Well, it wasn't based directly on the movies (it was set between them) but I actually really enjoyed the Saw game. Yeah, the combat sucked horribly, but the puzzle elements were a lot of fun, and I felt they more than made up for the bad combat. And, well, if you like the Saw series, I don't think the plot would dissappoint. It was nothing to write home about, but I enjoyed it.

So, I'm putting my vote behind the Saw game.

Say it with me everybody: The Starwars Battlefront Series. Hell yeah.
HELL YEAH!!!!

Actually, a lot of Star Wars games are starting to be good. Though, most of them aren't centered around the movies' events, or even are within 100 years of the timeline. But, me and my friend LOVED the Rogue Squadron games. We played the second one together when we were maybe 8 or something. This was before there was co-op, so one of us would fly the ship, and one of us would fire the guns. Man, we used to get so pissed at each other... Good times...

Oh, and more Star Wars games... Spinoffs, but AWESOME!!!
Republic Commando(NEEDS A SEQUEL!!!!) KOTOR, and I thought The Force Unleashed was fun.

Oh, and also The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King. Me and my friend played that game to death.

This. Well worth the money.
Whenever it enters a discussion here on the Escapist it makes me want to set the old PS2 back up.

King Kong.

It had some great moments trying to survive the perils of Skull Island and getting to be a giant ape tearing up 1930's era New York was plenty fun too.

Back in the genesis/SNES era. Many movie games were just great platformers that happened to be based on movies.

I keep bringing these ones up in the situation, but Jurassic Park and The Lion King for the genesis were and still are, AWESOMESAUCE!

Well let me see...
Okay Wolverines Revenge was a pretty decent game, well I thought it was. Though it's questionable on whether or not that game was a tie-in. The games box art has Hugh Jackman on it but the in game Wolverine looked nothing like him and was instead voiced by Mark -The Joker- Hamill, the story has nothing to do with the movie and instead as much more to do with the Comics featuring cameos from comic book characters and such. I guess the box art suggests a tie-in but the game isn't. Anyway I really enjoyed that game... Had it's faults here and there but otherwise it was pretty damn good.

The Batman Begins game wasn't God awful, it actually managed to balance combat and stealth quite nicely while having brilliant graphics for it's time and being fun. The game could be finished within a day easy but it was pretty good while it lasted. The game also included the entire cast from the movie. Also followed the plot pretty well.

The battlefront series: These games followed the plot of the movies while also helping bridge the gaps between the prequel and the original. The combat was brilliant and the story was entertaining. Couldn't recommend that game enough, the amount of hours I wasted on those games... Jesus.

I've hear Wolverine: Origins is a pretty good game but I've only played the demo so I can't vouch for any of this.

The Godfather game was excellent, even kept mostly within the actual story while making just a few changes here and there.

Scarface: The world is yours. That was a brilliant game and the voice actor did a decent Al Pacino impression. The gameplay was fun and pretty varied. I enjoyed it anyway. Graphics where average for the time though. I was sort of bummed out that they didn't make a 360 port as was planned.

Spiderman 2: Yeah that really was a good game. I loved the whole free-roam business and the web swinging. The missions and the voice acting had there ups and downs. Mainly from the stand-ins. Bruce Cambel did a brilliant job on narrating the tutorials.

The King Kong game was brilliant... Little short and nothing really to do once it was finished but well it was good ride while it lasted. Pretty atmospheric, decent combat for movie tie in and well an easy 1000 achievement points.

There's plenty of good movie tie-in games if you look for them.

How did you manage that?

I'd say Heavy Rain, but it's not a movie. So....hmm....I also vote for the Star Wars Battlefront games.

The flight controls were used by the joystick, the shooting by the spacebar and the left control. We died a lot.

Street Fighter The Movie

It was written and directed by the guy who wrote Die hard...

DIE HARD!

And it has Raul Julia, I'm fucking serious, SF: the movie is one of the most under-rated films of all time as a straight up satirical comedy! I mean casting Jean Calude van Damme as the all-american-hero Guile? Come on, this beat Team America World Police to the punch by 10 years, it is utterly hilarious if you look at it for the humour and just sheer awesomeness aspect.

Raul Julia, man. Fucking Raul Julia.

"I was hoping to meet Guile on the battlefield. One gentleman warrior to another in respectful combat...

... then I would snap his spine"

Awesome.

Others have already mentioned it, but some of the Lord of the Rings games were preety good (not Fellowship of the Ring for PC and GBA, though....those were horrible). I was particularly impressed with Return of the King. While it was a preety standard action game, it was very decent at that. Also, while Battle for Middle-Earth wasn't particularly impressive, it wasn't a bad RTS either.

To be honest, while there is a lot of preety bad movie-based games, I don't think the situation is quite as bad as with game-based movies. At the very least, we can think of at least a couple of shining examples that are exceptions to the rule.

Also, while I haven't played it, I heard The World is Not Enough is quite well-praised (albeit not to the same degree as it's predecessor).
