In the vein of BASEketball, I would like to throw out Orgazmo and Cannibal! the Musical. Both are Parker/Stone movies and both exceptionally good despite that fact. Orgazmo is about a Mormon who, in order to get money to marry his sweetheart, becomes a porn star. Cannibal is a musical inspired by the life of Alfred Packer.

I also agree that more people need to watch foreign films. Run Lola, Run is one of my favorites, and the soundtrack is amazing. It's quite possibly the best workout mix you'll ever find. I also enjoyed Farewell, My Concubine, which won an Oscar, but I can't find anyone else who has seen it. I also enjoyed I'm a Cyborg, But That's Okay and A Tale of Two Sisters, both of Korean origins. The first is a romantic comedy set in an asylum. The latter is quite possibly one of the best horror movies I've ever seen. I heard that there were plans of remaking Sisters, but I haven't heard of any updates recently.

I don't agree with Rocky Horror, but that's only because I come from a town that has a Halloween showing, complete with shadow casts. Also, I was in a stage production of it. It's a wonderful show.

I really liked Mongol. It's about Genghis Khan's life.

I also really like 'Jesus Christ: Vampire Slayer' pure gold!
I was just looking at Mongol the other day - would you recommend it?

I'll go with The Good, The Bad, The Weird. It is a Korean, wild-west film set in 1930s Manchuria and a homage to the original spaghetti Western. It is fairly light and loud, and feels a lot like Desperado. If you like that film, I'd certainly recommend this.

The other would be KekeXili: Mountain Patrol, which (again) is based sort of on the Wild West, but is set in Tibet. It tells the story of the real life hardships of a team of voluntary game wardens, who are persuing a gang of poachers. It encaptivates the whole philosophy behind China's issues with Wildlife preservation and how the concept of conservation is a luxury to some. That would be my favourite film at the moment.

I'll testify: Both Run Lola Run and I'm a Cyborg, But It's Okay are great little movies.

I am so happy somebody other than me and my friends know about cannibal and orgazmo, they are friggin hilarious. Just the other day I sang to my wife "When I was on top of you" (for those who don't know, its a song about a horse). These are honestly two of the funniest movies I've ever seen.

The hapiness of the Katakuris. I really strange Japanese film about a poor Japanese family who own an inn in the middle of nowhere (due to a road not being built) however the first guests they get die and so they cover it up. It is a blcak comedy with dance and musical numbers claymation and an old man throwing logs at birds. Crazy

The two movies I would throw into this mix would be Dan in Real Life and Stranger Than Fiction.

Both have premises (and actors) the moviegoing majority generally doesn't expect much from but they still hit it out of the park with phenomenal writing, acting, characters and off-beat humour.

They are must watches.

Plan Nine from Outer Space. Been voted the worst film ever made but it's so dreadful it's a joy to watch with a few friends.

Aragami released in America as Aragami: the Raging God.

Basically the most minimalistic film I've ever seen. Shot entirely in 1 room, only 5 actors, 2 of them are only on screen for 2 minutes combined and have no dialogue and a third has only 2 lines in the entire movie and barely moves; it's basically a 2-man film. It was made as part of a drunken bet between two Japanese directors, Yukihiko Tsutsumi and Aragami's director Ryuhei Kitamura (famous for his over-the-top action films) to make a "duel" movie with 2 actors battling in a single set within the space of 1 week. It's awesome, my absolute favourite chambara film and one of my all-time top 5 live-action movies. MASSIVELY underappreciated.

Stranger Than Fiction is one of my family's favourites.

And mine would have to be Clue. Noone outside my family ever saw/heard about it. But it's fun of so much humor and fun.

I would say "Phenomenon". I actually liked that move quite a bit.
Yeah, I agree, that was pretty good indeed. If you could get over the whole John Travolta thing.

Black Dynamite. It's a relatively new film, by it's one of the funniest satires I've ever had the good fortune to watch. If your a blaxploitation fan, you're in for a treat.

Also,Grosse Point Blank. I didn't think it was that obscure, but no-one I know had even heard of it.

You move, you die.

Low budget Australian film that was pure gold.

I mean, they didn't even have any special effects, they shot a guy, the screen flashed white and the guy was dead, hell there wasn't even any blood. But the best part was hay they pulled it off.

One of my favorite comedy flics ever, and it's been that way for many years.

In my opinion, too few people have seen 'Dark City'. If you liked 'Matrix', chances are you're gonna like this one, too.

Dear Frankie - A woman has been writing letters back and forth to her deaf son pretending to be his father. When the kid wants to actually meet his father, she hires a man her friend knows to spend the weekend pretending to be her ex-husband. It sounds kind of silly and gimmicky, but it is a really well written, thoughtful film that tells a very sentimental story without delving into the saccharine like most such films would be inclined to.

Oh, I got plenty of those. Let me browse my list.

Arn, Tempelriddaren
A really good Swedish movie that seems to only be well known in Sweden itself. A man becomes entangled in Scandinavian 'politics' and ends up causing a 'scandal' when he impregnates the love of his life, after which he is sent to the holy land to join the crusade and repent for his sins while his girl is forced to join an abbey.

Children of Men
A movie about the world anno 2027, when a virus has caused worldwide infertility. When a woman becomes pregnant it's up to the protagonist anti-hero to get her to safety from the hands of cultist freaks, a corrupt government, and more. Absolutely beautiful movie, I can assure you that every escapist here will enjoy it.

Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian
Everyone knows the first one, which was a fairly shallow LOTR rip-off and overall more of a children's movie. This one however, is actually pretty good. Stuff has definitely improved since the original and it's suitable for an older audience as well.

Crank
A guy gets a drug pumped into his blood stream that causes him to die if his heartrate drops too low. Result: he goes on a day-long adrenaline rush, trying to find his 'killers' and with them a possible antidote. Keywords in this movie are fun and action.

Elephant
Years after I've seen this movie, I still can't give a proper judgement about it. It's a 100% typical Gus van Sant movie, and the entire movie (which sincerely does not have a plot) thrives on artistic use of the camera while the director plays with lightning, sound, scene length, etc. Whether you end up liking or disliking it, this movie WILL blow you away.

Paranoid Park
Exactly the same thing as counts for Elephant counts here, really. It's an artistic Gus van Sant movie, and while similar in that, it is still completely different from Elephant.

TBS
A Dutch movie, and one heck of it. TBS means Ter Beschikking Stelling, which is comparable to a 'prison' for those who are semi-mentally ill and have to be 'reshaped' before they can be released back into society. One of these prisoners, Johan (played by Theo Maassen, a famous Dutch comedian) escapes from his facility and ends up taking a young girl named Tessa hostage. Tessage develops the stockholm syndrome as more and more about Johan's past is revealed and they travel across the mainland of Europe. If you get a change to see this (with subtitles), definitely take it.

Agreed!

I really like Night of the Living Dead. Most people know about it but I've found that not alot of people have actually seen it.

Also Let the Right One In is the coolest vampire movie I have ever seen in my entire life.
