One of the best movies I've ever seen and particularly appealing to gamer sensibilities. Great story, believable actors, lots of fun. Just check out the site and tell me you aren't curious.
gotta say, I went and I'm interested, and reading the story behind the movie, that they couldn't get any studio interest, so pushed it onto torrent sites, and after 400,000 downloads and it getting to #16 in the IMDB listings, they STILL can't get a distributor, presumably because of fear of supporting a movie that's found success thru the pirate/torrent community.

AS they themselves say, they're not pulling in a lot of cash considering the number of downloads, but more importantly, they're getting heard of, and the buzz is getting out there, to the point where it's starting to be shown at theaters.

On top of all that, the movie just looks really interesting, a dark fantasy about creatures of dreams...

Joyeux Noel is a fantastic movie. Saw it in a German class a couple years ago.

Chinatown is one of my favorites. Absolutely incredible mystery/film noir film that I had to watch for a class ("SHE'S MY DAUGHTER! SHE'S MY SISTER! SHE'S MY DAUGHTER AND MY SISTER!")

Gone Baby Gone. Such a good, good movie. I definitely recommend that. Very dark, but oh so good.

Lars and the Real Girl is rather good also. It has more of a subtle humor that I never laughed at, but merely chuckled to myself. Kind of sophisticated but an extremely simple and hilarious concept.

EDIT: Oh and this german movie about a hearing girl who loves music and her Deaf family. Any of my comrades across the pond know what it is? I can't for the life of me remember its name but since I've taken german classes and I'm minoring in sign language I figured it'd be a good movie to watch again.

Kung Fu Hustle - a hilarious Chinese film.

It actually was nominated for a golden globe but it's not really the type of movie I can mention at a party and expect many people to recognize.

Shaolin Soccer - by the same writer/director/star was also really brilliant.

More people need to see foreign films!
These two films are excellent! Love them both for their off-beat weirdness and awesome Wire-fu.

OT: Run Lola Run (amazing German film), it won a lot of awards but no one I know has ever heard of it. Hmm and Banlieue 13 (District 13) was also a great foreign action movie.

Mega Shark vs Giant Octopus.

Low Budget + Bad Acting + Terrible plot + Shoddy CGI = AWESOME
I love you all for enjoying these movies. I've never met anyone else who have even heard of them.

Rocky Horror Picture show.
I swear, only one in five people have even heard of it.
But it's a classic! Ah well.

OT: Errr, can't think of any right now.........
I know, it's a shame. :(
I was thinking of tying my friends up to some chairs and forcing them to watch it sometime.
I'm pretty sure it would be in the spirit of the movie for you to do so :p

Boondock Saints. Too few people have seen that.
I agree, that film is brilliant. I saw the second one recently and was very disappointed though. Why are sequels so often awful?

I really liked Mongol. It's about Genghis Khan's life.

I also really like 'Jesus Christ: Vampire Slayer' pure gold!
I was just looking at Mongol the other day - would you recommend it?
le snip
Yes, I would highly recommend it. It cover's Genghis' early life to about his early adult hood (mid 20's or so). It's supposed to be the first in a 3 part series. It had excellent production values, and was well written. It also tied in cultural aspects of the nomadic tribes of the era. It's definitely worth your time.

I don't know about this but Little Nemo: Adventures in Slumberland is fantastic and one of my favorit movies of all time. Especially because it starts out colorful and innocent at first but it gets dark at the end.

In Bruges

*Sigh* How many times have I mentioned this movie here? 30 times? 40? Seriously, it's the greatest fucking movie that no one has ever seen. Well, okay, only five people have ever seen, but still.

It focuses on his early life and his rise to power, ending at the very very beginning of his rule.

Crank
A guy gets a drug pumped into his blood stream that causes him to die if his heartrate drops too low. Result: he goes on a day-long adrenaline rush, trying to find his 'killers' and with them a possible antidote. Keywords in this movie are fun and action.
Also known as 'Jason Statham: The Movie'.

Would the non-directors-cut version of Bladerunner count? I personally think it's at least a more coherant film and plays much harder to the Film Noir inspirations, what with the (admittedly phoned in) narration.

Also I don't think enough people saw the Hitchhiker's Guide movie, and a lot of those that did wrote it off because of the soppiness or the fact it simply wasn't the old TV version or the radio dramas. But I personally really enjoyed it

Idiocracy; thoroughly recommend it to any of you who haven't seen it. It's basically about man kind becoming less and less intelligent as years go on.

Plan Nine from Outer Space. Been voted the worst film ever made but it's so dreadful it's a joy to watch with a few friends.
It couldn't possibly be worse than this movie I saw on Space (Canadian equivalent of the Sci Fi channel) once. It was an old, well I'm guessing it was supposed to be horror, but it kinda fell flat; anyway it was simply titled 'SSSSSSSSSS', and that should give you an idea just how bad this movie was.

OT: There was movie I remember watching once as a kid, but for the life of me I can't remember what it's called. I can remember just about everything else about it, enough that I could give a Reader's Digest summery of it, but I can't remember what it's called or the character's names.

Another of my favourite childhood movies however is The NeverEnding Story. If you cannot appreciate that story, then you truly have no soul.
Oh believe me it could.

of the many abominations on the screen during that movie are:

-flying saucers on string that you can see.
-the main monster dying halfway through filming and so having to be replaced by someone who looked literally nothing like him. As a result we have him holding a cape up over his face for the rest of the film
-Cardboard headstones that the actors will frequently stumble into and knock over
-Two windows side by side showing completely different views out of them

I could go on, but if you want the whole film is up on youtube for free. I strongly recommend it.

Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. It made $8000000 less than the production cost.

Legion, Outpost, Outlander and sadly i forgot the title of the last one.

Legion i just watched recently, dunno if it fits here, but it´s an apocalypse movie featuring the Arch-angel Micheal who cut off his wings, blasting against zombies with a shitload of guns, and some survivors he passes his guns to to fight off the zombie apocalypse and finaly his buddy Gabriel...who wants to kill a certain baby.
Really, this movie made Angels awesome again. Complete with razorsharp, bulletproof metalwings.

Outpost is an awesome Action/Horror movie featuring a bunch of Mercs fighting against Nazi-ghosts...it´s really good.

Outlander is also a movie i didn´t know about but watched recently, it´s about a humanoid alien (he really is just a human with hi-tech), stranding in the 12th century Skandinavia and then gets picked up by the local viking tribe. It also has some epic monster thing that kills a bunch of guys in their village and then gets hunted for by the others.
That movie is also suptly brutal...
Suptle because while it features guys getting beheaded or slashed open or their guts ripped out, it totally fits and doesn´t feel over-the-top as in SAW...

And the last one was a flick about a future war between 3 nations (no suprise one side are brits and americans, one side is german and one side is russian), reliving WW1 style combat. But thats just the opening scene, then they get attacked by a 4th party made of mutants, and have to band together to go to their home deep in the ground and defeat them.
Sad i forgot the title, i wanted to see it again sometime.

Well; not really. Basically 500 years into the future because stupid people are more common and have more children eventually the intelligent people will be bred out. The film follows an average man from the present who finds himself in this future.
