To be honest, I've heard from other sources that this movie isn't so good.

So perhaps, instead of seeing this movie right away, you can wait until it's in the dollar theater, or wait for it to come out on video, or download it on some pirate torrent or something.

And MovieBob gets a lot of vile for expressing his opinions all the time. Still, I'm surprised this review got THIS much of a reaction.

What's going on here is that Movie Bob is probably formally trained in the profession of watching movies. Probably went to film school and all that other stuff (or at least picked up an English major somewhere). Movies like "The Blind Side" are essentially the "Twilight" of film. They're bland, have tropes for characters, and are usually boring too. Granted, it was inspirational, but really only because it followed a formula. And when films fall back on formula too much, they start to be boring for those who are professional movie watchers.

Imagine a world where every single form of entertainment gets drawn down to its most basic fundamentals, to the point where every movie is the same story with different actors, where every video game is the same with different polygons, where every book is the same with different chapters. That world would get boring as hell nice and fast. Isn't it possible that the story element of the Expendables was essentially the same as a hundred other movies but just included big actors (two of which were just cameos) in order to make it look prettier?

Edit for whomever quoted: Based on a true story does not equal real people. Just because "Blind Side" was based on a true story doesn't mean anything. There's an entire genre of literature called creative non-fiction for this very reason. Or reasons pertaining to it.

And you surprised that people took the one with every action star rather than the one with that prick Cera.

I've always hated him. Most movies he's been in have been horrible. He barely ever shows emotion, that damn voice of his drives me insane, I find his acting to be crap, and his movies are completely crap. Although I already said that last thing...

Basically, I hate him. I don't care if its cool to hate him or not, I hate him.

Well at least you have a reason, instead of the whole hating him cuz its cool.

I really dislike that about the escapist, they just pick something thats popular and hate it irrationally. And yes I know that a lot of popular things arent good but hating it isnt going to change anything.

I can't believe that people actually got offended by MovieBob's review - do people on this website really have SO LITTLE to do with their time other than sit in their rooms, stewing about how some stranger on the internet insulted an incredibly broad range of people which just happened to include them? Are some people really that pathetic? Seriously, get the fuck over it, you cry-babies.

And The Expendables was a pile of shit - I like mindless action movies when they're done right (see Crank 2, or even the A-Team), but this was not one of them... not by a long shot.

I really enjoyed the movie, no it was not top of the line action, but it was non sense action that is fun to watch. I actually plan on buying the DVD when it comes out.

I think that

A) He doesn't understand this film.
B) He's butthurt over Scott Pilgrim (which is a better film. I did like it and it was great. Just not as great as he made it out to be).
C) He was ranting, so he insulted a crapload of people because of afformentioned reasons.

So yeah, basically, his loss for not understanding what the film was about (or the mindse of people who like to be able to just turn of their minds and relax to explosions from time to time). And maybe he should learn to keep his cool in the future and prevent pissing off a lot of his audience.

Oh look... it's this thread again.

"The Critic said something mean and now I want to kill his cat", these are always entertaining.

Popcorn anyone?
Make it caramel corn and I'll bring the lawn chairs and root beer.
OT: So what? Big deal. The Expendables pissed him off. He's a critic and he has a right to express his obvious disappointment and frustrations. Let's not act like your crap in the toilet doesn't stink.

lol, I find it funny that people are so ticked over this. Pray that no one here ever listens to Spill.com reviews, cause they tend to insult people as well. Everyone's so sensitive.

Bob isn't the only person with this opinion on the movie. Check out Rotten Tomatoes and you'll see that most people share his opinion.

So basically, the movie was all hype, and didn't really deliver. Also, just because a movie critic gives a movie you like a bad review doesn't mean you have to take it seriously. The same can be said when a critic gives a good review. Movie critic reviews are to be used as a GUIDE. You read them, and based on the consensus, you decide whether or not you still want to see the film.

He's a troll at times, just watch some of his Game overthinker episodes where he says that Halo is shit and everyone who plays Halo is an idiot and how everyone who enjoys realistic games are idiots and so on.

I'm not really in to action flicks, especially ones that rely solely on star power and cameos from the Governator. That's why I didn't go to see it (that and Scott Pilgrim was out [Fuck yeah!]). Moviebob's review just reinforced the notin that I made a good decision.

These people are just mad because of Bob's "hurtful insult". You'd think with all the time they spend on internet forums and listening to Yahtzee's reviews they'd be immune to things like this.

O no a guy with an opinion made a video about it!

Does it really matter? If you want to go and see it, then go see it. Only then can you make up your own mind and stop bickering like little children.

I really wanna know how many people actually "hate (insert person/thing here) because it's cool and edgy." People fall back on that so often when people here say they hate things.

First off, people tend to use "hate" when they really mean "I don't like/care for." I'll be the first to admit that I fall into that sometimes too because "hate" just rolls off the tongue easier and I'm lazy and don't want to use more words or something stupid like that.

Second, most people don't "hate" things/people because its edgy or cool. They don't always explain/want to explain WHY they hate something, though they probably should, it would avoid this problem of "edgy and cool to hate so and so" situation entirely.

I would think that at least most people have reasons for not liking someone/something in particular for a reason...then again I work customer service and often feel like I'm on top of the world in the intelligence department compared to some people that frequent the store I work at...I guess I have some glimmer of hope left for humanity after all.

Anyway, I personally don't "hate" Michael Cera, but I don't particularly care for him either. My closest friend cares for him even less. He's really not a good actor. (Really none of the people from Superbad [the movie that launched a bunch of cruddy actors] are any good in my opinion.) Anything I've seen him in, he really lacks any sort of depth as a character/person. He was fairly tolerable in SP vs TW though, I'll admit.
