Not just deep, artsy or indie films, but films that might have been really basic but were really good (in your opinion) and noone else saw them

Mine would be Surf's Up. It's a basic film about arrogant student learning from wise old master to beat arrogant, bullyish reining champion, but it's done with a surf competition by rockhopper penguins (and one very awesome chicken).

What made it great was the really pretty visual design, the good humour and the grade-A camerawork. It was a mockumentary, with shakey cam, interviews and occasional dialouge with the camera crew (who largely take a back seat).

Rocky Horror Picture show.
I swear, only one in five people have even heard of it.
I had to teach a few of my friends how to do the Time Warp the other day, too.

I liked Heavy Metal... but isn't Surf's Up a kid movie intended to be view by the masses? Not sure that one counts...

I know, it's a shame. :(
I was thinking of tying my friends up to some chairs and forcing them to watch it sometime.

Kung Fu Hustle - a hilarious Chinese film.

It actually was nominated for a golden globe but it's not really the type of movie I can mention at a party and expect many people to recognize.

Shaolin Soccer - by the same writer/director/star was also really brilliant.

More people need to see foreign films!

I share your pain. One day, I will teach it to them and they will remember it for more than 5 fucking minutes.

Almost everyone of my friends have seen both of those, and so have I.

Same here also.

I haven't seen any feature films that no one else has seen...

... Because there are always people who have watched the same movies as me, and you.

These two films are excellent! Love them both for their off-beat weirdness and awesome Wire-fu.

OT: Run Lola Run (amazing German film), it won a lot of awards but no one I know has ever heard of it. Hmm and Banlieue 13 (District 13) was also a great foreign action movie.

Asparagus.

It's an animated Short Film that played in the 1970s with David Lynch's Eraserhead. If you watch that feature first than Watch Eraserhead, everything seems to make a little more sense with Lynch's feature.

You can find Asparagus on Youtube, type in 'Asparagus - Suzan Pitt', it's in two parts.

It is amazing.

Boondock Saints. Too few people have seen that.
I didnt' see it until the second one came out and I was curious about it.

I haven't met one person who I show it to that haven't loved it though once they did see it.

I feel almsot like an evangilist of Boondock Saints. : )
