I happen to know a few people who have been raped. They're simply not the same people anymore. It's almost impossible for someone to NOT be traumatised by rape. Sometimes, even the rapist gets traumatised. It's one of the most horrific things you can do to a person. Especially a virgin...

Eyup, not sure bout Australia, but in the U.S., rape is basically defined as any unwanted attention that can be construed as sexual in nature. This means you can be convicted as a rapist if you hug someone. One of the officials at my college came in and basically did a "rape awareness" talk, and one of the players he was scouting years ago got convicted of raping an entire playground of children at school. He was playing explicit music, after dropping his lil brother off, while his windows were down. A teacher heard it and pressed charges. The bad thing? If his windows had been rolled up, he might have gotten off, though his life still would have been fucked.

That wouldn't qualify as rape, that'd be sexual harassment.

Yes, this is horrible and incredibly immoral; but I'm afraid I must disagree, a four year jail sentence IS enough - our emotions sometimes push us overboard, and prompt us to be extremists.

Also, we do not know the details of the event, and while it may not justify the act completely, perhaps there is a somewhat, pseudo-valid excuse for this (hopefully).

Wow she's lucky she didn't do that in the US. You get a minimum of 25 years in prison for molesting a child under 12 years old in all but 6 states. And since she used her camera phone to record the whole incident they would have slapped some child pornography charges on their too.

I hate to get into generalizations, but I believe that if someone rapes their own child, they should not be allowed out of jail until the the child is 18, at least.
