I don't get was why she wanted her kids to die too.

Hmmm? What do you mean?

[small]And why do you always use small print if I might ask?[/small]

Maybe we're looking at this the wrong way. Maybe suicide is a good thing for the rest of us, eh? Those persons of the temperament and emotional distress sufficient to kill themselves will be removed from our society, and if they take their kids with them then the state doesn't have to worry about what to do with the orphans.
By that, logic, the extinction of the human race would serve the planet more then we ever could in life. No more pollution, no more threat of nuclear war, no more mass murder, Earth would probably be better off. But we're never anxious to do "What needs to be done" when we're the sacrificed minority

And here I thought this was another "the video games made me do it" death involving the Mother series.

I resent that accusation. You're saying my beliefs are not my own, but I'm just saying nonsense to look tough? Absurd. Who are you to say what I believe? You do not know me.
I know your type. I've seen it around here, the same responses to the same threads every single day, by people just like you. Am I generalizing you? Probably. Do I care? Not really. Frankly, it doesn't matter if what you said was merely trying to impress people or actually reflective of your beliefs (which would be actually substantially more disturbing). What matters is that you said it, and that what you said falls into the same pattern I see of emotionally stunted, weird comments that fail to recognize the true value of human existence. Try losing someone close to you through suicide, and then tell me it's a good thing for society.

No, I don't know you. And I never want to.
I've lost several family members and pets, though none through suicide. Mostly through long, drawn out medical issues. It did not, and does not bother me any more than some random guy in Illinois dying of a heart attack, of Mitzy the Shih-tzu getting hit by a car (Then again, I'm behind that one. I dislike Shih-Tzus nearly as much as I hate Chihuahuas. Fucking kickdogs.), or any of the missing and dead in any natural or man-made disaster that occurs.

Some people are internet tough guys.

Some people really ARE just sociopaths.

Some people really ARE just that emotionally cold. I'm not particularly sorry if that offends you, I'm just amused that you feel the need to attack folks to make yourself feel better 'bout your place in the world.

OT: Meh. My views here are more or less summed up in the above. Someone in a bad situation killed themselves. Why does this rate as a greater tragedy than starving children in 3rd world countries or mass rapes and genocide at the hands of mercenaries in other 3rd world countries?

If this is what it takes to bring you down, you'll never survive the Zombie Apocalypse, people.

[SMALL]And yes, that IS gallows humor there.[/SMALL]

It's a reference to the video game series "Mother", of which only one game was ever localized (Earthbound). The joke is in somewhat poor taste, so I put it in small text.

Haven't noticed that I always use small print, but maybe it has become second nature. A better question is why I have this strange tendency to only write sentences that start with "it" or "I", or why I constantly make sentences that go "something something something, but something something".

In any case: I use it as either a note or comment on the post, or as a point that is unconnected to the rest of the post (so people won't get that weird feeling from reading two completely unconnected paragraphs, like this).

Lobsters are nice, I wonder why they have to be so expensive.

Ah, I see. Yeah, that was a little in poor taste, but whatever, I won't hold it against you.

Uhm, okay wait a minute...

First off who the hell are you to question his or her beliefs? Seriously, there is truth to what he is saying, though it may be rather dark, and it makes sense in context. Those of us that like to process things on logic and not solely on emotion have our own way of looking at things. Try reading a goddamned rhetoric essay on the subject of death and you will see (assuming you get the point) how human existence has been thought of throughout the ages. It isn't like he hoped for the surviving child to suffer, he was speaking his ideas. If he had hit a sour note with you (from some past incident where you used to think like we do and the loss hit too heavily) then there is no need to comment on his point. If you don't allow him to have his beliefs then you probably don't value human intellect.

I don't encourage suicide, and I never will, but if you are going to do it don't take others with you.

Is it wrong that I saw it as 4Kids (the company) and cheered?

anyway, Glad to see one of the children made it through. it's always a shame whenever someone decide's to commit suicide.
Ahahaha, no, that would have been a much more uplifting story than this one.

I almost think parents should be prescreened before being allowed to have kids, at least the one kid made it but who knows how he'll grow up.

Maybe I'm heartless, maybe I'm a monster, but I have no sympathy for her if she was going to take FOUR CHILDREN with her. Suicide is tragic. Murder is justifiable. Murdering children is unforgivable.

Damn, this is really, really sad. Anger, wrath, and depression making you take the life of three of your kids as well as yourself.

I'm going to go do something uplifiting now, because I feel depressed

It's really sad that tragedies like this happen. I just hope the higher-ups in this country don't spit all over this by connecting this to videogames somehow.
